No luck at the shop near Chiang Mai Gate. They had several brands of blades, but no razors.
-
Even the plastic shitty double edge razor from Tesco shaves better than my Gillette Mach Something. I can't wait to get my hands on a proper one.
-
Wow, that was fast!
Thanks, will check it out tomorrow.

Hi.
Has anyone seen double edge razors for sale anywhere? Not the cheap, plastic Gillette one for 40 thb at Tesco, but a proper metal one. Like this:

Thanks in advance.

I just came back from Vientiane a week ago. I got a double entry, no problem. I had four previous tourist visas in my passport, but they are not all in a row.
Three months ago I was in PP, but also only got a single entry.

It's hit or miss I've found. The ones where they have you in little rooms off to the side, do. The ones where the bunks are lined up along the walls, don't.
So, the first class cabins do, but the second class don't.
No, there are 2nd class ones that have little rooms (well, no doors or anything, but it's like a four person cabin with a wall missing).

I just had lunch at Gypsy's.
Even with the limited menu, I had a problem choosing. Ended up having a cheeseburger with fried potatos, which was brilliant. Perhaps the best I've had in CM. The owner asked us how we like our beef, and the result was a perfect medium, just as ordered.
Nobody was drunk, everyone was charming, and I even spoke a little German. Will go again.

With the information you guys have provided I'm leaning toward getting a Yamaha Spark 135i for now.
Do also consider the Honda PCX, which also falls into that category. I got one three months ago, and I am really impressed by it. I have done 4 000 km in the time I've had it, and it's been up Doi Inthanon, Doi Suthep, and around the Samoeng loop more times than I can remember.
Obviosly it's not as fast as the 250's, but it can cruise at over 90 km/h (GPS, not speedo speed) all day. Solid even at top speed, and nice around town. Big storage space under the seat.
I've never ridden the Spark, so I can't compare the two, but I'm really happy with my purchase. I ride a modern Vespa 250 in Finland, and in many regards the PCX is better. But don't tell any of my vespist friends I said that.

Moto is stay left go slow and pray alot ....Oh yea and always wear a helmet ....
I do the opposite. Like riding a bike in a city - take your place, be assertive and be seen. Then just expect everybody else to be blind and out to kill you.

Waders
in Chiang Mai
Yes! I just saw some at the GMS Fair at Airport Plaza. I didn't look at the pricetags, though.

Oh, wow, a food thread.
I find the best crispy thin crust lately at Pizza Company, Central Kad Kaew. Personal pan, eye-talian sausage. Go figure.
Ordered one of Pizza Co's new Italian sausage pizza during the promotion. It was better than their regular pizzas. Mot much available for home delivery where we live other than Pizza Co. Now I'm hungary thinking about pizza.
Why don't you Czech the fridge?
Yes, recycling old jokes. Sorry.

Is sex the single most important agenda in most man's head?...Oop, just curious...and don't bang me now!
According to Thai Visa it comes third after Pizza and Fish & Chips.
Has the best hamburger in CM really dropped to fourth place?! You horny bastards!

I'll chime in with a couple of recent shots.
At the track:
A Honda ad:
Blurry bushes and only slightly more sharp motorcyclists:

Are you on a tourist visa? Your present license will be fine. O visa, Thai license. Insurance……Don't trust the rental!!!! Do some homework. Rent or buy, up to you…I would rent, agree long term rent, pay monthly. Last thing….Don't trust that smile in the bike shop…….DO YOUR HOMEWORK……….As you yanks say 'Bone-up' and enjoy!
Yes, please do some homework. Your visa has nothing to do with what license you need. Just because people haven't been asked for their license doesn't mean that you don't need one. I got my Thai license, because by law I need either that or an international license in addition to my Finnish MC license. The international license being just a translation of the Finnish EU-license. The rules vary from country to country, so look into it.
My reasoning is that if I'm ever in any kind of trouble, at least I can't be blamed for not having the proper license.
Also a Thai drivers license gets you into national parks and such for the same price as the locals. Mine paid for itself within a couple of months.
EDIT: And getting the Thai license is really, really easy. It takes half a day and the most expensive part of it is the certificate of residence, which costs 500 baht.

there's a new place with tournament size and quality table at srimanglachan rd. soi 7, just before the small hill that goes to the back of kad suan kaew.
oh, but that is also a bar. Spin is the name if i remember correctly.
Yes, the table is an Asian Brunswick copy outfitted with Brunswick rails IIRC, so it is very good. We went before it was officially open, but were treated very nicely by the Indian owner (challenge him to a game if you dare). They are also going to have sandwiches, pizzas and possibly other food.
Go check it out if you like pool for the pool part.
EDIT: Go really slow when looking for it. Blink and you'll miss it. It's on the north side of the soi.

I just bought a 20" Samsung in the big shop on the third floor of Airport Plaza (IT City?) They had the non-full-HD version on a little sale for 3150 baht, which I thought was reasonable. So far I'm very happy with my purchase.

Fashion King sounds good. Can you please tell me where it is and give me a guide to the price for trousers and shirts.
And the prices vary with your materials. I paid 1 500 for my nice cotton shirts.

Oh, sorry, forgot to mention that. He's in the Kalare building at the Night Market.
Here's a map and everything from their homepage.

I've had shirts done by Neramit and Fashion King, and the Neramit ones are OK, but the Fashion King ones are fantastic. As are the waistcoat and shorts I had made there.
I haven't had a suit made there, but that's where I'm going for some more shirts next week, and that's where I'd get a suit.
Also Frank is a really pleasant guy to do business with. I knew I was far from the swindlers in Phuket and similar places when he wouldn't take the full deposit, because it was pretty much all the cash I had on me. "Here, take 500 baht back."

I bought my replacement seat at the Honda dealer on Hau Keaw just passed The Pub.
B2000 for the 'Bucket' type seat, took them half and hour to fit.
john
Wouldn't a bucket type seat further restrict your seating position options? Or is it just a lot comfier? I'd like to be able to move back and forth a little on long rides.

Coming along the moat area before Thapae Gate you will see Mike's Burgers. If you take the left turn between there & Riva on the other corner then follow that road until it starts to bend left there's a small shop on the right that has everything you could want for your PCX.
You will see the shop that sells helmets a short distance before it on the same side.
Thanks, will check it out.

"(who doesn't want a noisier exhaust)? "
Emotionally well-adjusted grownups.
That's what I thought, thanks for confirming that I need one.

Does anyone know of a shop or shops that has replacement seats for the Honda PCX and possibly other mod parts as well (who doesn't want a noisier exhaust)?

I don't know anything about the new wave, but I've done a few bike-trips to the border on a 400cc bike, and would discourage doing
it on a small scooter-like bike; far too dangerous imo, even for an experienced rider. Taking the bus is comfortable, cheap, and fast.
Really? I've done the trip a couple of times, and to me the roads are just normal roads. If you ride a scooter here, I don't see why going to Mae Sai would be any more dangerous than wherever it is you're riding normally.
Doing it in one day is pretty tough, though, so spending the night in Mae Sai or Chiang Rai is a good plan.
Where To Buy: Double Edge Safety Razor

This is what I would have done (and probably will do in the summer if I don't find another way) in Finland, but here I'm too worried that the package will be lost. Is that an unjustified fear?
