  1. I too have Jinet here in Pattaya

    512/256 for 2600 Bt.

    Is it good?

For this country....... or at least this city, "Yes, it is good."

New to the forum, new to the area, I live across Sukhumvit off Soi Khao Talo. Have exhausted myself looking for an ISp and service proviser. Tried going to TOT office and got more confused. using 1222 is a real expierence but not a solution. Your mention of Jinet sounds interesting, where is the office located? I didn't find it it the directories nor could I get more information regarding where it might be so I could ask. Using the LOX dial up cards for now. Thanks.

  2. Sawatdee khap pet lovers. Has anyone over there ever imported a pet parrot? I'm soon to be moving over with a retirement visa and have been put through a wringer getting my parrot over. I know all there is to know except having chatted with anyone who actually did get a bird over! I know all the basic rules and restrictions and yes all about the bird flu. I've had this buzzard for 29 years, he served with me on a mountain top back during my Army days. We've heard every excuse to blame him for any foreign flu or loss of classified materials over the years. I'm looking for information from anyone who recently flew into BKK with a pet and what they expierenced. If you've got a story or advise not found through normal channels, please share them with me... Khap Khun khrap mak! Charlie

  3. Love this forum, learned a lot about buying a truck. "Khap khun khrap mak" to all those who replied and shared helpful information. Hope to not get skinned alive when I walk in prepared. Was just at an auto lot with a friend buying his car and the sales persons were a bunch of lovely ladies. This too was new to me. They let us know right away that they were niether incentives nor "extras'"! ;^{D

  4. Dee-tee-sood, meaning, "best" I found and is my Thai Bible, The Conversation Dictionary of the Thai Language by Knun Wit Thiengburanathum, Ph.D. English-Thai, Thai-English. I used ti with my AUA studies at the university and it got me through my homework! My teacher bought it for me and several other students however if you go on Amazon the ISBN 974 245 656 9 might help. The cover is Black, Red and Yellow striped.

  5. I'm new to digital but found the Nikon CoolPix series very reliable, versital and dependable. Not withstanding economical. I came to knowing about the CoolPix at a forum on EBAY, online shopping. It's been a great camera and if you get an HP photo printer, you're your own film service center. I paid about 8k Baht. Good luck

  6. Recently retired and will be moving to Pattaya in November. I rented a nice place and definitely need wheels. I want to shop smart but haven't heard all the options. I'd feel safer in a truck so you need a space cab. I like Izuzu and Toyota. If you buy new does it make a difference in price whether you buy in Pattaya or Bangkok? I heard there's a hassle with "red plates" and where it's registered, you have to go back to purchase origin to re-register? What's all that about? Also it was mentioned that "all" the dealers have the same base price, it's the added extras, like bed liner, tinted glass, automatic, stuff like that where you get your best deal. I want diesel vs gasoline, auto vs manual and just enough engine to haul 2 dogs, a Thai lady and myself. Would someone please describe the process when buying and what to expect when dealing for an auto. Thanks

  7. This has been a great forum for expats to get information, thanks for having such a web site. In 99 days I turn 50 yrs old, and I'm bringing two dogs and a parrot into Thailand on a type O-A Retirement Visa. I'll apply for the visa here in the states the day after my birthday. I found a drirect flight out of Los Angeles to Bangkok on Thai Airways, all the others transfer planes. The dogs have to go cargo and the parrot can ride under my seat, or so I have been told. It's a 17+ hr run so needless to say I'm nervous for the dogs. The parrot has been with me since the end of the Viet Nam war and served with me in NATO. By the way, he came to Europe via a wooden box from Brazil with a shitload of other birds, most were likely dead! What expierences have some of you had, if any with bringing in a pet and what forms of transportation did you use? When I brought the parrot into the US back in the seventies we had "Parrot Fever" going around, no shit! It took reams of paperwork in triplicate, luckily I was used to havin more paperwork than I needed from the military! ;^{D If you have pets, what advise could you share... Khap Khun! Charlie

  8. :o I like gold jewelry. They sell it everywhere, but how do you shop for it. It's by weight, it's valued by 1,2 and so on baht, but what does that really mean? Last trip I bought a nice gold necklace and matching bracelet. Now I want to upgrade to a larger size and weight. Can someone explain if all the shops are equal in prices? How the trade in works and should you? How do you know if it's a reasonable price, and what cities are best to shop in? I thought a golden topic would dampen all the recent sad events. If you're a gold lover too... Thanks.
  9. Logic would be that when shipping household goods you wouldn't send drugs, guns flamible items... But what about your collection of PLayboys, Videos and DVDs. Are there little unknown restrictions until it's too late that one should know? I'd ask the shipper but that would be putting the shipping before the visa...

  10. Various visas require a savings amount in order to apply new or renew your visa. My question to anyone who has done so, how do you legally get the required amounts of monies into Thailand without violating any currency rules. To clarify, if you need $20k US in the bank, and the limit you can carry in is $10k, do you bring a certified US bank draft and will they accept it at say, Thai Farmers Bank to open an account? My goal is to apply for the type O visa upon my 50th birthday in November. I thought to make a short run on a tourist visa and set up my banking. Open to suggestions and advise.
