  1. I believe that you can't pay your electrical bill with the Kbank app or online as this only supports bill payments from MEA (Metropolitan Electrical Agency or so I think it's called) Out side Bangkok you are under PEA (Provincial Electrical Agency) and thus need to travel to a 7-11 or another counter service place to pay the bill.

I talked to Kasikorn bank about adding my electrical bill to automatic payment from my account as many house owners to that here ,but they said that it was not possible with PEA yet, and only supported the MEA payments, why it can't be paid I have no idea, but it's the last bill on my list missing as well, and I faithfully trod down to the 7-11 each month to pay this.

  2. I think it was overkill to call it Hua Hin Flooded, but one positive effect I saw was that most Bangkokians stayed in Bangkok or pestered some other town so that weekend it was a breeze to drive through town, and even finding a parking spot, so I'll say lets, promote Hua Hin as the new 24-7-365 flooded area so the streets are more passable again.

  3. I have some friends living there permanently, and it's a nice place..

It's a bit run down due to the mismanagement many years ago, which they are still trying to rectify, another thing is the condo is full of Scandinavians and female university students, which gets picked up every day to school.

Noise wise it's nice an quiet, since located back from the main road, but in nice walking distance from everything, and the soi in front of the condo has shops, restaurants (Nancy's Bistro is nice) and dodgy massage parlor where it has the sign no camera or guns allowed hehe but other than that one shop I find it very pleasant area to be in.

Rooms depends on the owner, some are cheaper than others but also more run down.

  4. Many years ago I went to a rally (4x4 moving around in difficult terrain, slinging mud at all us bystanders which we enjoyed) but one car stood out.. it was a land rover converted to have steering wheel in both sides, and pedals also of cause.

So this might be the solutions to Thailand, just add extra set of steering wheel and pedals and all problems solved, Oh I forgot the headlights also have to change, so lets just remove those and replace with on roof mounted flash light as this seems fine to many older pickups and trucks where the headlights are as bright as a burned out candle...

But it's really a stupid idea to change this RHD LHD thing, as the cost of it would mount in masses... I'm not sure how Sweden did the change but it did take a lot of years, and they did the change back in the days when there was not that many cars on the road compared to today, and specially not with the amount of cars in Thailand.

Here in little Hua Hin I see chinese cars driving around on chinese license plates, fiddling through the traffic just like the Thais, they even drive better than most in the traffic, maybe because they have to pay attention to the traffic as they can't see as well sitting on the wrong side of the car, but it might even improve many drivers skills to have to face the fact that they will be driving on the "other" side of the road in a "wrong" car.

  5. Heh a 2% deduction...

Guess they should try the police stations, Amphur's, teseban's, hospitals etc. in the next raid, that should reveal some interesting numbers, since I have seen quite some pop-up screens with "Not Genuine software" in almost all the offices I have been too.

Any way, it's good that they try to stop this for business, and many software developers have some reduced prices for the Thai market.

If you don't want to pay for the software, go opensource :)

  6. Forget the fancy car and that the young man is from a rich family...here is a human being without "values"... Ok, accidents happen. Did he stop after hitting the policeman on the motor bike? NO, he continued to drive carrying him on the windshield. He could have stopped to help him. A decent human would have done this.

Then there is this other low moral value of the family: The family then enlisted the help of local police official Lt. Col. Pannapon Nammuang to concoct a tale that somebody else – the family driver – had been at the wheel when the accident happened, according to Bangkok police. Pathetic.

I will never purchase Red Bull energy drink and encourage others to do the same.

I think he did stop at some point. True that he didnt leave the car or call for help (Not confirmed I was not there) but speeding at 200km/t it takes some time to reach a standstill, but most likely in my understanding, he would have reached a full stop, realized that the officer was seriously injured, and continued home a few soi's down the street to call his "friends" up high to make sure he was safe.

Just my opinion, no real facts or anything like that.

  7. Question. Has anyone ever seen a thai policeman given a speeding ticket to anyone? The only thing i ever see from the police is on thursday they will have a checkpoint to take money from motorbike drivers for wearing no helmet. This is money for them for the weekend.

I got a speeding ticket while driving to Korat. It was fully legal, the officer could show the measurement, and when I insisted that it was the speedo in the car that was wrong, he offered to drive past the speed trap again with me, to check if this was the case...

My bad luck was that it was not broke heheh

So yes, I have seen it, but only once in 8 years.

  8. So that means.... that all those millions of THB that was spend in sourcing a manufacture from China, signing a deal with then, and the use of all the government funds to create software for the tablets and the teachers, are now wasted? Private companies can offer their version of software, hardware and so forth?

Sounds like they are looking to get more money for the funding besides the billion+ that they already got approved? (can't remember the exact number)

  9. Stopped watching Thai TV a few years ago, heck stopped watching most TV channels, and stuck with Discovery and History Channel, at least there you don't have soap's, "Talent" shows, and news reports about all the destruction in the world, wars, global warming and all that depressing news. Oh, and most on the those two channels I do watch are mostly reruns, so no surprises there.

