  1. if you are painting a house then dont use TOA it is low on pigment so takes more coats to get a good finish!!!

the TOA epxoy paints have advantages if you want to do a cheap epoxy floor as it is a very thin paint with good pigment so a little goes a long way.

    dont even go near Nippon!!!!

I personaly use Jotan it covers well high pigment good finish and you can get the colors mixed at most places,

if you are getting a house painted remember to get your paint from the same machine, dont go to different stores to get the same color as you will find that the machines can vary a little with the mixes.

there is a great paint place under the BTS at Thong Lo

  2. 5 kw is more than big enough, I ran my house on that for a couple of years that included using a welder, you dont need a massive beast of a welder to do your roof A frames, as stated above 120 amp is big enough and you can run that on a 5kw,

  3. I think this is the basics

it is to do with the system being set up to have nuetral/earth as anything metal, with a 3 pin plug this cant be reversed, but with a 2 pin plug you can find that you can now have a phase going to the body/metal parts. add a mic on a different system and you now have a phase nuetral circuit with you as the load.

if you get a tingle of anything try putting the plug in the other way round.

in saying that try sorting out an earth system!

  4. after doing a LOT of painting i Thailand I have found that Jotun seems to be the best.

Nippon suxs in my book, this is why, the red pigment is to light, and the paint does not flow and relax to remove brush strokes ect.

4 coats of nippon red and it still needed another 2 coats and looked BAD

2 coats of Jotun and job done !!!

the problem is the base they use, nippon use a base with less white so does not cover as well.

ICI is good but I still like to stick with Jotun and after about 300 liters of paint in Thailand I am happy with this brand!

as for the cost of the job, wait untill you employ the staff and see how many days it takes and the quality of the 250 baht a day labor, you do get what you pay for in many ways in Thailand.

add to that the tools needed ladders brushes, rollers, scrapers, float, wire brushes ect.

If you have the time do it yourself, if not find some people who care about there work, and at 250 baht a day dont expect them to care to much!

  5. I just had the same problem in a bar, after earthing still the band were getting shocks, in the end the problem was simple, the amp did not have an earth pin this allowed the plug to be put in the wrong way round, the result was that the guitar was live and the shock would come through earthing on the mic.

try reversing your amp plug, better yet if you get a 25 baht test lamp screwdriver you can then check if the socket is wired correctly.

  6. no this will not give you a good weld!!!!

    stainless uses dc

    aluminum uses Ac

there is a massive difference in welding aluminum!!! you need to use a rounded electrode and then with your filler rod control the arch. this is two handed control of the arch where stainless is very simple!!

an easy way around this is to find some "techno weld" it is classed as a weld but you only need to achive a temp of 350 c meaning you can do this with a standard plumbers tourch.

you tin (coat) both surfaces then heat and press together, this weld is in many cases stronger than a TIG weld.

    I hopes this helps

I was in a past life a coded TIG welder on stainless pressure vessels and pipe work. so was classed as an advanced welder, as for welding aluminum that is a true art form!!!! personaly I kept some techno weld in my tool box for those moments when a weld was needed!! I know snap on use to stock it, dont know where in Thailand you would get it though

Anyone proficient in TIG welding on stainless should be able to turn down the amps on their machine, and using a long, thin strip of the aluminum you're welding (for the same alloy, for good bonding.) just do the same thing they do with stainless. If they did one test weld, they would probably have it down. (Amps WAY down)
  7. I am supprised at some of the postings on this thread,

If thaksin ever does got back into power here in Thailand then there should be some worried people!!!

anyone that think Thaksin is finished and wash up should open there eyes, afterall the present govt are hel_l bent to get him. why?

money talks in Asia, and Thaksin has money and friends!!

I bet there are some worried businessmen right now in Thailand and I bet there is about to be some happy businessmen as well.

a few simple words from an advisor, like "good man" or "bad man" is the difference of making business or not, take the oil factor, so now Thaksin has a hand in that one, again!!!

to many people under estimate the man, remember there are a lot of wealthy and powerful people that do respect Thaksin, and they are about to have a very good foot in the door for business across the bourder, and others are about to get the door slamed in there faces.

the one product that makes trillions of dollars and can cause wars........OIL

maybe the present govt should chill out a we bit and try to work with the man, this could be a great advantage for them or it could be a massive dwon fall depending on how it is played.

what ever happens Thaksin is going to be around for a while yet!!

we have not heard the last of him

  8. it is against regulation to stop your meter !!!! but it can be done, high voltage or low voltage it doesnt matter you can still use swer. like I put in my post it is not legal, but it does work!!!

as for safety, here is a thought for you how is it more dangerous?? I think standard thai wiring would be classed as more dangerous!!!

by earthing your neutral you are in fact making them the same line, the only difference it where the return current goes after the load center, in this case not throught the meter. regulation and physics are two different things!!!

the physics of SWER are the same as using your earth as a return path.

the trick that is used to tweek a meter is to add extra heavy duty earth rods!!

as for lighting up Elsie's teets I have read a few things about that, this would imply that the current flows through the dirt like a river and takes the least line of resistance, and at time it was good old Elsie that had the least line of resistance for those few feet !!

