oh yes, please slot in somewhere the wild boar they will bar-b-q because one farmer caught one on his way to bangkok. the camaraderie /rapport is important, you know. it's all pr and show-time causes with arisman entertaining and crooning the night away. :)

it's all about la vie en rouge ala carte tradtional molam style.

  2. These were taken on the 2nd or 3rd gathering here of the multi-colored shirts whose numbers have grown significantly in their rallies while the red mobs numbers have gone down considerably. Anyone who denies these facts are delusional.

that's because the red shirts sent some of their members to these yellow shirt rallies doning yellow shirts.......

    just like vice-versa

    :D

not quite....the yellow bosses paid their cheap isaan workers to wear yellow and join their anti-red protests besides threatening the isaan workers that they may lose their jobs if they do not put on yellow shirts as demanded. :D

correct me if i am mistaken.

most of the faces in the photos tell me they don't look like the elites of thailand and are therefore not yellows at heart.

    again i stand corrected. :)

  3. the yellow shirts bangkok taipans paid their normally red shirt isaan workers 5000bahts each to wear yellow shirts and asked them to protest against their "brothers" in bangkok.

either way, looks like being from isaan after all has its plus points at this time.

the yellow taipans are finally realising they must never exploit the reds at the workplace. :)

Even IF there are no red shirts being paid just to be there, they are still only a minority.

who has more babies? the elites or the poor? what percentage of thailand's population are farmers and what percentage of thais rule thailand's population?

figure this out and one will know who the minority is in thailand. :D

  4. A disappointing but unsurprising response from the biggest stubborn mule PM the world has ever seen.

Nope, that would be the other guy, Thaksin.

I concur. Thaksin is very stubborn. He could call this off tonight, but won't because he is desperate to return to Thailand at any cost.

    Cheers, Rick

which rejected homesick preisdent-in-waiting would call it off....? :):D:D

  5. So they are dropping the red shirts. We all know why, yes? So when the reds without red attack the Thai soldiers and the general public with lethal weapons, and they are filmed doing so, they can more conveniently deny responsibility.

Blend in and not stand out...........a good strategy adapted all over the world by nature....known as camouflage Jing, to confuse the oppostion......not necessarily to attack them......... :)

brilliant, the way of the chameleon.... :D

  6. I hope Thaksin will have to pay a few hundred million by tomorrow for dead red shirts - those who actively commit the terrorist acts and those who still support them deserve to die - tonight please

What nationality are you again? "Let's kill all those people that support terrorists and run around killing people!" . Throw "Saddam is bad", "You're either with us or against us!" and "Weapons of Mass Destruction" into the same bin.

Your response makes absolutely no sense what so ever ...too much jaa baa?

ONLY A DEAD TERRORIST IS A GOOD TERRORIST

The are a lot of them in Bangkok right now conveniently gathered in one place shoot the lot than pick the rest off the streets and be done with!!!!!!

comments like this will get a lot of farangs hurt in bangkok and thailand.... :):D:D:D:D:D:D:D:cheesy:

  7. You cannot call an election every time (especially here) a minority group gets p'ed off and wants a new government - then you would have one every 6 months. Apply force and remove them from the streets. Or they will just vote in the most corrupt of all - Thaksin. These guys do not care about law and order...

who do you think can be trusted not to be corrupt in politics.....anywhere in thailand and the world? :)

  8. Why is this contiuing to be played out as a Hollywood Movie?

There will obviously be serious bloodshed if the Army or anyone else moves in, yet the answer to removing these People is absurdly simple and has been used many time in history.

Surround them with barbed wire to prevent escape and re-grouping then cut off all water, food and power. Within a few days and probably sooner in the heat of Bangkok the Red Shirts will be begging for unconditional surrender. Of course offer to extract the Mothers and Children.

Yes in a Hollywood movie this would work

You forget we are talking about the red shirts leaders who would be back in their hotel rooms

They would wait for the women and children to die

put them on the barb wire and shout

    Double standards Double standards

wow, you should be a movie director and am sure you will win many accolades and academy awards........ :):D:D:D:D

  9. Why are so men red-farangs unstable? The down and out in the west seethe with anger towards people with educations and blame everyone else for their problems. And when in Thailand they gravitate to the same ilk.

hailand is very liberal and welcomes all sorts of people, including weirdos, psychos and people who might be in jail in another country for their public behavior. Sad, but true...

