In GMapTool it says the map file contains multiple products and doesn't produce the promised .bat file to import the maps into mapsource.
Try this:
- Add IMG into GMapTool.
- At Split Page, select Create: single maps. Specify a fresh empty folder, and then select Split Selected.
- At Files page, remove added IMG (from step 1) so that there is no IMG listed there. Next add all files from split folder except MAPSOURC.MPS. At Join page, specify Output File, and tick Set mapset FID, key in 57 for FID, and 1 for PID. Then select Join All.
- Finally use this re-packed IMG, instead of the original IMG when splitting using the original instructions posted above.

It depends on the unlock codes generated for the map. If the codes were generated based on Nuvi's Unit ID, then the map would only work in that particular Nuvi, regardless whether it is installed in Nuvi's memory or Nuvi's data card. If the codes were generated based on the data card's Card ID, and the map is installed in the data card, the card would work in any supported Garmin devices.

The good thing about this newer models, there is little possibility that the preloaded maps would be overwritten (since they are now stored in a hidden system folder). Any transfered map excluding Garmin official update for preloaded map will be written into \Garmin or \Map folder, not \.System folder where the preloaded maps reside.
-
Yeah, right. However below comment does not apply to this model.
If you are handy with a computer and want to play with the Garmin 1390T memory, then you can install the Thailand map file into the internal memory but you may have to delete a map depending on how many maps are installed now.
-
For those interested, here are the names of Garmin nuvi map files:
Not all the map files can be used on the memory card.
-
gmapsupp.img - maps you download, can be both internal and external on a SD card. This name is quite common, and it means you can copy it into your GPS internal memory or memory card.
- gmapprom.img - built in maps like City Navigator, only internal
- gmapprom1.img - built in extra maps, only internal. City Navigator EU and US need two files
- gmapbmap.img - base map file, can only be internal (on the GPS device)
- gmapoem.imb - OEM maps, only internally
Much of the above do not apply to newer 4-digit Nuvi models such as TS's Nuvi1390T. With the newer models:
- \Garmin folder in internal memory no longer store any map (any IMG file placed here will not be recognized).
- Preloaded maps are stored in Nuvi:\.System folder which is a hidden system folder (will not appear in Windows Exporer with default settings).
- Multiple IMG maps are supported in both internal memory and data card. IMG map files need to be placed in \Map folder and they can be named anything as long as the IMG extension is used, ie. they can have more meaningful names such as Thailand.IMG, Malaysia.IMG, etc. By default this folder is not available in most (newer) Nuvis. Usually the folder is created if a map has been transfered from Mapsource. If the folder is not available in Nuvi or data card, just create a New Folder at the root directory and label it as Map.
- \Garmin folder in data card is still recognized as a map folder, but as with previous Nuvi models, only recognizes GMAPSUPP.IMG.

Sorry for not being clear. I was actually replying to Digitalbanana who is using Garmin Mobile XT (in data card). Since the navigation software runs off the data card, it's not possible to swap the card with a Garmin map data card. The only way to install maps is to copy maps into GMXT's data card. And GMapTool will come in handy when there are more than 3 IMG map files to install.
-
And if you have more IMG map files than the unit can allow, several IMG files can be combined into a single IMG using a utility called GMapTool.
-
Nevertheless the GPX or KML can be converted to IMG using this utility: http://www.malsingma...php?f=25&t=6369 (I believe you need to be registered and logged in first, to be able to download the attachment).Unfortunately even with that hack I mentioned am not sure the Nuvi 200W would be able to load tracks such as the ones I have put up on the internet here : http://cmhike.com/20...ark-we-know-of/
The IMG can then be used in most Garmin units including Nuvis.
-
Why don't you get a waterproof, multi-mode (drive, hike, bike or boat) Nuvi500 series instead? While other Nuvi models are able to view Garmin Bluechart marine maps as well, any features relating to marine use is not supported.

If you're referring to the 25-char unlock code, the answer is yes.