  9. I had a husky puppy that had major problems with red mange, after spending stupid money at the vets and not listening to the farmers I at last opened my ears BIG TIME.

the vet was charging me for ivomec, it is cattle drench, and what a price they were charging!!!!

ok so my pup gets another bloom of the dreded red mange so I call the vet and as for them to make me up some meds, well the answer to that was no we have to see the dog, I said no way just give me the meds it is the same as last time, the nurse then says we cant issue controled drugs to your animal without seeing it first.

well I informed her again that it was the same as before and all I wanted was 100 ml of ivomec, well I got the same answer, so I went to the farm supply shop and purchased 1 liter of ivomec then walked into to the vets, well I had a few words with them asking for ivomec and was told no it was a controled drug, so I dumped a liter on the desk and told them it was not as I had just purchased this next door. I also informed them that they would never see my busines again.

the happy ending is that she has grown out of it now, I feel it was the vacinations. the messed with her imune system, agfter that we never gave her vacinations and she is healthy and still going strong, just living with the x-wife in NZ.

so for mange if it is that, get some ivomec!! it also kills fleas, ticks, worms and it is good enough to give to animals that are designed for us to eat!!! great stuff and well worth giving your dogs!! I use to keep it hanging up with a drench gun, put down the food and grab the gun, all you need to do is then squrit som in the dogs mouth

  10. FANTASTIC!!!!!!

I am lost for words that was a great video, I hope that you have put the details on youtube in the description, key word it up and that will put a smile on hundreds of thousands of faces, I am about to email this tread to my mother and father who know the park well, I am going to sugest they start taking his classes!!!

  11. this is a little freaky!!!!

ok so two guys are not wearing a shirt whilst in the park and they are feeding the fish. hmmmm

ok call me a red neck but what is wrong with that in Thailand??????

here in Thailand you will find that most Thais dont mind that type of thing, many people will take of there shirt when relaxing.

let me tell you of a thing that shocked ONLY me.

I was at a friends house with a group, now we had been on an all night bender and we were sitting outside, the sun had just come up and we were still drinking, the house we were at was on the bangkok river.

there I am bleary eyed and drunk when I see an old lady walk down to the water take of her top and go for a dip in the river, yes a topless old lady in the river, well it seems that I was the only one that was shocked.

this had been her home for many decades and she was taking the morning wash/swim. and in bearing her upper body was nothing out of the ordernary.

I suggest that you take a closer look at thai life, it is classed as rude and perverted to film people like this!!!

suggestion for you, do go around filming topless people as next you will be filming woman breast feeding!!!

now you are dam lucky that was not me in the park as you would have a major problem!!!! time for you to get down off your high horse and sit with some of the locals on the ground and eat. by locals I mean the poor people!

Thai people are not offended by this type of thing in a park, if you look close (Not Film) you will see thais doing the same if you go to the country you will see lots of men wearing what look to be skirts and have not tops on!!!!

They are not gay men topless, that is a national form of clothing, I dont know the Thai name but it is basicly a sorong.

wake up a look at the flowers

  12. ok the center pic is of the open door it is the back of the meters.

the right hand pic is the inside of the cabinate behind the meters, the blue units are the coils for measuring the amps, the mains wires go through these coils.

this is just some of the things we have in stock about the place, it is interesting what you collect over time, we have quite a lot of three phase stuff about.

  13. I love how so many people have found this guy guilty already.

not things went bad with the bank, he was an advisor, well he was out of the country, please correct me if I am wrong but he is not Thai???

I wonder how many of the people that were guilty pointed the finger at him???

advisors dont normaly get to sign the checks or transfer the money!!!!

as for his day in court, we will wait to see as I can see something along the lines of a plea bargin going on here, I bet he does not so much of have dirt on people but more of a sespool of information!!!

I for one will wait and see before I class him guilty, after all I would like to think that all are inosent untill proven guilty. to many people here judge and exacute people I hope they never get to do jury duty!!!

this will be a fair trial bring in the guilty!!!

  14. this is an interesting one!!

I am going to leave this reply up to the others as they have lots more experience with village systems!

I have seen just the other day a neutral wire lighting up a neon test lamp, I have now seen this on two systems, one in an apartment that when all the safety cut and the mains breaker were off the neon was lighting up on the neutral.

this was tripping the safety cut, some wonderful Thai sparky had taken the money to install a new safety cut then found that it kept tripping so set it to direct, wow that worked!!!!

the end result to this is was that a neutral fualt in the wiring where another apartment has its neutral wired to this board, the whole 5 story block is a mess!!

the apartment managers were saying that this is one of the only old buildings about the place that has an earth system, this had me laughing my but off, yes it has an earth system there was the main earth wire going to the load center but there was not one wire contected to the earth bar!

welcome to the world of Thai electrical systems!

