  1. I appear to have ruffled some feathers but not Thanking everyone again who have posted replies to my request for help. If I have offended anyone, my apologies, I am indeed very grateful for anyone taking the time to help me.

    My Sincere Thanks to all

  2. Hi, I placed another thread the other day asking for help with a translation and someone helped for which I am very grateful. I realise this forum isn't here to provide translations so I hope the administrator and other forum members will allow me just one more request and I promise this is the last.

So, could anyone help and translate the small conversation below. I tried with Google and they give the English words but probably loose the actual meaning.

It's between two female friends if that changes the meaning at all, I'll just call them "S" and "K".

If anyone can do this a big thanks and apologies to anyone I upset by asking for this help.

  3. Good Morning, just wanted to ask if anyone else is using this paid for service successfully at the moment. I ask because my wife has been using this service for a couple of years with no problems and generally it proved excellent. But a few days ago it just stopped working, she can sign into her account ok, select the tv movie as usual and a movie player window opens but that;s as far as she gets. There's no buffering of the movie, nothing. A couple of friends also use the service and they've got exactly the same problem. Now internet and pc work is my business so I've gone through all the things that I can think of but no luck. We've tried calling Thaitv customer service and either get told someone will call us back but it never happens and I've sent a couple of emails both in English and Thai complaining but no one responds, so their customer support stinks.

So, my question after all that ranting is, do you also use this service and is it working for you or are you aware of any problems?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

  5. I found some threads in the forum about renewing a Thai license but they didn't answer my question so I hope someone can help.

My Thai wife passed her test and obtained her 1 year Thai driving license in 2006. We subsequently returned to Europe and as we're not planning to return to Thailand until later this year I wanted to know if she could still take her expired 1yr license and request a 5 year license without having to take the tests again.

We had originally planned to return to Tailand in 2007 to allow her to get her 5 year license but unfortunately life and finances got in the way.

Although there are a few answers around they mostly concern recently expired licenses besides which there are probably different rules between an expired 1 year and and an expired 5 year license.

Anyone can help with some advise would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

  6. I must say.... I was diagnosed with eczema at the age of 2 and suffered all my life into my late 30's.

The worst time was in tropical heat. After a particularly horrific and stressful period, I took control of my own health and listened to the doctors no more. Through my own studies, I deducted that I had a severe gluten intolerance and cut wheat products out of my life forever.

No more eczema, no more misery! I'm free! :o

I also have been diagnosed with eczema (in the last 3 years -- I'm 55) and use steroid cream to go after the outbursts. While I was in Thailand, the symptoms were reduced, but returned viciously when I came back to a cold climate. I do want to try the Prickly Heat treatment mentioned earlier, but this is the first time I have seen a connection with gluten intolerance. Are you sure you did not have Dermatitis Herpetiformis, which is certainly connected with a gluten intolerance?

I'm also suffering from this dreaded irritation. I've been using steriod cream as well but want to stop using it since it thin you skin. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF NATURAL CURES OR A GOOD DOCTOR IN THAILAND WHICH SPECIALIZED IN THIS FIELD?. I would like to go see him/her during my month long vacation in April

Hi again and thanks to everyone so far for your comments which are most welcome.

I thought I would add a little background information for anyone that's interested as we are lucky in that our son now only has a few traces of redness as opposed to a year ago when he was a mess.

My wife is Thai and I’m English so there’s a mixed gene pool involved in our son, although to look at him there are only a few Thai characteristics. We believe the problem originated when we stopped breast feeling too early. We had waited the minimum time before switch to bottle feeds and I blame myself for not having read enough before the decision was made to stop. Although it’s easy with hind sight to draw such conclusions as there’s no guarantee that continued breast feeling would have avoided the problems.

The diagnosis for our son was an allergy to Cow's milk which is very common here in Europe and the eczema and food allergies were in his case the symptoms. I also heard that there was a higher incidence for babies where one parent was asian to have allergic reactions to cow’s milk. As a result he was switched to a special baby milk called Nutramigen which doesn't cause the allergic reaction and given a low dosage steroid cream.

