  1. So what you are saying then that a Parent cannot legally remove a child without the other Parents consent. So if I decided to take my boy fishing, and the wife didn't agree, I could have Police waiting for me when I came back and charged with Child Abduction?..

Obviously taking a child fishing is not the same as moving away permanently with the child to another place.

The child has been physically removed from his mother, 24/7, since last March. Hardly analogous to a "fishing trip". And yes, it does qualify as parental abduction since the intent and effect has been to change where the child lives against the other parent's wishes.

Yes I am from the USA & to travel with a minor Internationally requires both parents consent.

I am not sure about UK laws but I would be surprised if something similar doesn't exist

Letter of Consent for International Travel

The U.S. Department of State suggests that a parent who plans to travel abroad without the child's other parent obtain a letter of consent. The entry and departure requirements for travelers often vary from one airport to another and from one destination to another. Under some circumstances, an airline employee or immigration official may ask to see signed consent from the child's other parent before allowing a child to leave the country.

Consequences of Travel without Parental Consent

If a divorced parent takes a child out of the country without the other parent's consent, the other parent may be able to open an international parental child abduction case. The U.S. Department of State handles international child kidnapping through the Office of Children's Issues. In addition, a custodial parent may need to file a local police report and ask law enforcement to enter the minor's information into the National Crime Information Center, a federal database. The parent may also benefit from consulting with a family law attorney about enforcing the custody terms of the divorce decree.

I have traveled two times to the states with my son 4 years old without his mother and without the mother's consent. Without any problem the last time in June of this year.

  2. Gins Travel in Chiang Saen also can book the boat for you and provide help with getting passport in the day before. They also can help with you going thru Laos if need be. I was suppose to go on boat last week however the boat was canceled due to low water. So went thru Laos instead. Boat is around Y800 one way with Laos trip less than 1/2 that depending on if you have to get visa to enter Laos.

I plan to leave about the 2nd week of March. It sounds like I may have a problem if the water level is too low. I was going to take the boat to avoid paying for a Laos visa. If I have to get one, then I may as well go to China by bus from Huay Xai.

I was confused by your answer. Did you go to thru Laos by bus or boat? If you went by bus, can you give me details?

You can call Chiang Saen Tour and travel @081-993-2425 tp get info about the boat. I took the boat from Chiang Saen to Xishuangbanna the end of January. The cost was3500 baht. It left at about 5:00am. Because of the river level was so low it had to stop about 2.5 hours from Xishuangbnna. Then take a bus the rest of the way to Xishuangbanna. It was a nice boat ride.

Welcome Seattlite; I lived and worked in Seattle for 5 years and recently moved (early retired) in Thailand.

First, on the USA airline front you have several choices:

    1. UAL: SEA-BKK (direct flight, transit in Narita Japan) point to point takes 20 hours

    2. NW/DELTA: SEA-BKK (direct flight, transit in Narita Japan) point to point takes 20 hours

    Second front:

    1) EVA Airlines (SEA-Taipei-BKK): check website for more info as time tables changes

    2) Korean Airlines (SEA-Incheon-BKK): check website for more info as time tables changes

    3) Asiana Airlines (SEA-Incheon-BKK): check website for more info as time tables changes

listed are some choices you can make back to Seattle. airfare pricing may be higher on the website at this time

due in part of the uncertainties of fuel pricing, seat capacities in that direction. If you choose to buy now and

the price goes down, it'll be difficult to get an adjustment on a restrictive ticket.

yes, your friend is correct about EVA, they do have a flight into Seattle however I think it is not a daily

flight therefore you may have gotten a error type message for the days inputted.

*again prices will vary from time to time on the website - you have to monitor them closely starting today!

    goodluck

Thanks for the information. Slight correction. I live in Thailand and will be flying to Seattle, then returning to Bangkok. I will take a look at these airlines. Any suggestions out there on a travel agent?

  4. Hi , Have decided to rent car in CR , Explore north and then travel along eastern mountain range taking in Phu Chi Fa and then onto Phayao arriving in Phitsanulok .Five days in total

Am looking for rental companys that facilitate Chiang Rai pick up and Phitsanulok drop off.

I know budget & Avis acommodate this arrangement . Both charge xtra 3000bts for different pick up/drop off points. When factoring this into pricing it will cost approx 2100 bts per day .

Anyone know of any other companys who might facilitate my requirement cheaper. Thanks
