  1. All concerned,

See attached news article published Friday 9th July regarding PRSS outbreak in Thailand. Also I've found details of a recommended vaccine and where it can be purchased in Buriram and Surin.

Officers in Various Provinces Tackle PRRS

THAILAND - Livestock officers have inspected pig farms in various provinces following reports of the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) that has killed a large number of pigs in Nong Khai province.

Livestock officers in Buriram province have visited pig farms to advise to farmers on hygiene and farm management. They have also given the farmers disinfectants and urged them to urgently report any symptoms of illness in the pigs to the department, so that officers could inspect and prevent the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile in Nakhon Pranom province, the Livestock Development Department, in coordination with local organizations, has expedited inspections in slaughterhouses and meat vendors. Nakhon Phanom is another province where pigs are reported to be attacked by the PPRS as it neighbors Nong Khai province.

Livestock officers have instructed for meat packing to be conducted in standardised and hygienic slaughterhouses to prevent the spread of the disease. Authorities have also prevented the transport of pork from unapproved areas.

    Here the details i got on the Vaccine;

    Hi,

You can buy vaccine for PRRS at Buriram, the shop name is Buriram karnkaset(the owner name hia yao) or at Surin the shop name is Chartchai Farm. It's cost 60 thb /dose. Vaccine name is Berlinger. You also need Micropassma vaccine together. And must reboot Pavovirus vaccine again 20 days before matching.

    Best regards,

    Bum

I hope this is of interest to those concerned.

  2. Im looking for any information on the main varieties of sugarcane used in Thailand. A few months ago i cam across an old post on the forum that listed 5 or 6 different varieties with their potential yield/rai and soil type suitability. Despite my best efforts i have not been able to find it again.

Perhaps someone will remember it and can lead me to the thread or maybe even the original author will see this and reply, any help will be appreciate.

Oh, and a suggestion, do you think it would be a good idea to have a topic for each major crop and category of livestock to help organise the forum a bit more and encourage contributions ?

  3. IsaanAussie,

Have a look Thai-Denmark Swine Breeder PCL. Company sells the crosses you are interested in. i can send u the website link if you tell me your email.

I have just ordered 2 x AC1 Parent Hybrids from ACMC Asia, this is the asian division in Thailand of a uk company, very good breeding company, doing lots of business in Thailand, Cambodia, China. For Boars in Thailand only their Vantage Ultra is available, semen is also available. For the other boar lines they can send semen to you from the UK, I wanted Vantage Refine Semen, commercial hybrid derived from Duroc, but shipping/transport will obviously push the prices up. For the gilts i ordered, for June delivery, the cost is 9000thb each + transport costs. Again i can send you the website.

I suggest you might want to look at a high performance commercial gilt/sow, then use a Duroc derived boar, this is where i am heading.

Betagro sell BE 81, duroc derived commercial hybrid boars, i got quoted 25,000thb for 1. CP also sell, but havent seen duroc derived females.

For Artificial Insemination in Thailand, Pornchaiinter, i can send the website address, all the equipment, plus wide selection of semen, and lots more.

I am in Surin Province, let me know if you want to exchange email addresses.

What are you doing for feed ? Im buying straights and mixing them myself, using Maize meal, Soy Bean meal, rice bran, and Biopro-480 (i have the website address). For the straights though i had to go to Chonburi, looking for a supplier somewhere closer to Surin.

Hope this helps/is of interest to you.

  4. You can buy the spade without handle and bring in as checked luggage, probably most other garden tools also and fashion the handle here. The handles they use here seem strong and long lasting, more so than the implement with exception of the hoes.

Toolpro had English made spades complete with hickory handle last time I looked, but not cheap.

The Thai sales guy actually asked me what they are used for. :)

    Guys,

Where is Toolpro in Thailand ? I too am looking for good quality implements etc
