  1. Good evening gentelmen, I am looking to sell about 8 rai of old rubber trees. My wife is in Thailand and she is getting offers from 11k baht/ rai, to 14.5k baht/rai. Is this in the ballpark? Has anyone else sold old trees lately. They are aprox. 20-30 ft. high which has bearing on the amount of lumber that is recovered. Our land is in the Buriram area. Thnx for the input, Be well.

  2. I know next month will be the hottest month, real summer. This absolutely is at odds. Many phenomenons have been around since the new year. A research found that the day is shorter by 1.8 millionths of a second, and the Earth's axis shifted by 17 centimeters (6.5 inches). The earth quake in Japan is one of the 5th largest since 1900.

Did you know that Japan, the whole island, shifted 12 feet, after this quake?

  3. Al Gore will probably try to say it's " climate change" caused by our SUV's!

    Right on Miami Bob!

Mr. Gore and his cartel of elites, who produced the movie on global warming called An Inconvenient Truth, would probably tell you that all of this cold weather is being caused by global warming. Yes, Mr. Gore and his friends spent a few million dollars to convince you that cold weather really means hot weather

What Mr. Gore did not tell you in his film is that he and his friends own very lucrative companies that deal in the marketing of Carbon Credits, and that they stand to make billions of dollars if they can convince you to support your government's plans to pass legislation to limit carbon emissions and to legally mandate the global, international trading of Carbon Credits. Hummm. That was just a small, inconvenient truth that was left out of the movie. Darn! :whistling:

So everyone! Open up those beautiful minds of yours and connect the dots... and enjoy this wonderful cool weather we are experiencing in the middle of the hot season. 'Tis just a small proclivity of Mother Nature for your enjoyment.

"Gee Whiz! Thanks Mother Nature!!!" :)

Very interesting, my friend. Can you tell me where you found out this info on Gore or is it hearsay? I would like to do more research on this putz Gore, but before I condem i would like to know where the facts are obtained. Thnx 4 your input

  4. Hello,

I myself live near Ubon and have 40 Rai of Rubber trees and looking for more. the price of Latex is ever rising especially as the price and demand for oil rises. I think latex is a profitable business. We plant 100 trees per rai, prunned down to about 80 by the 7th year. The market is about 150 baht a month per tree. inital investment seems large since its a 7 year wait before production but we are starting to see the benefits. We rely only on the rainy season for water, no other atering and we seem to be doing okay the trees are very rezealant and doing well. A little labor intense but its helping out the family alot. I really cannot see the over saturization of this market with oil supplies running out and demand going up.

Being a non farmer I can only accept what you say as you are the one involved in rubber, however I am having difficulty getting my head round the above figures, may well be I am reading them wrongly.

    80 x 150 x 12 x 40, or 80 trees per rai x 150 baht per month x 12 months of the year x 40 rai, this equals 5,760,000 baht per year.

Is my simple arithmetic correct or am I missing something here?

Last year the wife and I were looking at property in the Tha Mai area of Chanthaburi, land with rubber trees on was being sold for 300 000 baht per rai, so a 30 rai farm was being sold for 9 million baht, I have no idea of the age of these trees, however this sounds too good to be true.

Whats the life of a rubber tree after the initial 7 year wait?

Dude you might be missing alot. Depending on a few more variables. You cannot tap in the rain as it will screw up the latex and waste your time and your tree. you cannot cut in the cool season as the tree changes its leaves yo9u cannot cut at this time. it needs to mend and does not produce as well. try not to hurt your trees. this year brought alot of rain wich cut production and profits. It is agriculture and we are at the whim of Mamma Nature. It was a great year for rice I am told. But these figures you are putting together are not constant.

  5. here we go again.

Obviously the air force is in need of a little cash injection.

the airforce ran a pretty tight ship as I understand at DM (comparatively).

In anycase, it seems a shame to let such a piece of infrastructure lie idle. Costs are largely sunk. Definitely could be a LCC hub if someone put their mind to it. We'd just have to loosen the grip on THAI's influence within government on these things.

is it possible to catch a flight from D.M. to Buri Ram. If not any ideas on how. or is there a faster way than the back roads and 5 hours of driving

  6. How pathetic that these retards use the most cowardly of all tactics to terrorise their fellow Thais and murder anyone within a yard of their stupidity.