    :D:D:D

brilliant deduction on thailand's liberal policy in welcoming one and all to her shores.......

heard of the story of two mad men in an asylum where one told the other that god spoke to him in his dream and the other mad man replied he did indeed appear in the first mad man's dream to speak to him???????

between the "educated" and the "uneducated" , who is more mad?????????

    :D

at first, i thought i was alone in observing the influx of weidos, psychos, etc.etc. flooding thailand....

    thank you for confirming otherwise.....

now i am feeling not alone anymore and but wonder where we fit in........in this liberal policy paradigm of thai society.......

    :)

are not the uneducated :D entitled to be mad when they feel cheated and are :D the educated sometimes not very mad when they feel shortchanged at their work places????? :D

  10. There is no Thailand if the government can't disperse a mob of 6000 armed rebels occupying an important district of the capital. No, it is not a game. It is about the very existence of Thailand as a nation. This is civilization vs. anarchy. Would the red thugs be tolerated for weeks in your country? You say yes? I don't believe you.

Good Point Jingthing, how would this be handled in let's say Holland?

It would never be necessary in Holland- people are enfranchised, well-educated, they have removed the priviledges of title and inheritance, they receive sufficient pay for their work, have more than adequate health care and welfare provision and have plenty of Heineken.

    crap reply.....

    holland may be enfranchised,blah,blah, blah......

BUT, do you know they have global drug lords and leaders and what have you.......

again, what a crap reply......from a supposedly non-dutch trying to represent holland to the world..... :)

  11. Note that you only get this if you login to the Malaysian site in English.

...besides, these flights are hardly available when you go on-line to book them

try booking the =line for the present promotions.

    it 's all crap, really.

  12. Note that you only get this if you login to the Malaysian site in English.

...besides, these flights are hardly available when you go on-line to book them

try booking the =line for the present promotions.

    it 's all crap, really.

  13. They are still cheap, but often checking I find there cheap only if you book 6 - 9 months in advance..

If you book for next month then there more than double the price + often more expensive than main airlines..

couple of things I looked at.

AA to Perth AUS, book now for March = 11,000 baht more than 6 months ago + 4,000 baht more than 'Promotion' with TG direct.. I have booked TG 20,850 baht for next week.

No idea if something new in the price but 15kg baggage with AA 6 months ago was 200 baht each way for KL - PER = 400 baht.

Now is 500 baht each way for March. + BKK to KL is also doubled.

KL book for March then Malaysia Air is 277 baht cheaper than AA

yes , book 6 to 9 months early.

but when you try to change your flight, you will be the most sorry person to think air asia is cheap.

the penalty fee is so sky high that you are better off throwing away your airasia airticket.......

airasia is a wash-out case long before the laundry is put out to dry.... :)

  14. airasia runs ads on tv and on-line often.

problem is, when these ads are on, one canNOT gain access on-line to book the promotion tickets.

worst still, if one gets on-line, be very very careful as often enough , when it comes to making credit payments with all your personal credit card details, one thing or another will go wrong as experienced and reported here in thaivisa by thaivisa memebrs AND IN OTHER ASIAN FORUMS..

    what can go wrong?

airasia may reject your payment after you in-put your credit CARD details.

    1. an "ERROR" screen will pop out on you making your booking impossible.

    2. your password gets fuzzled and you cannot book the flight no matter how you try to book the flight or Your password or user id suddenly is "not valid " anymore.

    3. disgruntled short-chamged, overworked underpaid staff will one way or another sabotage your booking.

    4. important details are hidden somewhere whereby some where somehow, you never get to book the cheapset flight available as advertised.

    suggestion:

try booking now the most advertised taipei for RM99 (ringgits) of klcc or even the tianjin , china flights.

you end up with all kinds of different fares on screen after logging in and never really get to book the amazing airfares!

just beware of sabotage - especially when any company pay their staff peanuts to expect work excellence out of them.

    heard of the peter principle?

    better still, caveat emptore!/buyer beware!

thaivisa forum is not the only source of many travllers woes with airasia.

besides, airASIA IS NOT THE ONLY BUDGET AIRLINE IN THIS REGION.

