  1. I have had a PCX 125 and thought it was a good solid machine. Now I have an exciter. If I was going for a new scooter it would be the N-max. If they did the S-max here I would trade the exciter in tomorrow. The ABS wins hands down for me. Simply the amount of gravel/sand on the roads is very similar to black ice back in the UK. It could literally be the difference between life and death.

Some have gone on about the size of the fuel tank. If you need the range for touring or whatsoever just get an MT bleach container say 3 ltr. Clean it out and put gas/petrol in and stick it under your seat or store in a top box. Even with the n-max's 6.7 ltr tank is more than ample. The exciter's is a poxy 4.7 ltr.

  2. You didn't say what your age was. Why don't you join the army, for example, the Royal Corps of Transport. You will get your HGV in no time plus every type of license you can think of. OK you will have to take some <deleted>. But you will come out with a trade that is hugely in demand and decent dosh in your pocket. You won't be near the front line as canon fodder.  Just an idea.

  3. I have the Exciter and prefer the 5-speed box as it saves on shoe leather when riding around town. My only grip is the small fuel capacity and no underseat storage. Easily solved with a Givi removeable top box that can take a 'skid-lid' and a 3 ltr bottle of gas and a funnel.

  4. I too work offshore and have spent my leave in Thailand for the past 8 years. I am one of the lucky one's to still have a job though on a much reduced salary. I bitch about the Thai system, but then again people will always find something to moan about. Overall I prefer Thailand to my native UK. Yes, it is cheaper here to live. I am based in Jomtien and have many places yet to explore. I have found if you have good manner's, a happy outlook on life and of course sociable you get on anywhere in the world. Think I will be pitching here for some time to come.

  5. At the moment with the oil price the way it is there are not a lot of openings. Having a trade is a good start and your age is OK. Before they will entertain you they will want you to have your medical and BOSIET. You did not say if you reside in Thailand. You can do both these requirements here. The OGUK medical can be done at the Bumrumgrad Hospital in Bangkok and the BOSIET somewhere outside Bangkok. Try going on 'oilcareers' there are a lot of vacancies there.

It's a case of getting them two pieces of paper and doing a good CV and keep knocking on the door's and one will eventually open. Try Mermaid Shipping in Sri Racha. They have a school there that do NDT testing course (None Destructive Testing). That could be worthwhile. You have to be careful that don't spend too much money for nothing especially if you cannot recuperate it with a decent wage.

    Good look anyway.

  6. I have had loads of scooters and bikes in general is my fetish. The first was the Yamaha Nouvo 135cc. If they had fuel injected it, better headlights and a few more improvements I would have bought another. I have had a Nouvo SX but found it rather tame and the fuel tank capacity a pain the ass.

Four weeks ago I bought the new Honda Click with alloy wheels. The wheels because they are tubeless and less punctures. The LCD headlights are more than adequate. Good fuel range. I did 180 KM and still had 2 digits on the fuel meter. The acceleration for a 125 is superb. Open the throttle from standstill and you are up to 50 KM per hour within 100m. Also, like some people have said it depends what you want from a scooter.

On the safety side. I don't ride my bike in Pattaya. I live in Jomtien and the only place I use it is to goto Tesco or Makro. If I go into Pattaya I will use the baht bus as then I can have a few beers. I intend to go touring on it. Planning Pattaya up to Chang Mai. Take 7 - 10 days to get their through the national parks. Spend 7 days or so in Chang Mai doing some of the roads up there. Returning via a different route back to Pattaya.

  7. Went to Koh Samet once travelling through Rayong first for a 'look-see'. Just rode through as nothing of interest there. After the day on Koh Samet went to Ban Chang and stayed overnight there. I would bye-pass Rayong.

  8. Wayned. This is not hearsay at all. I sailing with the person in question now. He is a DP Operator and I am down the Engine Room. I will be going on the bridge shortly to chat to him. Is it possible to go to another immigration office outside of the Jomtien area or do you have to go to the local office where you reside?