Initially the creams worked but that was short lived. I wasn’t happy using the cream because as you’ll be aware steroids are not the healthiest things around but they were low dosage and they gave our son some relief. But after a few weeks things weren’t getting better because 24 hrs after using the cream the skin was just as bad again. We've tried a number of oils, creams, soaps etc from the internet but nothing worked well or after initial improvement went back to bad again. So we felt helpless and could only console ourselves that people kept on saying he would in time he would probably grow out of it.

Then out of the blue came a personal recommendation that we try to get an appointment with a doctor here in the Netherlands who is a GP but after many years being disappointed with the results regular medicine had to offer started to offer an alternative therapy known as bioresonance. When you see this in action your mind is telling you it can't possibly work as it just looks "hocus pocus" but I had done some research on the internet and it found some interesting evidence in its favour, so we started getting treatment for our son. Normally you had to wait some considerable time to get an appointment but he gave priority to babies and children so we were lucky. It's interesting to note that this doctor is always busy, he works a long day into early evening, his surgery is always full and everything we heard from other people was positive.

His tests confirmed the milk allergy and a laboratory test also revealed a condition known as "leaky gut syndrome" which means minute food particles find their way into the blood stream from the large intestine causing the allergic reaction eczema. He confirmed that the switch to the Nutramigen was the correct one and started bioresonance treatments for the milk allergy. Additionally he prescribed the additional of a probiotic to our sons daily morning feed which contains live bacteria to assist the large intestine to suppress and eventually reverse the "leaky gut" condition.

Our son received this bioresonance treatment initially for the milk allergy and since then for several other foods which he unfortunately reacts to. We located a very good natural cream from the UK which we could use and from that moment we never used the steroid creams again. In a year we've gone from a baby in a very bad condition who needed constant attention to stop his scratching, who had to be strapped to the bed at night time and many sleepless nights to an almost normal skin and a happy 14 month old.

We cannot claim that the bioresonance treatments, the probiotics or the cream are a total solution. Our son still has an allergic reaction to a lot of foods but they are usually a mild reaction without irritation and go away after a day or so by removing that food from the diet. We cannot say for sure that he wouldn’t have gotten better anyway we just know that for us this solution worked.

Before all this happened I had no idea eczema was so widespread and how miserable it can make lives. Our son was bad but if I read some cases on the internet he was lucky as some sufferers go through a daily hel_l.

Sorry this was such a long post, I hope it hasn’t bored everyone and good luck to anyone trying to beat this miserable condition.

  7. Hello,

I'm due to come to LOS in February and will spend a little time with the family just outside the city of Surat Thani and then on to Koh Samui. Although a few hotels have high speed access (for a hefty price) I was thinking about using GPRS just for emails.

Does anyone know the state of GPRS in and around the city of Surat Thani or on the island of Koh Samui? Plus if GPRS is available which netwrok is the most reliable AIS or DTAC in these two areas?

I had also looked at the alternatives of EDGE or 3G but from reading other posts it seems I would be unlucky outside of Bangkok to get anything other than basic GPRS.

    Hope someone can help.

    Thanks to all

  8. Hi there, we're planning on a long vacation in Thailand starting February with our 14 month old son. However we have one real concern in that he has had bad eczema which has now subsided to a greater extent but we're worried about the elevated temperatures and humididty and how it will affect him.

Can I ask if anyone has personal experience of eczema in Thailand and how it reacted?

    Many Thanks in Advance

  9. :o Hi, I wonder if anyone could take a few minutes and advise us about the following.

We want to buy my 13 yr old Thai stepdaughter a computer to help her. She is due to change schools next year and because of her local village school upbringing she's had limited contact with computers and unfortunately these days computer literacy is a must.