I'm very confused with this and it seem impossible to have the two TSM Thailand maps installed and be able to switch between them
A Garmin device is unable to read more than 1 mapset which are using the same Family ID (FID). A workaround to this problem is to manually edit the second map's FID using a utility called GMapTool. Once both mapsets have different FID's, the device will recognize them as separate mapsets.
-
Is it really possible to install TSM in GPS devices other than Garmin as I thought TSM is exclusively for Garmin?
Even if it's possible, does it effects the effectiveness of TSM?
They must've been referring to a hacked version of Garmin Mobile XT (GMXT) which can run in a WinCE device. The TSM map offered might be an illegit copy as well. I have some experience using GMXT in a China made GPS WinCE unit, and after a while decided to sell off and got a real Garmin (Nuvi) instead.

As for me, it all goes down to map availability, as well as it's detailedness and accuracy, and from my experience using Garmin in a few countries, I can say that Garmin maps are excellent.
-
No, it's not possible to transfer the map to another data card, since it is a locked map and the unlock codes embedded in it corresponds only to the original card ID. In other words this map would not be unlocked when used in another data card. The workaround is to generate (illegit) codes for the new card (Card ID) or for your Nuvi (Unit ID), so that the map will be unlocked.
-
The difference would not be more than 1 meter.
-
Also, I'm interested in learning if there is a school of thought that explains the decimal vs degree-minute-seconds GPS coordinate format or is it basically the old 'Metric - English system' divide?
Yes, you are correct. 60 seconds =1 minute, and 60 minutes = 1 Degree.
For example N17.79925 = N17 Degree, 0.79925 x 60 Min = N17 Degree, 47.955 Min = N17 Degree, 47 Min, 0.955 x 60 Sec = N17 Degree, 47 Min, 57.3 Sec.

According to Garmin Thailand StreetMap v10.1 NT map - Khao Kaeo, Khao Kaeo Municipal Office, Khao Kaeo Subdist. Office and Tambon Khao Kaeo Public Service Center are located somewhere here: N17.79925 E101.73122

However, it's not advisable to send maps using this mapset in Mapsource (user data such as route is fine).

Hi Cobra, here're the steps to generate an installer for Mapsource from compiled IMG:
- First you need to download and install GMapTool and cGPSmapper (both are free).
- At GMapTool Options page, point to "cgpsmapper.exe" (refer image below).
- At Files page add IMG file.
- At Split page, browse and select folder to split files to, select "Create: files for Mapsource", tick "Compile preview map", click "Split selected".
- IMG should have been successfully split with all necessary files saved at the selected folder (check log for errors, if any).
- Browse to split folder and run "install.bat" (and follow the instruction to proceed with installation) to install mapset into Mapsource. Once installed, the folder/files should not be moved/deleted. Later if needs to be uninstalled, run "uninstall.bat".
Note:
- However, by using this method, "Find Places" feature (in Mapsource) will be disabled, and only "Find Nearest Places" (for POIs) would work when using this mapset.
- If you are using a locked IMG file (which I assume is associated with a legit unlock code), the same unlock code for device needs to be used in Mapsource to unlock the mapset.
-
Actually it's possible to install the IMG into Mapsource as a map product, no matter if it's a legit or a hacked one. The utility to achieve this is GMapTool, available here:Pliki/Download: GMapTool, Nutrak However, the address search feature of the map would not be functional in Mapsource, although other searches like POIs and cities are possible.

Yes, ESRI map should work with GVN53. If it's available in SD card, you can purchase it and just "plug n play".
For City Navigator® Southeast Asia NT in SD card, you can purchase it here: City Navigator Southeastern Asia NT -

I've found a pretty neat free app that can upload satellite images as "custom maps" for use in supported Garmin handhelds, it's called "Mobile Atlas Creator 1.7", available here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/trekbuddya...tor/MOBAC%201.7
And here's a guide for uploading maps: http://gpsteam.eu/guide/MOBAC_KMZ/MOBAC_GarminKMZ.htm

Yes, I managed to upload some Garmin BirdsEye satellite imagery onto my Dakota 20. However since I've not yet subscribed to the paid service, I can just upload low res image with a limited size for now. First thing you should check is the firmware the device is running, because only latter versions support that particular feature, ie. for Dakota it's v2.80 and up.

You're welcome. I hope I've got the location right.

To continue with the simulation setup, the "Set Loc" or "Loc" option needs to be selected after the location is displayed on the map. Also, an alternative method to specifying the location to simulate other than entering the coordinates is by panning the map to the preferred location, and then selecting the location by placing the pointer on it. Having a world base map is particularly helpful in this situation.
