  1. Hi All,

I am planning a golf outing to the PI (Angeles) with a few (6) colleagues from around Asia for early December.

None of us have ever been to Angeles, but most have been to the PI before.

I have a few questions in relation to planning this trip:

    2. what would be a good 4* guest friendly place to stay

All hotels in Angeles vicinity are "guest friendly." The 4 Star places include ABC Hotel, Lewis Grand, and the Orchid Villa...with preference to ABC and Orchid Villa for location.

    3. what is the climate like in December?

Cool time of the year...may even need a long-sleeve shirt or light wind-breaker in the evenings. Days will be warm, however, and rainy season will be over.

    4. do you know someone there who can organise the logistics etc.?

    Swagman Travel is well known.

    5. restaurant recommendations

C's Italian, Swiss Chalet, Margarita Station for breakfast and great munchies throughout the day!

    6. is the casino any good?

    Fine for Philippines.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    No problem :)

  2. I would be pretty skeptical of trusting any bank safety deposit box or private safety box in Thailand. I mean, do you really think there is only one set of keys to the boxes? And if your box was emptied out, you can't prove anything was in there in the first place since by definition, the box's contents are confidential.

Assuming you live in Pattaya, why not invest in a home safe or better yet, keep really valuable items and papers in a box in your home country?

  3. Have seen some adverts for the New Holiday Inn, with some good offers.

I just wondered where it is actually located, say in comparison with The Hard Rock where I have stayed before?

Certainly seems like an attempt to pull in more families, has anybody had a look round yet?

It's located on the northern end of Beach Road adjacent to Amari Resort. Looks very nice...I have seen the B2000 per night room offers as well...but as just opened may have some teething issues.

  4. I get the impression it is mostly the gender benders who are involved in the druggings of punters locally. This is getting to be more like Brazil or worse everyday. I have no attraction for these types but many do, and they don't deserve this. This makes me angry. Yes, catch this murderer but what can be done to stop this from happening in future?

Well I don't get that impression...just as many girls and boys, as well as transsexuals, have been implicated in this type of thing.

As to the Brazil comparison, don't make me laugh, anybody who has been to Rio will tell you that crime in Pattaya/Thailand is minuscule compared to Rio/Brazil.

As to stopping it, when you stop horny men from taking boys and girls back to their room at 4 a.m. then maybe you will get somewhere. Until then, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Sad for the young boy but I've said many times, mongering in SE Asia is not for amateurs.

  5. Pattaya, September 24 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : On Thursday Morning Pattaya Police Officers received an urgent call to the Naklua Road close to the intersection with Soi Potisan following reports of a Korean Tourist who was walking in the center of the road and giving out his money to passing motorists. Fearing an accident, members of the public detained the man and called the Police. During this time, he collapsed and appeared to mentally break-down. For his own safety, Mr. Kim Sun Hee from South Korea who was carrying a substantial amount of Thai and Korean currency was taken to Hospital for a psychiatric assessment and Korean Embassy Officials were contacted so they could provide assistance to the man.

    What's the Thai saying...oh yeah..."farang baa!" :)

  6. A friend of mine went to Boots pharmacy yesterday and was horrified to see Shark Cartilage for sale. She contacted Boots and also posted it on Facebook.

For UK Company to do this is just outrageous. And it is their own Brand also.

The story was picked up by another blog here but there is no contact info. Also this story was told to me first hand so I hope it is ok to post it and I think that in Phuket we have an opportunity to make a small environmental difference here or at least a stand.

Thanks for this post...I posted the same info in the Pattaya sub-forum a week ago or so...not much support from the punters there, however, sadly.

  7. Hello, I'm new to the board, please be gentle :)

Does Thailand have any program for "Early Pension Retirement?"

Nope sorry. Try the Philippines or Malaysia, they both have provisions for granting long-stay visas for early retirees with means. They are most happy to have you live in their countries and spent your funds there...Thailand just gives the bird to nice people like you...TIT :D

  8. CDNinKS and dickie...thanks for the information and the contact info :)

My house is in a moobaan so I just have tanks. I believe the toilets have dedicated septic tanks and the "grey water" drains directly to city sewers. Therefore, there should be little contamination of the septic tanks except what I deposit in there.

