I am aware you need to declare any amount of money over a certain amount (like 5k?)
Well if I go to heathrow, turn up to the desk to declare 30k, Ive been unemployed for 3-4 years, no assets, is there any reason why I should not be allowed through with it? granted, 30k is alot of money, but its not a huge amount, its just quite a big lump for a young guy who dosnt have a "sound reason" for having it.
What is likely to happen in this circumstance?
*my friend accumulated this money 100% legally.
Secondly, Can any foreigner (uk citizen in this case) open up a Thai bank account in thailand, same type as you would get in the uk. And deposit this amount of cash into the bank, online (ie open it up in thailand, then deposit the funds via my online banking from my uk account?)
thanks in advance

Hi guys, I'm after some urgent advice.
I intend to save up 30k then go to thailand, so far I have around half that.
The problem is I am "signing on" jobseekers allowance, but have 15k in my bank which I've made through selling something very much in demand on ebay at great prices. and its going up week on week, il have 30 by the end of 2 months.
Now I am scared at somepoint the bank will flag this up, as im signing on, and the police will freeze my accounts.
Where could I take out the money I have in their, and transfer it safely? I cant just put that amount of money of cash in a friends or family account, as its an abnormal amount. What would be a safer thing
I couldnt open a thai bank account in the uk, as i already phoned them, (the thai bank located in london) and they said i can only open one up in person in thailand.
Where can i stash this amount of money, to make sure its not frozen by the police?
cheers

hey, is there any thai banks who would allow me to open up a thai bank account from the UK and transfer several thousand pounds into it? I would then use the account when i come to SE asia in a month or 2. The reason I am looking into this is because to fund my trip I am selling a "research chemical" online, which is in a legal grey area in the UK and I would rather open another bank account and transfer the money into it so the one I'm using for my business dosnt have loads of funds in it.
I would imagine i would have to pay a fee as a foreigner, wouldnt want it to be any more than a couple hundred quid.
anyone got any knowledge about this type of thing?
cheers

Hey thai visa'ists, I'm intending to be in thailand well before christmas, though there is no date set, its likely to be between 1 - 2 months.
I plan to go with a budget of between 10 and 20k £
The questions are as follows
A: Living in very cheap accomodation, but above the bottom tier, as economic as possible but with a bit more quality than the really bottom end of guesthouse, what price is that IN the cities/tourist areas, OUTSIDE the citys/tourist areas
B: for 3-4 meals a day at roadside kitchens/cheap eateries/thai equivalent of a dhaba, what cost per day?
C: What is the price of a litre of petrol in Thailand? are motorbike mechanics alot cheaper than UK?
D: How much should a backpacker living economy, but not economy+ be budgeting roughly per month IN touristy/city areas and in RURAL non touristy areas
E: Is there fly fishing opportunities in Thailand? Sea fishing?
F: Can you ask hot bargirls for sex for a fee?
thats about it. ive got 8k so far, am aiming for 20k spending money, or a figure of roughly that amount
thanks to anyone who can be bothered replying
