  1. Hi newbie,

Just to let you know there are nice places outside cm. I am living in a housing development in San sai 15 km from cm, english style house surrounded by rice fields with plenty of backroads for biking and walking. Look up Baan Nonnipa on Internet. of course you will need to have a Thai friend to purchase for you as I have done with my bf. housing priced from 1.2 million to 3 depending on type and land lot. Se attached

  2. When you see results like this you have to ask what was wrong with the test. Many years ago I was talking to a guy who was teaching introductory accounting in English at a newly opened Thai university (St. John's, if it matters). He was telling me the Thai University Affairs Office, which set the curriculum standards, required him to create final exam questions of a level of difficulty he would expect to find on the United States CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exam -- an exam taken after a person has studied accounting for four years and worked at least two years in the field. In other words, the people writing the test questions were not trying to discover how much of the material that had been presented to the students they had learned, they were simply trying to create a barrier to success so that the only students who could get a passing grade were those who cheated or those who got favorable treatment one way or another. I'll bet this exam was the same.

By the way, when I was trying to teach high school mathematics in English, I couldn't get a copy of the curriculum in English, so I bought a number of the books students use to cram for the university entrance exams. The topics covered included things like symbolic logic, calculus, and trigonometric equations. Since the school week allowed for four hours a week of study over three years, I can guarantee no students could have learned all that subject matter.

So the problem is with the people making the tests. It may be true that many Thai teachers really do not know their subject matter, but the tests are not properly designed to show that. Any time you have 80% of testees "fail", your criteria for failure are not valid.

i would agree that, with such an high percentage of failure, the this is invalid. A test of this nature must reflect the subject matter that teachers themselves learned and the questions must be drawn from same subject matter.

  3. PM: we've restored order, it's time to reunify and move forward

BANGKOK: -- In his latest televised address, both in Thai and English, prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva affirmed the restoration of order, urging for reunification despite differences of opinions and reiterating the prioritisation of the value of lives. Those responsible for arson, violence and other crimes will be prosecuted strictly according to the rule of law, but also with fairness and transparency. He mentioned that the previously rejected 5 point reconciliation plan proposed by the government will be employed.

"We belong to the same house" he said.

The prime minister pointed out immediate solutions, with ad-hoc Rapid Response Force set up to assist those affected. He said the rehabilitation of damages are as important as restoring morale of the people.

As for longer-term solutions, Abhisit listed the revocation of rights-ridden government decrees, fair and transparent prosecutions, as well as reunification of the country.

I am very proud of prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and the incredible patience and courage he has shown in the face of this national crisis. He is indeed a Tiger, and a brilliant leader. Thais, for the most part, have not appreciated this beautful country and its' potential. Surrounded by 3 out of 4 countries whose citizens live in fear, Thailand stands as a beacon of freedom and a country that can, once more, uphold the rights of all citizens who place 'love of country' over selfish terrorist acts. I ask that those involved be punished and no one should have parliamentary immunity for the terrorist insanity that was displayed by the red shirt leaders.

  4. My Thai wife asks for 5 mins with the childs parents

we have a child together and her love for her child is greater than any cause in Thailand

She can not believe any Thai lady would put her child in such danger

so she walks around the house and says

    [snip]

there is no report of a 10 year old boy being shot in bkk. this is some red shirt supporter trying to gain browniie points for the terrorists. shame on you

  5. The reds might be claiming that they are fighting for democracy but they are doing it in the wrong way. Holding the city hostage for 2 months is just idiotic. Enough is enough. The Thai kids go back to school on Monday, but somehow I doubt this will all be resolved by then.

please educate yourself about the real motive-Takki money. They are not protesters but Takki employees who are brainwashed. They are out to destroy democracy for the sake of greed. without Takki dollars, there would be no riot in bangkok. maybe you should at least tell the truth for the sake of school children.