  9. So when it's been accepted they should honour their contract.

And you're an advanced member :)

I'm sure Madoff's investment contracts promised guaranteed lifetime annual returns of 15-20%...they didn't turn out to well either! The point is no matter what any contract says, if it's too good of a deal, it's either an outright fraud (e.g., Madoff) or unsustainable (lifetime gym memberships for little money).

  10. Anyone have contact # for City Hall "honey wagon"?

How often do you need to have the holding tank drained and how does one tell it's getting full?

I've rented a house for over 2 years and never had it done yet and my toilets still flush fine :)

  11. I am always amused when people pay a rediculously low price for anything (like a "lifetime" gym membership for B19,000) and are then surprised when a few years down the road the deal is changed (one way or another) to their detriment. Businesses are not in business to loose money folks...wake-up and drink some coffee...remember what your mommy told you...if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. There is also the Thai corolary to this to never pay in advance for anything more than you can afford to loose (goes for both hard goods and services and the soft ones that are for rent, lease, or purchase in Pattaya :) ).

I never take "lifetime" memberships at any gym in Thailand. I ask what's the monthly or annual rate. On this rate (that I pay) is what I base my decision on. Never had a problem or complaint with any of the 3 gyms I have been a member of in Thailand...but I don't try to get something for nothing either.

  12. Are we to be blessed with an early winter this year? It's been noticeably cooler in the evening for the past week or so...and last night I actually had to turn off the air-con in the middle of the night for the first time this Fall. Might we be in for an early and prolonged cool season this year :)

  13. The only thing that might save it for posterity is that Chuwit has dedicated it to the Glory of God in the marker plaque.

This phrase translated into Thai reads "Glory of Money," so I have no illusions that the soapy king will one day bulldoze his beautiful little pocket-park when the price is right. I am sure he is just biding his time until the next property boom and must have made so much dosh from keeping the men of Bangkok sqeeky clean that he can afford to keep this land bank as a non-income producing park for the duration.

In any event, it is a nice place to relax for a bit and it's a shame it's closed for half the day...I mean, a few descreet words from the grounds staff would get the word out that female bench warmers are not welcome.

  14. I too wonder about that. Is there a special skill they have that the locals don't have when it comes to taking my order? :)

My only explanation is Greg = Sunbelt Asia = lots of contacts/pull @ immigration and WP office. I mean, aren't you supposed to have 4 Thais for every farang WP...it looked like to me just the reverse, 4 Filipinos for every Thai employee :D And that's not even considering the fact that WPs are only supposed to be given out for skills/knowledge that is short supply in the Kingdom and I would thinkg line cooks and wait-staff wouldn't qualify.

Maybe it's a way for Sunbelt to queitly advertise its "skills" in processing visas and WPs.

  15. Not quite sure if you are looking for a salon or barbershop but if a real barbershop, there is a nice one on Central Road just up a few doors 2nd Road. If you are standing at the intersection of 2nd and Central facing up towards Sukhumvit, it's on the right-hand side about 20-30 meters from the corner (across from the Thai fruit market area). Great cuts and price of B 100 (despite that the sign says B125).

Been going there for years...nice girls and guy cutters, clean, and aircon.

  16. I am on a little Bangkok sourgorn for a couple days and noted a couple interesting (or weird) things today in Bangkok. When I went out for my morning coffee, I grabed a copy of the Post and was going to have a leisurely read in the verdant and quiet environs of Chewit Park. However, when I get top the gates, I see that it is locked and the park closed. My first thought was that the gardner had just oversleeped or that it was just a one-off closure for some reason or another. But then I noticed a sign stating that the park is only open from 6 am-10 am and 4 pm -8 pm. Funny that...to only open the park during the mornings and evenings. My only thought was that that was wen it was coolists and most comfortable but still kinda funny to go to the bother of closing (and locking it up) during the heat of the day. I mean, if someone wants to roast outside in the afternoon heat..mai pen rai right?

The second thing that happened to me was I had my first opprotunity to try Sunrise Tacos (soi 12 branch). The food was decent but what was funny to me was all the filipino wait and kitchen staff Greg has put in there. I mean, what's the reason for that? I had fun kidding with them in Tagalog and joking that I must have missed my plane-stop and got off in Manila instead of Bangkok. I asked them how they liked Bangkok compared to Manila and the main thing to them was that the cost of living (especially food) was much less in Bangkok and of better quality. The price of a kilo of rice was much cheaper here than there they remarked.