But on the topic of demoralizing TV programs and questionable ethics of TV channels, that is nothing new, just try and go back 15-20 years and remember what was on the TV, and what was shown in the news casts or as entertainment... no naked ladies, no up close killings of middle eastern fanatics, no shows about what you will do to get 15 mins of fame, in various tropical settings with alcoholic youths trying to survive 2 weeks without cheating on their partners while doing mindless tasks.

    Ok rant over :)

  12. Hej Emil,

If you are still looking for some hammocks I have some in stock, they are without a stand. We have some different colours and sizes, but they are part of a consignments stock, so I have no more than what's here in the showroom.

We are located on the corner of Soi 68, you will see the big red kitchen in the window, and to make it more easy, I also speak Danish :)

  13. About the condochain in cha-am, I also lived there for some time, and are frequently there still. Studios are still around 6.500 - 8.000, but for that price you can also rent one of the small houses in front of the condo, from 6.500 - 7.500, and of cause 10.000+ for the bigger houses. They also rent these out daily to monthly and 99% of then are furnished.

For the laundry there is one right next to the Rich hotel, so it's a 5 min walk from the beach to get there. There are two restaurants Tik's Place and Lilawadee, that serves food from morning (Tik's place) and has Thai, European, Japanese food. Tik's place also rents out motorcycles, if that should be needed.

  14. I find OpenOffice somewhat complicated as well, but that is mainly since I have gotten used to Microsoft version.. It still takes me a bit longer than normal to perform the task, but I'm getting there.. Between OpenOffice and Scribus plus Gimp I'm managing to do most tasks.

My printer is the cheapest you can get on the market, and funny enough that one worked straight out of the box...

Oh and I'm using Linux Mint which is built from Ubuntu

  15. I have been using the E cigarette on and off, due to the difference in using this product compared to a normal cigarette.

I tried the version that looks like a long cylinder with manual button, this is still the best replacement all around today I have found, since I also tried the automatic version looking like a cigarette, but this has a cut off so as you best sit there and puffing along, it shuts off and you have to wait 60 sec for it to be used again.

I then tried a E-Pipe, which I must say is the closest thing I got to real smoking, with the amount of vapor is creates and the flavor.. but it's not handy to carry around, it's a real life size pipe with a battery instead of tobacco.

I pick some up here in Thailand and the rest I got from China, but as far as I know it's currently illegal in Thailand to sell or posses a E-cig.. mostly since the health minister or some like that is also the single producer of nicotine chewing gum...

Any way, I like then and once I find a model that fits my smoking need I'm sure that I will quit.

Last time I smoked it for a longer time period, I get better airflow in my lungs, I got my sense of smell back (not always pleasant with open sewers in Bangkok) I could smell a dirty ashtray 2km away (We smokers really stink!!)

But with the problem of nice design / battery life, I'm still hunting the perfect one.

  16. Perfect Smile Dental Clinic By Dr.Supansa

Located opposite side with Hua Hin Wittayalai School. Near Hua Hin Market Village.

They have special promotion until June 2010.

    Ultrasonic Cleaning only 399 Baht.

Did you have it (ultrasonic cleaning) done and if so do your teeth feel as clean as after a traditional cleaning? I've never tried it.

I got the ultrasonic made at a few clinics here in HH, and it's faster more "clean" than the traditional way, but if you have sensitive teeth's then it can be a pain, I have some problems with thin coating on my front teeth's and that felt like striking a nerve, but other than that I can recommend it.

  17. Hi,

i'm not a specialist in Thai culture or anything like that, but from what you write, it seems like there are more to the problem that meets the eye.

First of all, by Thai law, they have to submit the leave form, and this have to be noted by the HR responsible person, failure to do this should result in a written warning letter, do this twice you can kick them out and as far as I know they can't claim compensation pay etc, since they are not fulfilling their jobs.

I don't know what kind of business you run, but always remember to have contracts on the employees, you can get into deep problems if not, since they can sue your ass off through the labor department, and if you are the owner of the company, you will have the same rights as always in this country... Pay tax and be happy, but not much more.

For the underlying problems, if it's as you state that all Managers, etc are leaving without notice, it's very possible that one of these senior managers are the culprit and encouraging the other staff just to leave as they please.

  18. Is there anywhere you can actually find the traffic laws/rules in Thailand in English?

With all these questions it would be nice to be able to read it somewhere, and so prevent that you do something like putting 10 people in the back of the pick up if that's illegal also?

    Michael

  19. if you want less farangy try Cha-am, close to Hua hin shopping and restaurants, etc but has a real thai town feel.

farangs in HH are very different to everywhere else i've been in Thailand, much older and more farang couples. its like Florida basically.

I use to explain to people back home that HH is the Thai answer for Florida :) Old folks, quiet on the main street at 11PM and so on.