Stupidity is of course the trademark of the Red Shirt Movement, their leader, the craven Shinawatra reptile, the stupidist and most cowardly of them all.

This most recently banal of threats undeniably bears the Shinawatra trademark.

    Take the reptile out.

    NOW!

    Is "stupidist" an actual word?

  7. Piles more pressure on the GBP and USD.

The THB was already down below 50 on the GBP before this announcement after its brief summer rally. More THB strength to come I fear.

Considering the rise in the Baht the past week or so, I would think this move was anticipated.

There have been a number of positive comments about the economy, SE Asia's generally and Thailand's specifically, including those recently by Dr. Mark Mobius from Templeton Funds, so the inflow of funds for investment continues.

These things tend to be cyclical in any event. Tourism and export dependent economies lose their competitive advantage if their curriencies become too expensive. China and Japan may turn increasingly to domestic consumption, but Thailand is limited in that regard.

So It sounds you know your business. Respect. But in normal words you expect the dollar, euro and others gettings less worth this year or not?

I think 45 baht for a euro is reasonable for expats here. otherwise life is not as cheap anymore here..

Now would be a good time to buy thai bht and sell later in the year or spring next year when the dollar and euro start economies start to turn around

  8. Hi guys, I am an electrician by trade. Waters edge seems to be very knowedgable in this field. Can someone explain to me why nobody talks about raising a water tank about 2 stories or what ever height is good to supply enough water pressure. It eliminates pipe leaks on the suction side of the pump and the pump only works when the water level drops in the tank. It is still a functioning system here in NYC, USA. as it has been for a very long time. Keep the tank near the supply well and run feed lines out to where you need. I a planing to live in Thailand in about 5 yrs and am planning to do this on my land. Is this not the way to go? What am I missing?

  9. Generalities have to be defined

Are you talking about the two wheel handle bar tractor?

    Nickname Iron Buffalo?

To be exactly specific according to my experience...

    Kubota NC-131 tractor body

    with RT-140 Diesel Engine?

Is it for Thailand use or for export?

    How many?

Tractor, two sets of tires, implements and trailer about 90,000 baht. Same unit in 2006 60,000 baht. This is Surin price. Chiang Mai same unit 105,000 baht.

My wife says about 50-60k bht used, around Ban Kruat

  10. Are these called "lo-tie" in Thai

  11. wow, thats a pretty dumb thing to say. The U.S. banks were given LOANS. They were not just given money. WE the people loaned them money with a high interest rate. WE the people made money from the money we the people loaned the banks. The present U.S. Gov't is doing what they want with it like creating gov't jobs for friends of theirs. Not putting it to good use like giving us tax breaks or letting us choose our own health insurance co. from another state. Sounds like there is alot of jelousy about other peoplse money here as is in the U.S.

    [nosize=3][nobold]

"the special graft court" ha ha ha yeah right !!!!!!!!!!! I wonder how they and their jealous friends will divide it amongst themselves. He floated the company on the stock market nimrod, he didn't have to pay taxes. [/nobold][/nosize] As usual, the eggheads didn't act fast enough therefore enabling the company in Singapore to buy it all. Look it up.

    K. Thaksin seems to have used a loophole in Thai law in order to avoid paying taxes. It's not clear (to me) whether it was really him, his proxies, his children or his 'Amply Rich' offshore company. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't matter much. As Prime Minister he should be an example to all and a GOOD, HONEST, LAW-ABIDING example at that. He started his PM-ship with an NCCC case which ending in a very controversial 'not guilty, really he made an honest mistake'.

As for the confiscated 46+ BBaht, it will be dumped in the treasury and probably be used to reduce the overall budget shortfall.

Right on. He should have plug the hole and not using it himself. If he paid the tax and amend the law, he would still be prime minister today. It just plain wrong to gain that much money without paying tax.