We'd been toying with getting her a laptop but I wasn't sure if I should purchase before we go to Thailand or wait and purchase there.

Can someone tell me if there's any difference between a laptop purchased in Thailand or in Europe? Do they have a US or Thai keyboard as standard and is it a special Thai version of Windows? I have some instructions for making Windows XP Thai supported and we can always plug a Thai keyboard in but will this then be the same as Windows on a machine in Thailand?

I also noticed last year looking in Bangkok I was surprised to see prices not much different to prices over here in the West. Anyone like to comment on this?

Any advise, Help or Comments Welcome

    Thanks

    Les

  10. I'm British but have permanent resident in the Netherlands. I have just married a Thai Girl and we will shortly be applying for a visa for her to visit Holland. Provided everything goes ok as soon as we are in Holland we intend to apply for her residency permit.

I have however one extra question regarding visas. If all goes well I would also like to visit the UK for her to meet family and friends. Do we need to apply for a UK tourist visa for her before we leave Thailand or can we do that in the Netherlands?

  11. You're quite right it's about time I mentioned that I had been quietly checking back from time to time to see what comments had been made.

First let me say that I appreciate all the input made. I have also been in touch by email with the Dutch immigration service in the Netherlands. I explained my situation and they have replied. I asked questions regarding my British Nationality, my employment situation and the required documents.

    Here was the response:

Q: As I still have British Nationality how will this affect my options?

A: You can read more about the conditions in the following brochure: The admission of EU and Swiss citizens to the Netherlands.url One of the conditions for bringing a partner under the EU-rules is that you are married. Only then do the favourable rules concerning the income apply. If you are not married, your partner can only acquire a residence permit for partner reunification if all normal national rules for this are met. As an Britisch national, your partner won't be needing a MVV. Only a visa for short-term is enough to come to the Netherlands and then apply for a residence permit, at the town hall for the application of this permit).

Q: Because I am on unemployment benefit (UVV) How will this affect my future wife's request for residency for the Netherlands?

A: As an European Citizen who works in Holland, you are a so called "gemeenschapsonderdaan". The wife of a "gemeenschapsonderdaan" is also a "gemeenschapsonderdaan". This means that she could have legal residence on the basis of the European Treaty at the moment you are married. The conditions which you have to satisfy are that she has insurance and that you will have to have enough income to provide her (at least EUR1103,34 nett each month).

Q: I have read many horror stories about difficulties other people have had obtaining residency visas for their partners I would like to ask if you can advise what paperwork I will need to provide to the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok when applying for her mvv as the embassy's website does not appear to make any specific requests apart from marriage documents? I had asked a similar question to the emabassy by email but they just pointed me back to your website.

A: The passport of your wife, legalised and translated marriage certificate and a copy of the passport of you and at last, documents giving evidence of your income.

I will advise the board in the future as we go through the process.

  12. Hello, Can anyone advise?

I am a British National who has lived and worked for the last 20 years in the Netherlands.

I've came over to Thailand in January this year for a 3 month holiday. During the first few weeks I met and feel in love with my Thai GF. She lived with me for most of that holiday and at the end of my holiday I returned to my home in the Netherlands. I quickly arranged a new visa and I'm now back in Thailand.

We are expecting a baby in October and I would like to marry my GF and have her move back to live with me in the Netherlands.

I know it's relatively easy to get married here in Thailand but my question now is how easy will it be for me to take my new Thai wife back.

I'm not sure if my Nationality will complicate the issue. I assume I will have to go to the British Embassy in Bangkok first with an "affirmation letter", then have this translated. Then to her local amphur to have a marriage registered. But after that I'm not so sure. Do I change my status at the British or Dutch embassies, or both? I will then apply for a residency visa at the Dutch embassy. But I'm not sure how difficult it is to obtain one for my new wife. Is it as difficult a procedure as for a tourist visa?

Anyone with help or advice is welcome to respond.

    Thanks :o
