  1. So I've had a few Non. Imm. visas over the years, first an Ed. then the M for 8 years and now I've been on the O for a couple years. At some point I learned that with Non. Imm. visas if you leave Thailand and don't re-enter within 90 days, the visa is canceled regardless of whether you have a 12-month extension and re-entry permit. So for ex. if I got a 12-month extension then went to UK for 5 months, I'd have to get a totally new Thai visa. Is this wrong? Can't recall when I learned this but I could have sworn you can't leave for more than 90 days in a single stretch and keep the visa. But others on Non. Imm. O are saying no such rule exists, and actually once I have a 12-month extension and re-entry permit I could leave for as long as I wanted. But seems those others have never actually left for more than 90 days in one stretch without re-entering at all. To be clear, I'm not asking about leaving for over 90 days total in a 12-month period. I know that's allowed. I'm asking about >90 days straight outside of Thailand. Been searching in this site and elsewhere and can't find the answer... But these other people are adamant I'm wrong. So maybe that's the rule only for the Ed. or M visa and I wrongly assumed it applies to all Non. Imm. O visas.... Any experts out there could settle this?
  2. Couple of minor corrections to my original post here after completing the marriage visa extension application today at Chaeng Wattana. Other comments are right about probably not needing the copies of two marriage witnesses' ID cards. I stuck them in with our marriage docs and it seems the first IO who checked our docs thought those ID copies had something to do with our house rental contract, which is why they ended up at the very end of the paperwork with the rental lease. But today the IO was wondering why they were there when the names didn't match any of the house docs. She did keep them with the rest of the paperwork so I'd include them if you have them, but probably not necessary. Also regarding my statement that the khor ror 2 marriage registration has to be certified by the local amphoe office at least 30 days before applying for the extension, this was a miscommunication between my wife and I (imagine that). She was told by the amphoe office staff that the doc was valid for 30 days, but I thought the IO's at Chaeng Wattana told her that. Today was 3 weeks after the first certification and we could have brought that one and tried it, but everything I've read online says it needs to have been certified within the last 7 days, so we swung by the amphoe office after the bank on the way to CW. Only other thing I left out in my initial post is that spouse definitely has to go with you to apply.
  3. Hi all, This site has helped me out a lot over the years so figured I'd share some info since I'm in kind of a unique position here. Went to Immigration in Building B at Chaeng Wattana last month to file my Non. Imm. O visa extension for 12 months based on marriage. Had all my ducks in a row except for one thing -- I forgot the application can only be filed less than 45 days before expiration. We got pretty far through the process with one IO checking all docs, giving us a couple of forms that we didn't have to fill out, and then arranging everything in the precise order they're needed before handing us off to another IO who realised we were there too early. So I was able to take the application precisely as the IO's wanted it back home, where I wrote down the exact docs and order for next year. Note that they only wanted one copy of everything (obv. different Immigration offices have slightly different requirements, this is specific for Bangkok Immigration as of Nov. 2025). For all copies black and white is fine except bank letter which has to be the original... Include all of the following in precisely this order: • TM.7 - Appl. for ext. of temp. stay w/ head photo glued on • STM.10 - Affidavit of family relationship to Thai national filled out by Thai spouse • STM.11 - Consent form for fact-checking and information verification of application for visa or change of visa type or extension of temporary stay in the Kingdom • STM.2 - Acknowledgement of criteria and conditions for permit of temporary stay in the Kingdom of Thailand • STM.9 - Acknowledgement of penalties for visa overstay • Copy passport ID page • Copy passport last entry stamp page • Copy Thai E-Visa • Copy TDAC front and back on 1 sheet • Original letter from bank stating balance (must include name of applicant) • Copy book bank front account number page • Copy book bank transactions page going back 2 months showing 1 transaction on day of application (if using a new book bank copy front account number page and transactions page going back 2 months, or submit last 2 months of bank statements) • Copy spouse's Thai National ID card front and back on 1 sheet • Copy spouse's house book (tabian baan) • Copy spouse's name change confirmation form (if applicable) • Copy Khor Ror 3 marriage cert. all pages • Copy Khor Ror 2 marriage reg. front and back on 1 sheet (*MUST BE STAMPED BY LOCAL DISTRICT / AMPHOE OFFICE WITHIN 30 DAYS OF APPLICATION DATE) • 4 color photos showing couple at residence (on 2 pages showing couple in front of address number, front of house, in bedroom, in dining area) • Hand drawn map of house location • Copy TM.30 showing current residence address • Copy rental lease agreement (including copies of ID cards signed by all signees + landlord's tabian baan of rental property and landlord's own residence + rental property ownership documents) *Note: obv. different docs required if you own your own home or condo. • Copies of both marriage witnesses' ID cards front only
  4. I've poked around related threads here but have found conflicting info on this... I'm a US citizen with a Thai wife heading back to Thailand a month from now. I've got over 400K baht, but it's still in my US account and it's only been over the 400K equivalent line for about a month. Does anyone know if this will get me the initial Non-Imm O visa? The application will go through New York embassy. (I know for sure I'll need 400K seasoning for 2 months in my Thai bank account to get the year extension. I did that last year but when applying for the initial visa I already had the 400K in my Thai account for 2 months, which is why I'm not sure if my current situation will cut it.) If I can't get the Non-Imm O before heading back then I'll arrive on the 60 day visa exempt and transfer the funds over before transitioning to the marriage visa once I'm there. But if I can get the marriage visa now, might as well. But I don't want to spend the money and time on that that if it's going to be denied. Thanks
  5. Thanks DrJack, much appreciated. If bank book is also being requested of people with extensions based on marriage when transferring to new passport, I wonder what the purpose is. Maybe they want to see we've already updated the new passport number with the bank so that Immigration can get the updated bank book on file? In that case I best scurry off to Kasikorn before hitting CW.