Probably similar to top US executives taking large sum of bonuses while their companies are asking for governments' bailout. Not against the law but just plain wrong.

  12. Sorry! but what is an IPhone? I have seen them advertised but are they different from an ordinary mobile with GPRS

  13. All the power to him, I say.

I support the red shirts' cause, though I wish they'd chosen a better mascot than Thaksin. Where do all you foreigners get your information from as to what the red shirts are about vs. what the yellow shirts are about? The media? The English-print media in Thailand hates Thaksin and the red shirts, so you're naturally going to see the yellow shirts' press releases being re-printed as news. Pick up a copy of Truth for Today or something and read one of the articles in English in the back -- you might be surprised to find what they are saying.

I see and hear a lot of comments from foreigners who don't really know what the red shirts are angry about. Your problem is that many of you don't speak Thai well, don't read or write Thai, and the Thais who can speak English are mostly yellow shirts. The red shirts aren't as educated and don't speak English as well, so you're not hearing their side accurately because it's being filtered to you through the intellectual elite and their agenda. You get to hear what the red shirts are about from their enemies. So many foreigners support the yellow shirts not fully realizing that the yellow shirts are majorly xenophobic while the red shirts welcome international influence and development.

The yellow shirts are the old rule aristocracy, an outdated form of rule based on class elitism. They do not represent the best for all of Thailand, but for a sector of Thailand. They are the educated elite who would like to keep the classes separate. They are the party who suggested giving more weight to votes from people registered in Bangkok than people living in rural areas, simply on the basis that they feel they are more educated and therefore more qualified to run the country. These people are often as white as white gets because they haven't worked a day in their life, they don't know what manual labor is, can't even appreciate it. It is these types who have Burmese maids living in the backs of their homes without even the slightest tinge of guilt. They actually think they're being generous to their house slaves. But it is the same policies of the yellow shirts which has made visas and work permits and foreigners being in Thailand such a nuisance and a hassle. It is their fear of "losing their country" to outsiders through economic means (not political) that fuels their decisions.

There has been a 60-year campaign to unite people over nationalistic pride even when they don't see eye-to-eye politically, but unfortunately what have been propagated as national values for all Thais are often veiled agendas aimed at pushing the aristocratic elite's xenophobic policies. Self-sufficiency economy is a way of saying let's retain economic control of our country by limiting outside influence. And don't forget it was the yellow shirts -- peaceful or not -- who shut down the airports. That should tell you something about how they view the international community and its role in Thailand. They don't much care for the foreigners in their country--they don't appreciate them, they don't want them. They tolerate them because they want their money, but they want to completely control it so that the foreigners become financial cashcows while Thais direct the money flow.

Red shirts are angry for a very good reason. Their country is not a democracy and has not been for at least four years. Democracy is the great equalizer to the lower classes, to the poor, to the underprivileged and uneducated -- it gives them a voice for change in their direction. Whether Thaksin was a bad guy or not is a moot point. There should have been due process -- all of the investigations which have come up after the coup should have been done through proper channels to oust him legally. The coup leaders have eroded their own legal and political system, and their political tactics have more to do with the cult of personality than with infrastructure, systems or laws. I say go Red shirts. Get your country back, get your democracy back, get your hope and your freedom back, get your opportunity back.

Thank you, Howard, for this post. I am new to Thailand and its situation. I do not know which side is right or wrong, but have not found much info from the red shirt point of view. At least now I have a point of view from what seems to be a professional, CALM source. Just as in the USA, it is hard to get the facts w/o personal opinion and emotional yelling and screaming. I would like to hear more from the yellow shirt side in the same way so as to make an intelligent decision as opposed to an emotional one on this important subject. If others out there can give direction as to how this can be accomplished, then maybe we can all come up with an intelligent plan to settle this problem.

