Would also not apply. No exceptions are currently made to the requirement to have a private insurance policy from one of specified companies. The "policy" as it is currently written emphasizes purchase from specified companies, of insurance whether needed or not,  and does NOT emphasize (or IMO address) being adequately insured/protected for medical costs.

But anyone with a Thai spouse or child  could change to  extension of stay for marriage.

Some IOs are apparently saying that even those require insurance if the original visa was OA. I think that is wrong interpretation but if so, would need to leave the country and return on a non-O first  (or come in visa exempt and change to non-O).

Do you no which office saying that. Even if you make marriage extension, you require insurance if the original visa was OA.

And Chiang Mai Immigration as well, according to a post from the past couple days:

Its difficult to understand what they mean.If you change from retirement extension(from beginning O-A)to spouse extension you need insurance. But they can also mean that it is for example a family where the man is seeking retirement extension from O-A, then the wife and child can hang on his extension so that they also get an extension if they are under 50 years, for example. Or if the wife does not have the money for her own. What do you think about this guideline?

Brilliant Idea. I'm sure BJ will read and take notice. .

BJ,why Thailand not make a visa like in Philippines. The SRRV CLASSIC is for active/healthy principal retirees who would opt to use their Visa deposit of $10,000 or $20,000 (50 years old & above) or $50,000.00 (35 to 49 years old) to purchase condominium units or use for long term lease of house and lot.(I hope you read this BJ.)