  15. I think the western world is starting to learn that it cant fight these things, there is to much demand from the people.

it will be the ecconomics and the change of generations that in the end make the world accept and control as opposed to try to ban drugs.

where there is demand someone will always supply if the price is right.

if the illegal drug trade is changed to a legal govt regulated trade then what will happen to the criminal based suppliers?? they would turn legit overnight and start paying taxes!!!

they wouldnt want to loose there business, so they would accept a lower proffit margin and produce drugs legaly (less cost with that as well)

dont get me wrong I am not 100% pro drugs, I feel that a lot of drugs on the streets are BAD!!

in NZ we have "P" known also as "ice" this stuff is nastey it is called "fry" as it frys you brain, but still people love the stuff, but the price is shocking!!! it has started a whole new crime wave in NZ.

we cant stop this stuff, but we could control it, I look at history and remember stories of opium dens, where people could go to smoke, maybe we need somethng similar now days, were there can be monitoring of the people and the substances.

it seems that countries dont learn from history, the alcohol prohibition in the states, that did not stp drinking it just drove it underground and into the hand of the criminal gangs. is this not what we have today???

but now we have laws in place that help to control alcohol, why? because the USA govt found that it could not stop alcohol and the cost to try and stop it was to high.

how much time and money do drugs cost the tax payers, how often do you hear that drug use is on the rise.

how much is the international war on drugs costing??

imagine if that cost was turned around and made into a proffit from tax, there would be enough money saved to offer massive stimilus packages and feed the starving in the world.

Americans spend $60 billion a year to imprison 2.2 million people that is just the cost to house them, add the court and lawyer fees and I would say it would end up being a massive sum, ok not all of these people are there for drug related offences but I bet a good few are.

Arrests for drug law violations in 2009 are expected to exceed the 1,841,182 arrests of 2007. Law enforcement made more arrests for drug abuse violations (an estimated 1.8 million arrests, or 13.0 percent of the total number of arrests) than for any other offense in 2007.

Someone is arrested for violating a drug law every 17 seconds.

Since December 31, 1995, the U.S. prison population has grown an average of 43,266 inmates per year. About 25 per cent are sentenced for drug law violations.

According to the Schaffer Library of Drug Policy, it costs approximately $450,000 to put a single drug dealer in jail. This cost includes the costs of arrest, conviction, room, and board.

These number go on and on, the more you look the more you see that by having drugs illegal it costs the tax payers of the world TRILLIONS.

could this money not be spent in better ways??

yes and in time it will, but change take time, I still have a personal laugh at "giving back Hong Kong" why did the UK have it in the first place?? because china tried to stop the drug trade and UK was not having any of that so it took over hong kong and reinstated the drug dealers, after all if they couldnt buy the opium then how could the english have there cup of Tea???

it was under 100 years ago that the UK were pro drugs, now it is anti, it is slowly changing again with pot, so give things another 10 years and it will be starting to swing back towards pro drugs, it is a crazy world that we live in but remember it is made crazy by the people...... ALL OF US!!

  16. I have a second hand one here, it is designed for three phase, you can switch the meters to different phases to view the volts and amps. it also has three lights that show that the three phases are working.

it has been set up to take a 30 pole Square D load center in it. I will take a pic and post it soon for you, and your sparky is right there is some extra wiring in there that allows for the switching and loads. will post pics of that too for you

  17. hmmmm all this is fine but lets get real people GO SOLAR!!!!

when you look at water heating and the cost it is better to look at a solar system, one install cost and then free hotwater!

ok they are not cheap to buy, but hey when you think of what you get in return then they are great!!!!

when looking at a system dont be cheap, buy a good one and you will have hot water all year round!

no I am not selling solar system, I just know with the sun we have here in thailand verse NZ solar is a lot better way to go than paying the power company money, and after all they get some of there energy from the solar farms that they have built!!!

  18. just to add some info in this,

if you loose you arrivial card then you can go to the point where it was issued and they can search for the records.

the other thing is if you are standing there with the 20k in hand then as a rule there is not a problem.

I was involved with a overstay case where the person had the money and all the papers for a work permit, it was a border crossing to get the non imagrant B visa, well the immagration official would not let the person cross the border!!

told them to go and get a visa for Loas, they were informed that a visa was not needed due to the nationality of the person and the passport.

well the guy was not having any of that !!!! because the person had overstayed a couple of time in the past, he was saying that Loas would not accept him, so was told to go away and get a visa.

to cut a long story short a couple of phone calls and the man went from being power tripping to very helpful and stamped the passport and took the money.

so this to was a cass of being an overstayer with the money in had and been told to go away and sort further documents.

had me laughing in the long run as here was the person with the 20k, wanting to pay the money, but was not allowed to leave the country, so much for the locked up idea!!!
