  1. My small twist on the topic is that I'm assembling documents to apply for the O A from inside the USA, where I've been holed up since March. I've had several O extensions from within but timing seems good to get the O A in place.

I'm in no hurry to beat against the door at immigration until quarantines and airplanes ease up. If I am able to get the visa issued here, how long would I have to arrive in the Kingdom?

  2. Several good recommendations above. Chiang Mai works well in two stages: 1. Find a nice habitable guest house on a weekly basis and 2. Use that time to wander and find a suitable extended stay. Chiang Mai seems to work best for friends in similar situations once their feet are on the ground here.

  3. The onward ticket really doesn't need to be a hassle. Right now a Bangkok-Ho Chi Minh City ticket on Air Asia will set you back something around £18. When it matters, which varies with the wind and the airline, the onward ticket requirement doesn't need to be headed anywhere specifically other than out of the Kingdom. At worst, you'd have a nice souvenir you could frame inexpensively and hang in your study in later life when you look back on the adventure.

  4. In my own experience, WU transfers from the US to Thailand have been roughly 14.00 per. WU does place a monthly cap on how much can be transferred. (USD comes to mind; it's on their web site). Bank of America can be $7-25 depending on the time of transfer. By U.S. laws, there's no limit on what you transfer, but your bank will report anything over USD 10,000. Everything these days has a paper trail. Even this post ?.

  6. I am greatly in need of a qualified local electrician who can make a house call. I need advice how to get a large machine functioning (from 220 to 120). I have a step-down transformer that is large enough to do the job but isn't. I've researched enough to know it's a tall order... and will appreciate any help whatsoever.

  7. Warorot Market has a couple of shops deep within that sell posters at reasonable prices. Many are the educational/cultural style but they also have larger format selection of landscapes. Wish I could pinpoint the location for you.

  8. I'm going to be cancelling an appointment in November I can't use. If anyone needs it, pm me and we can coordinate. I don't live on this site so no offence if it takes me a few days to get back.

Apropos of that, it's silly to pay someone to do the leg work, but my window in December is limited and I would prefer not to rise at 5am to join the queue. Can a service "cut the problem"?