THE MANY SMALLER NATIONAL AIRLINES IN SE ASIA OFFER JUST AS CHEAP IF NOT,GOOD FARES AND BETTER SERVICES - WITHOUT HIDDEN COSTS MOSTLY - UNLIKE AIRASIA!!!

or, more importantly, beware of some crook or whosoever- may- be who is ever ready ready to steal your private details and credit card numbers and compromise the at your expense.

  15. Avoid or Go?? i was told to stay clear of pattaya

I was told the same by a few people back in 2001, and then I decided to visit......wow!......couldn't believe my eyes......by far the best place in thailand for me.

The other side of the coin:

I've traveled nearly everywhere in Thailand, and Pattaya was by far the worst place I've been to. It all depends on what TYPE of night life and activities you're looking for. IMHO Pattaya is a window to the out-of-control expat sub-culture of Thailand surrounded by the same lights and glitz you'd find in seedy districts of Tokyo or New York, (albeit cheaper and lower quality). But same rip-offs, crime and tourist traps.

If you want to see the real Thailand (exotic, genuine culture of Thailand and its people), stay away from Bangkok, Pattaya, and Koh Phangan's full moon party. In resort areas (like the south islands), stay away from the western-style resorts; find something a little more authentic and the bonus is that it'll be cheaper.

But consider the source: I'm in my late 50's, not into drugs, booze or womanizing, and have already done the Tokyo, New York, Rio, Full-Moon Party, Pattaya thing. Maybe everyone has to do it at least once to get their fill.

observations here must be noted, username5.

    but, note his conclusion .

that's where the real gem of the advise is, especially the advise "to do it at least once to get their fill"

of course if you guys are mormons, go elsewhere and remember the "sodom and gomorah" advise here, otherwise you need Gabriel to guide and protect you from the Fallen One.

Pattaya , patong or Patpong are not for the faint-hearted.

these places are for the die-hards and full of punches type - in and out of bed and breakfasts.

anyone of you a chuck norris?

if not visit the temples, waterfalls, rivers, the mountains and the war museums and avoid most commercialised beaches and islands

thailand for a three weeks holidays???

great choice and a once-in-a-lifetime destination?

you'll never regret it if you stay clear of troubled spots.

you may even come back for more like most advisers here, who knows? :)

  16. It would be sad to visit Thailand and only visit the bar scene... as exciting as it may seem.

I would suggest at least 3 days in Bangkok and see a couple of sites there: Kings palace, Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun) and a longtail boat ride along the river to see the river market and King's barges. The Temple of Dawn is along the same route.

I would also take a day tour from Bangkok up to Ayutthaya and back. Ayutthaya is a famous temple that was destroyed by the Burmese army in the 14th century and truly a remarkable place to visit. You go up by bus and back along the River (Mae Nam) Chao Phraya.

I would take at least a 2 or 3 days on a trip to Kanchanaburi (3 hours by bus from Bangkok) and visit the war museum. And, while there take a day trip to the Arawan water falls in the mountain area.

Then, go back to Bangkok and plan a beach trip. It will take a one hour plane ride, or a long (8 hours) bus or train ride to get down to the beach resort areas in the south near Surat Thani. There are the resort islands of Samui, Tao and Koh Pha Ngan where the famous full moon party is located.

Personally, I prefer to fly a little further to Krabi which I find much more interesting and cheaper than Phuket. The famous Patong beach area of Phuket is over priced for what you can get in other places. If you go to Krabi be sure to visit Rah leh beach and Hong Island. The most popular area of Krabi is Ao Nang beach area. From there you can visit the other islands including a day trip to Koh Phi Phi islands which have the best snorkling.

I believe there might be a flight over to Pattaya from Krabi and that is where I would end up my trip. Pattaya is the Sodom and Gomorrah of Thailand and well worth visiting. It offers the best bang for the buck as far as your tourist dollar is concerned. There is far more to Pattaya than just the crazy bar scene and you might not go anywhere else if you visit Pattaya first... and that would be a shame.

