It shows how ignorant some of you are.   Now I see why so many smokers are so inconsiderate. Some day the world will look back on smoking and wonder how could humans have been so stupid.  Until then !!!   I know there are more people like me  than those posting negative here but they are smarter than me and know it's senseless to waste time with people like you.

If I can smell smoke at 5 m, 50, or 500 m and I say it has a negative effect on me you smokers think it's your right!  I think this thread has served it's purpose.  It shows the world how far we need to mature as a people.   I'm sorry your addiction affects your brain send your laziness to find a secluded place where no one is down wind.   I hate to generalize but smokers are generally terrible out of breath at the slightest exercise.

The only thing I agree with is your third sentence.

Sir Walter Raleigh has a lot to answer for. He brought back from the New World potatoes and tobacco.

We would have done much better if we had smoked the potatoes and eaten the tobacco.

  2. Firstly, why do you assume I'm a property agent? I am not.

Secondly, why do you think an Australian property agent could do valuations on houses in Phuket? They could not, the market is totally different with no tradition of second-hand purchases and most houses on a street being completely different designs. Not like in Western countries. On estates, there isn't that problem and most people could to a valuation.

    Rgds,

    Evan Johns.

  3. Its you and now your mate SL who cannot grasp how real estate is valued, and you personally have no idea, not me

Seems you are the one with no idea on valuations.

A piece of property is worth exactly what someone is prepared to pay for it with the seller's agreement.

Anyone who claims they can value property in Phuket is not to be trusted.

    Regards,

    Evan Johns.

  4. What is the matter with you people??

    Are you all conspiracy theorists?

My original post says it all. I am not the owner of the bar, if I was, why would I post a question about it?

I am coming to Phuket soon. A friend recommended the bar and said that the owner is good and I might meet some locals.

When I mentioned this to another friend, he said that the bar was totally boring and that it was a waste of time going there.

Frankly, this whole thread has been a big waste of time. Not one of you has actually given an opinion on the bar. Only on my motives for posting.

I won't be going to the bar because firstly, it is far from where I stay and secondly, not a single positive endorsement on this thread.

  5. Do you own this bar and are looking for some free advertising or are you looking at buying it?

    Neither. Try reading the OP.

You have a vivid imagination coupled with a suspicious nature.

Looking at the location and the picture on FB, looks very boring. Will give it a miss.

  6. Apologies.

    Is the bar any good?

I would not even ask if I was in Phuket allready.

If I can find out before I arrive, it will save me some time as it is not close to where I will be staying.

  7. Hi all,

Do any of you regulars know of a bar called Guy's bar and restaurant?

It is in Chalong and I have had one friend recommend it to me and another friend said it is rubbish.

    Rgds

    Evan Johns.

  8. I'm not sure he was being tongue in cheek. Sleeping gas has undoubtedly been used in burglaries before. Perhaps PR could clarify.

You don't think the Mission Impossible reference was a bit of a give-a-way?

Either way. If he was being tongue in cheek, he most certainly was not being ironic. You're not American are you? They seem to be the worst offenders of misunderstanding irony, and using it inappropriately.

Please enlighten us by explaining what exactly was ironic about his reply?

He refers to sophisticated Thai thieves that used sleeping gas when he clearly believes no such thing.

You're correct. Not irony. Maybe sarcasm? Which you still don't get?

    Evan Johns.

  9. Just image how you treat hookers in your own country.... Like sh*t.

Maybe you do, but, I would treat them like the human beings that they are.

They are somebodies daughter / sister / mother.

    Evan Johns

  10. Sorry to tell you that whatever way you look at it: 3 + 3 = 6 Any other answer than 6 is wrong. It's an exact science.

 You've got something down to an exact science mate, but it's not math I'm afraid.

I'll try to refrain from replying to you NKM. All that time at the computer, your bar stool must be missing you!

    Strange post bangtaoboy.

As far as I know the Uncertainty Principle is part of the discipline of Quantum Mechanics.

    Can women become "slightly pregnant"?

    Evan Johns.

  11. What do you mean by that? You mean they have farang wives? Sorry I don't understand.

And yes I think people here are very diverse and so what if I want to hang out with like minded individuals? This could mean middle class working expats, who don't have bar girl girl friends and don't drink a lot. or it could mean fat property developers, rich old retirees who go to bars every night and only those with money.

And about Patong.. well you are right about that. I do look down on people who live in patong and pass instant judgement.

Who cares. I have my friends. I don't care if someone thinks they are better then me because they have more money, own a villa or 5 or whatever. I am so unaffected by it... I just hang out with like minded people. But don't need a forum to find friends.

This post seems to prove the OP's point.

    Evan Johns.

  12. highlights the bloke as a pathetic little man, who uses his posts to make his inadequate life seem less so,

You say this about someone based on a few posts; someone you have never met.

If the same criteria was used for you, you could be mistaken as an argumentative, morally superior, judgemental person that doesn't really know too much about the country you're living in.

I'm sure neither one of you guys is anything like this in real life.

    Evan Johns.

  13. The end of an era.

The end of the era is when he moved from original premises to the mall :)

You're right. It was fun there, which was totally lacking at the new premises.

Many yachties in the early evening.

  14. ^

Just walk? From one end of the beach to the other after a night drinking? And you think you are a rational poster?

Maybe after all these decades it's time to take the rosy tinted glasses off.............

  15. logbags, yes, your memory is indeed fuzzy.

Brian started out leasing the front left bar on Soi Crocodile (Soi Ko Yoi). He first had one unit, then he leased the next one making a double bar. After he sold out, he then made Dooleys which incorporated The Pizza Factory which sold the first pizza in Patong.

He then leased the land at the end of Soi Sunset and built bars. The land belongs to the same owner as the Expat, but, is not the same owner as Soi Ko Yoi.

Soi Ko Yoi was built in 1982, yet you say the Kangaroo bar was opened in 1983, yet, you don't remember Soi Ko Yoi?

Yes, Wim owned the Lucky Star bar. If he was ripping off the girls, then it must run in the blood as he was the father of JJ of jet-ski fame. Wim fell off his motor bike at very low speed and cracked his head on the kerb. He eventually died of his injury.

You're not the only long term resident, but, it seems my memory is better than yours.

  16. logbags, some of your "history" is plain wrong.

Who taught Thais to sub-divide land and make bars? Barfines?

The first Soi of bars built in Phuket was Soi Crocodile which was originally called Soi Ko Yoi, after the Thai man that owned it. He subdivided it into the bars you see today.

In 1983 all of the bars in Soi Ko Yoi were Thai owned and charging bar-fines.

Your comparison between tuk-tuk drivers and bar-girls is flawed. If a bar-girl's price is too expensive, you can ask another. there is no cartel and price-fixing as there is in the tuk-tuk trade. Bar-girls charge what the market will bear.

There are other inaccuracies in your post, but, I can't be bothered to address them all.
