  1. Having purchased some expensive insurance from BUPA, the aim was purely and simply that in the event of an emergency no matter which hospital we had to go to, the insurance would cover us and our fate not held in the hands of a bunch of accountants. Yesterday my partner had the need to be admitted to PI hospital, but were told that they do not accept BUPA any more as BUPA had not met various payments.

No biggy this time, but not what we want to hear if I had been mangled by a pick up on Sukhumvit.

The doctor went as far as to say they have problems with BUPA and some American companies.

So I post this as a warning to my fellow expats, and secondly anyone know of a reliable insurance company that provides a good medical policy!

In recent weeks I have discovered the same thing hospitals do not take Bupa as any kind of insurance to payment and will require you to pay for anything first .

Bangkok Hospital and Phuket International have both told me personally that Bupa insurance fails to pay more than they successfully pay .

I would also point out that even if they take the time to consider the claim they will require paperwork and four weeks to carry out checks when they do consider the claim . They have actually told me that "pre existing condition " could even be a heart attack as it had taken years to occur . I ask everyone how on earth can a heart attack be a pre existing condition ?

I leave you to draw your own conclusions as to the value of such insurance , like the above post who else is there ?

  2. Hi All,

Looking for genuine advice please! I m 60, 61 in November and just got my BUPA Medical Insurance renewal notice. Last year (60) it cost 22,700 for the Emerald package, the one most people take, I think, but next year, as I will be 61, the annual fee goes up from 22,700 to 31,400!! The irony is that in 3 years of membership I havent made a single claim, being a normally fit healthy guy but problem is, you dont know whats around the corner, do you?

An increase of this proportion just because I m 60 one day and 61 the next is ridiculous and I m not going to pay it!

Questions. 1. They offer a "Ruby" package, one step down, but quite a bit cheaper, 21,700 for 60+ instead of 31,400 but is it enough to cover, say, a medical emergency?

    2. Is there any good competitive alternative to BUPA without leaving myself at risk?

Thanks in advance for any advice/ guidance.

Bupa dont pay anyway so save your money , sadly Thailand has a very bad medical system if you are sick and can go home ..DO SO

  3. BUPA THAILAND ARE THE SAME AS ANY USA INSURANCE COMPANY >>> THEY NEVER PAY OUT

Bupa Thailand are a complete con .. I am 47 years old and have never seen a doctor about six months ago I needed to see a doctor for stomach problems .

I went to bangkok hospital and asked about bupa and paying .. They said Bupa dont pay .. I went to phuket international and they said ..Bupa dont pay ... I had a consultation anyway and have had the policy for nine months so I insisted that the cost of a endoscopy internal inspection be claimed from Bupa .

Bupas answer ... We will need to do a medical background check and we will need SIX SEEKS to complete it ..

First they don't cover you for the first month then when you claim they want SIX weeks to do a check .

I was in pain and they could not care less . I had the top Platinum Policy and they still wanted six weeks to do a check .

They after plenty of communication now ignore my requests , I have recovered as it was a minor problem

But they actually told me even a heart attack would be checked .." for pre existing condition " will someone tell me how a heart attack could be anything other than a pre existing condtion it takes years to clog your veins .

They are not worth a cent, get insurence from you home country ..ASK ANY HOSPITAL IF BUPA PAY.. They have to many gets outs for it to be worth the paper its written on.