Although well advertised, I would forgo the bar area of Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy of Bangkok, unless your plane arrives at midnight and you have no place else to visit the first night. Pattaya is much better.

most sound and reasonable advise here including the one on never "fall in love" in thailand so quickly.

visit pattaya first and one may end up not going anywhere else and one will miss the real thailand absolutely as advised.

aaaaaah......THAILAND, where "puyins",(ladies) love you "mak mak" (very, very much)!

again , do not fall in love at first sight or one will end up "going out of (one's) head". :)

welcome to thailand where "love is (always) in the air".

and trust, me , it is the very very contagious kind too....!

  17. Strong Thai baht still in the pipeline

We expect that by the end of next year the Bank of Thailand will raise its key interest rate by at least 50 basis points, and the economy will be back on track at pre-crisis levels.

    -- The Nation 2009-10-06

So we can count on this, coming from an expert....and reported in the Nation, no less.

:) with the usa owing big time - 3 ( yes, "three") trillion dollars and with no solution to pay abck anytime now - to the chinese ( who are thinking of dumping the us dollar now )and with asia/pacific countries leading the world out of the present global crisis, one should not count on the us dollar or the euro to be propped up any further after what the lehman brothers and the likes have done to the usa and most western nations who backed the usa banks and stock markets to the hilt during the last round.

the IMF has just released a report yesterday saying the worst is not over and done with.

in brief, the worst is yet to come - and very soon for that matter when the us dollar and the euro will take a dive of sort. :D

  18. Never have, and very unlikely to try one because my most common route is SIN-BKK-SIN and on that route the "budget" carriers are no cheaper than the "full service" ones. Supply & demand I guess...

... the thought of no pre-assigned seat also really puts me off!

flying in thailand on budget airlines is still better than travelling a bus with a crazy doped up driver ..........

apparently you have not seen a boozed up pilot or navigator or even air stewards and stewardess , have you??????

just like a crazy doped up bus driver........

try flying during the holiday seasons .....especially during the xmas/new year holidays.....

everyone needs a booster, you know, when everyone else around them are partying on board...

oh yes, "the thought of no pre-assigned seat.....really puts (one) off ".

  19. i do agree with your many keen observations, but aren't you coming down a bit hard on the low budget - usually as you rightly observe, first time travllers?

yes, "airmonkeys....set up (these) airlines with junk bonds" and that's why the said "Malaysian Business" ,( sept 16th - sept 30th issue ) mentioned about the cancellations/delays in the new plane orders by one low budget airline.

therein, one should note these old planes - or non-delivery of the promised new ones - on an 18 hours long haul flight may prove to be another flight of no-return as highlighted here in TV elsewhere about "The Sydney Morning Herald" and "The Age" although both the Australian newspapers were talking about a different subject matter but still on the topic of increasing numbers of Ozies' dying in thailand.

Yes, paying that extra bit of a dollar will always be worth it unless one is on a sucide mssion or one's suicidal tendencies is coming on head-strong.

Nothing beats Jetstar or even Tiger Airways but I am not sure the latter flies out of Australia to BKK.

Besides , both these low budget airlines are linked to their national carriers one way or another unlike those of the other budget airlines linked to junk bonds type as observed here by "j..s..wong." :)

  20. Hi Chris

I always use westeasttravel.com, they are for me the cheapest, my wife went out with my daughter in the middle of school hols for £300.00 each inc tax with Gulf Air, she said they were good even though there is a short stop in Bahrain.

October is cheap, November a bit more because of the Festival time, Christmas the moment is crazy price, normally come down towards Christmas but in my experience not guaranteed

One search I done on west east travel is below, might be worth having a play about with it for a few days with dates ect. Hope this helps

Good luck, I am still holding out for a cheap one for Christmas, not sure we will get one but I am still trying and searching each day for a deal, did not think we would get out there in the school hols for the price we did so who knows.

Westeast Travel normally add new fares at the end of the month so keep you eye's peeled for the deals they go fast

Let me know how you get on

    Simon

    best suggestion.

any other suggestions may not be that great during the x'mas/new year holidays, budget airlines included, except for jetstar.

bahrain stop-over is pleasant and manageable and good for stretching before the long haul out here from london.