  14. Ha, if it were not for PAD's protest I would not have found or joined this forum, or had such a grand week long full expense paid vacation at a nice 5-star hotel, compliments Thai Airways. I also understand this was not the case for many travelers that week. But what I noticed the most was that most tourists/business people that come from a "democratic" country, is how intolerant they are were when faced with democracy in action. I guess freedom is only for those that already have it, and for those that do, they can't be inconvenienced when others want it. Just my opinion:)

Right on my man! I am laughing at all the replies crying sue sue sue, punish, punish punish. People fighting for their rights and everyone else is looking at the inconvience. Seems like the fight has gone from many people of this world. It is a shame. Now the most people will do is cry about suing some-one or only complain about their government and not try to change it for the better. These people are fighting for their beliefs. War is hel_l! deal with it and stop crying. Try to see the other side of things, not just your way. it is the only way to get change going.

  15. Hi RJ, other than buying new pump, you can try to reduce the size of the pipe that feeds your sprinkler, to create a little bit more presure. Also, you can raise your water tank to about the height of your roof on your house. Gravity will produce good water presure as is done here in New York City. You use your existing pump to fill the tank when the water gets down to a certain level. I do not know the cost of this work compared to the price of a new higher presure pump. You will have to do some home work and figure this out. I am interseted in this cost as I will be building a house in the Buriram area and I am considering a raised tank so as not to use the pump every time I turn on the water. I look forward to hearing from you.

  16. Hey Farmme, I would first like to say that you are a bright person for asking for help. That is a sign of success. Gathering information is key for making the best decision. No matter which career path you choose, gaining a business management degree will help you greatly. It can be put to use in any career choice. Many people are good at a certain trade: farming, masonry, agriculture, but will fail at their business due to a lack of knowledge of how to run a business successfully. It will teach you dicipline and how to wisely handle your money and time. Time managment is very important to a successful busness. I did not have a chance to check out those web sights yet but i will try to in future. I do not know how soon you must make a decision but do not rush. Continue to gather info and you will do well. Take the time and think through your options and continue to ask questions of others. But always consider from whom you are getting info from. This gives you the opportunity to disregard info from less knowlegable people so you can make a clear desicion. You will do well. No luck needed, just informed decisions. :)

  17. I went to a agency last july. Seemed legit. U.K. man runs it. Thai proffesionals.com The girls there were asking anywhere from 30k to 200k. This is a barganing situation. Offer much less and see where it gets you. Don't think with your heart as you will be dissapointed. Your girl might be true but she might not be also. I went back to thailand 5 times for the same girl before I made a commitment. Are her siblings drunks or are they hard workers with families of their own. You must do your homework just like any partnership. Sound like u r moving to fast, my friend. Slow down, take a breath and stop thinking with your loins. If U cannot negotiate this with her family then walk. There are many, beutifull, GOOD thai women around. Don't fall for tears. and learn the language. Maybe Get her to your country first. It is a long process but it will give urself time to get to know her and u can stop the process anytime. Tjhe $ loss will b less than a house and car and gold and dowery and this and that and heartach. Giving money to a family that is poor while taking away from them someone who helps support them is not a bad thing to do. But if they are non-negociable then they may need to learn a lesson. Man up and walk if youcannot negotiate down alot. House needs to b in ur name, land can be in your name also but it is a process. Rent, RENT< RENT< RENT. then see where it goes. Fools rush in.

  18. I like that orange one, third from left. Barry, just out of curiosity....how much these sell for?

hot rod are trying to sell that bike for about 2 years now ,they were looking around 2 million baht for it............theyre is some serious hand engraving on this bike if you look closely...i was there in pattaya when he (ed hotrod) was loading it into his pick up to bring down to phuket bike week in april last year.

How come he didn't ride it????????????????? Like you said guys do? :)

  19. :) any new users got anything to add here

    well :D

Dude, when u put yourself out there ya gotta be ready for tough words to come back. I am hard core Harley, but have learned to see the craftsmanship put into machines. Your bike is not my style but I can see the time and effort into it and admire it. Fast is not always the best thing but it sure helps when running from the cops.

  20. Can someone explain to me the purpose of extended forks? Is it only style or does it serve a function?

Extreme art to impress the naive and ignorant. Same w/ ape hangers. I recall that Peter Fonda had no feeling left in his arms after a day of filming Easy Rider.

    What a waste.

    U ride a Ninja, don't ya? :)
