  1. My small twist on the topic is that I'm assembling documents to apply for the O A from inside the USA, where I've been holed up since March. I've had several O extensions from within but timing seems good to get the O A in place.

I'm in no hurry to beat against the door at immigration until quarantines and airplanes ease up. If I am able to get the visa issued here, how long would I have to arrive in the Kingdom?

  2. Several good recommendations above. Chiang Mai works well in two stages: 1. Find a nice habitable guest house on a weekly basis and 2. Use that time to wander and find a suitable extended stay. Chiang Mai seems to work best for friends in similar situations once their feet are on the ground here.

  3. I've visited Dental 4U for routine work since shortly after they opened in Chiang Mai and as recently as last week and have been very satisfied. Before that I made a few visits to other names mentioned on this topic. I was most disappointed by a pricey competitor and seeming expat favorite.

I did not pay attention to the names. I did have an extraction recommended by the Dental4U doctor done in the States, where they are much more generous with nitrous for that level of engagement, but have had everything else done here for quite some time and am still smiling.

  4. For the past few years friends and I have enjoyed the house band at Baan Rim Nan. The group we favored doesn't seem to be playing there now. If anyone can help shed light via post or pm, we'd like to track the group down for one of our holiday evenings out.

  5. Sure, you can live on 65k these days. You probably can't die on it. Whether or not that's a comfort is up to you. No one else's metric really will apply to you.

That's not meant to be cold. Every day here is better than a day elsewhere if here is where you want to be.

  6. I was pleased to find Uber in CM and have used it a half dozen times this week, including quite late at night. Rarely more than a 5-6 minute wait, although at 2am it took closer to 25-- still less than the hassle of finding a tuk tuk to take me to my home and less expensive even with the unsolicited tips I give.  I may simply have been lucky or helped by good ratings. (Customers are rated just as drivers are and that information is available to the driver when a request is made).

None of the drivers I've had in CM (or elsewhere) to this point have been full-time, which very likely makes a difference. If the economics or novelty don't work it will disappear, of course.

Tonight will be an interesting test.
