I got full parental rights from the amphur , my ex wife had to sign some papers but in and out in 30 minutes , she was taken aside and talked to ,telling her if she relinquished her rights she would need my help to get them back , hope this helps , I have been in Thailand nearly 20 years ,had all the <deleted> and bs but a lot of the government departments are actually quite good and the family courts are very helpful, if the amphur are challenging try the family courts before the lawyers, the lawyers make things hard to charge more

Thanks for the info. But did you legitimize your child in court before doing that? I'm aware that had I not done that it should be easy, but it looks like for some weird reason it might be much harder after doing it... Maybe I gotta check with the Amphur, but getting the mother do anything is tough so I was hoping to involve her as little as possible..

you need a good experienced lawyer who understands your situation. I went thru this many years ago, lot of paperwork and meetings! but at the end it worked out well and I even could change my visa into 'dependant visa' with only 400.000 on the bank!

so yes, it is possible but you need to prepare it well!

Thanks! Sounds terrible as I expected it be an amphoe trip.. How much did it end up costing you?

I can at least get the 2 month family visit visa with the current paperwork from juvenile court, is the 1 year different? I was just thinking to use that option..

  3. Hey,

I went through the process in Juvenile Court to legitimize my child when she was really young, but the mother was sadly marked as the only legal guardian as she was mostly with her at that time. Things have changed and I'd like to be her guardian as well - is this a simple process that we can just do in Amphoe like it would be if we didn't do the court stuff before, or are there any problems?

Numbers of positive cases still high but testing to be reduced?

Quick google shows Samut Sakhon to have a population of 60 000, obviously those figures are never accurate especially with a big migrant population, but it won't be off by that many multiples - how long can you keep testing there 10 000/d, without going through the same people many times?

Thanks Russell17au ! I can now confirm your experience at KKC Imm. After reading that it was Khon Kaen Immigration that changed your extension due to the new starting date at Nov 1, I've been there today, too and have my stamp renewed as I was in the exact situation you have been. Early 60 days extension way before Sept. 26 with starting date Sept 27. It took a little convincing but in the end I got the permission to stay date changed to Dec 30 at no charge.

Thanks for the photo! I was in Lampang Immigration yesterday and they wouldn't change the stamp for me. I'll go there again and show this.

edit: Is there any official immigration order that I could show them also?

  6. Hey, I came in to country just before they closed the border without visa (I've been on both tourist and Non-Imm visiting family before), and been on the amnesty since. Has anyone asked/tried if it's possible in this situation to get the 60d extension? Only asking as the wording on the info released by immigration pretty clearly says those on visa exempt have to leave before 26.9.  if not for illness / "obstacles"

edit: I guess I was little ahead of time with the thread as you can start doing extensions next week...

    Seems sensible enough.

Although I just can't seem to workout what makes places like Italy and New York so vicious in regards to the virus yet Thailand has had IMMENSE exposure and barely did anything to stop it other than a loose stay-at home order, hand gel, and masks.

I red a day or two ago about a study in China, that out of 300-something spreading events only one was outside air, others inside - mostly home spreading to family and public transportation. I think that (people in Thailand spending a lot of time in outside air, not a lot of public transportation outside of BKK), with Vitamin D from sun exposure, masks, and hot air must have a huge effect. Plus absolutely a great thing that you'll stay in hospital until testing negative, reduces a lot of probable infection hotspots forming.

  8. I didn't read the whole thread, but I can tell my friend got the same stamp in Phnom Penh, entered through a land crossing, and tried go get a new SETV two months later from HCMC. They were going to accept his application, and told him to book a ticket to Thailand he was missing, but quickly turned back and said you can't get a tourist visa after getting that stamp in PP. He flew to Chiang Mai and was interrogated for 30mins before letting him back in.

A bit complicated, suggest you call the airline to get correct answers. Could be that all / most airlines would not allow an 8 year old to travel with folks who are not her relatives. Call and check.

Called and should be ok at least on the Thai side for the airline. Should have asked about documents, return ticket etc though, will call again tomorrow

  10. My 8-year old daughter is supposed to fly to Vietnam next week with my close friends (farang man and his fiancee) without her Thai mother, who will bring her to airport to meet our friends and check her in.

Am I going to run into any problems? I red somewhere that they need proof that I'll be waiting in arrival airport, which kind of paper should I write? Is image or photocopy enough or should I sign and send original one? Any other papers we would need, like in Vietnam side when we'll be leaving together?

Does she need a return ticket to show airasia and/or immigration, or can we book them after she gets here and we see how she'll enjoy Vietnam? She does get 30 days stamp without visa, right?

    Thanks!

  11. I'm looking to do the Multi Non-Imm O based on my 5yr Thai child. Am I going to run into any problems and what should I use to replace the documents:

    Quote

    - original marriage certificate

    - 1 copy of marriage certificate, i.e. front and back page copied back to back on a single sheet with no date and signature on it.

    - 1 copy of my passport front page dated and signed by me

    - 1 copy of my wife’s ID card, front and back page copied on a single front sheet, dated and signed by my wife only

    - 1 copy of my wife’s Blue Book (Tabian Ban) copied on a single front sheet dated and signed by my wife only

I do have a court issued proof that I'm the legal father. Can I travel alone or should I take my daughter with me? Is it possible to do in Vientiane or is Savannakhet my best bet for a multi?

  12. I just assumed this type of law always existed. Makes sense to me. I've had the unpleasant situation of sharing a bus with obnoxiously drunk and annoying people before. People ride buses to get somewhere. They shouldn't have to deal with drunken idiots -- that's what bars are for.

I do 10-11 hours Chiang Mai to Udon (or the other way) pretty often. ~4 cans of beer and I can sleep like a baby on the bus, get there relaxed and ready.. Without beers I can't sleep on bus at all, and first thing I have to do when I get there is sleep 5-8 hours.

  13. All banks have branches that operate seven days a week, regardless of holidays. Usually in malls.

Yeah but international money transfers don't seem to come in..

  14. Yeah, but if you order 450 baht pizza listed on a menu, it's going to cost probably 450-10%+7%(scam added tax). Why would you do that when all other restaurants already have the tax included in prices? Other than trying to scam some poor guy (like me) who didn't notice the added 7% for a long time. Just add the 7% to the prices in the menu so listed 450 baht pizza will cost you 450 baht like it should.

  15. - Sex without a condom, especially with a gay man / ladyboy, might be lifechanging if you get lucky with STD lottery

    - Drug trafficing might be fun, though usually you get off after about 50 years so your life would be changed only until your ~70

    - Sex change operations are pretty cheap and I'll promise your life won't be the same