  6. I'm on a Non-Imm O (marriage) visa extension that's not up for renewal until August 2025. But soon I'll get a new US passport and will need to visit Chaeng Wattana to transfer the extension stamp. Been seeing in other posts here that I'll likely be asked to show my bank book to do that. Question is, if my bank book shows less than the 400,000 baht that was required to get the extension, is that a problem? Since getting the extension in June I've needed to gradually send money back to my US account to pay for bills and things back there. So, my Thai bank account will be showing considerably less than 400,000 baht when I need to transfer to new passport. From previous research, I didn't think I needed to keep 400,000 in the Thai account at all times between extensions. I have earnings coming from the US next year so my plan was to top up my Thai bank account 3 months prior to applying for my next visa extension. Now I'm worried the IO at CW will hassle me if I don't have the full 400,000 baht in the Thai account when transferring passports. Thanks for any help with this.
  7. Thanks. When you say I need the bank letter, you mean for the visa application in the US or the extension application while in Thailand, or both? Because the previous poster said the bank letter is only needed for extension and I can initially get the Non-O in the US with only a bank statement as far as financial paperwork goes.
  8. Thanks. What about the "bank letter stating the money has been deposited for not less than 2 months"? Or is that only needed for the extension as well?
  9. I've got my 400K in Thai bank but it still needs to season for 7 more weeks before I can apply for a marriage visa, and I need to go to the US for 2-3 months starting end of this month. Been here as a tourist last 5 months so I'd rather not have to come back so soon on another 30-day visa exempt and need to show my return airline proof of onward transit and then maybe also get an eyebrow raise from IO at Swampy. So my hope was to return to Thailand with a marriage visa from the embassy in New York, but everything I found in an online search is about applying for this visa when the applicant is already in Thailand. For one thing, getting the bank paperwork seems like needs to be done in person on the same day as application. Still I'm wondering if it's possible to apply for a marriage visa through an embassy outside Thailand? Maybe can be done with wife as power of attorney to get the bank paperwork in Thailand then email it over to submit in online application through the embassy? I logged into Thailand's e-visa website and it does appear possible to apply for a Non-Imm O through it, although even with a TR visa that process usually brings unwelcome surprises.
  10. Yup I have the rental agreement and signed house book and ID card from landlady. It's obvious on her ID that she's elderly so I doubt the IO will be bothered about me doing it myself. Re leaving it to last couple days, having extended on TR visas several times in the past I had assumed the requirements were the same for extending on visa-exempt. In all my years in Thailand I've never been asked to show a TM.30 for anything, hoping that luck continues tomorrow. I'll report back here how it goes.
  11. I'll try at Laksi first with no TM.30, read a bit more and several poster said they weren't asked for TM.30 at Laksi if arriving to Thailand by air as I did. If Laksi needs it then not a big deal to pay 800B fine at CW, better than paying that much to a hotel I don't just to get a TM.30. My landlady is a sweet old Thai woman, probably never heard of TM.30 and would probably find it confusing especially using the online portal. Better to not bother her.
  12. Because seems it would be easier to do it myself than get her involved.
  13. I'm in Thailand on a 30-day visa-exempt stamp after doing a border hop to Laos last month (before that I was here on a TR visa + extension). I need to extend once more so I can remain legal here until my booked flight back to the US in mid Feb. Already researched relevant posts here but still have a couple of questions so I know my ducks are in a row... First, I need to apply for the extension at LakSi immigration IT square, correct? (Last time I got the extension at Chaeng Wattana but reading info posted here Dec 2023 that if extending on a visa-exempt stamp rather than a visa, it needs to be done at LakSi.) Second, when extending last time at Chaeng Wattana I was not asked to show TM.30, but recent posts here say it is highly likely required at LakSi. Regarding TM.30, I've never gotten one of these in my life (lived here permanently 2011-22 and been visiting on TR visas last couple years). My wife and I rent a condo in Bangkok and I am listed as tenant on the lease agreement, and we do have copy of landlord's ID card and her house ownership paperwork. So this makes me a "possessor" which should enable me to obtain the TM.30 on my own at Chaeng Wattana, correct? Plan is to scoot up to Chaeng Wattana, get the TM.30 in person, then over to LakSi to apply for the extension. I'll be applying only 2 days before my current stay expires so if anyone sees any holes in this plan, please let me know Any help much appreciated.
  14. Hoping to confirm that I'm correct in what I'm tentatively planning here. I'm here in Thailand on a single-entry TR visa and am currently nearing the end of a 30-day extension. So, planning on going up to Vientiane before my extension expires on Dec 20. Up there, I intend to apply for a new TR visa *or* re-enter Thailand on a 30-day exempt entry. My goal is another 60-90 days in Thailand. And, having recently gotten married, I've only recently heard about the 60-day extension based on marriage and so did not deploy that when extending my current visa last month. My question is, can I deploy that 60-day extension based on marriage on top of the 30-day visa-exempt entry (aka re-entry) that I'm considering? If so, I'll do that. If not, I'll need to try for another 60-day TR visa up in Vientiane. Thanks for any help.
