  1. I have been permanently in Thailand since 2006 on an extension based on marriage. Last month I decided to renew extension based on retirement. Went along on my own to imm. with p/p photos, bank letter and bank book copies, utility bill in my name and copy of house book. Took about 10 minutes, Much easier than marriage ext. Drawbacks seem to be you need to have Bt800K in bank instead of Bt400K and I understand difficulties could arise if you wished to work in Thailand.

  2. I purchased a gun a few years ago - the procedure which UKChatterbox described (#27) is correct. You do not need to notify the police. I have approval to carry the weapon but would not carry it in town. I understand things have become more difficult in recent years and permits are not so readily granted nowadays. If you carry the gun with you it should not be loaded.

  3. I was in the same quandry as the op about 8 years ago when I was moving to Thailand. I went for the purchase route and bought a 4 bdrm det. house in a suburban moo ban for about the equivalent of GBP28,000. Similar properties now sell for around GBP100,000 and we live in a house to our taste within a good secure community. I have also purchased farming land and built a farmhouse about 40km away and it is also a good investment. The best investments for quality of life and return on investment that I have made.

I am now negotiating to buy a commercial building with some apartments for Bt8mil. IMHOP purchasing is the way to go but renting is certainly a cheap route. I wouldn't buy to rent in Thailand.

  4. They would have had there money by now if the PTP had paid them when they said they would. 4 months ago!! This is a true indication of the contempt the PTP actually have for the poor. Actions usually speak loader than words unless of course your a UDD supporter in which case rhetoric speaks loader than actions.

What on earth are you talking about - the rice wasn't even harvested 4 months ago!

The rice has been sitting in warehouses for years. Payments to farmers are overdue by six to nine months long before the parliament was dissolved. The reason it is in warehouses is because the government has been unable to sell much of it.

The farmers WERE paid for previous harvests. The only harvest they haven't been paid for is the one that fnished mid December 2013.

  6. Advice computer shop sell them www.advice.co.th . They are located in Sisaket just south of Nona bar, turn left at traffic lights, 100m on the right. However, I have bought from E-Bay, better equipment at lower prices.

  7. The floods in Sisaket seem to follow on 2-3 days after my farm is flooded in Prank Khu. The water has risen again at my farm so it will probably rise in Sisaket too over the next couple of days.

I had lunch with Belgian Willie today - he is talking about staying in Sisaket again.

  8. I have a farm in Prang Khu and whilst there are floods to some extent most years, but I have seen nothing like this. Fast flowing water is up to 2 meters deep on my rice fields and roads are being washed away. A few Crocs are a minor fear - there are many snakes on any high ground which isn't inundated.
