  1. Its a big relief to hear ( read ) your discerning words. We've worked with a lot of NES without much trouble but this year, we were not lucky. The agencies should really train and orient them before sending them to schools.

The thought of meeting and working again with this kind of NES ( newbies; "know it all"; "I'm king of English" kind )next term is dreadful. (The school wants the NES stay for a year because the school paid for the WP) :(

The American is only a substitute teacher - - the British and Irish thought the test came from him because he teaches that subject-- they had a grand time editing the paper :D ( the test was done by a former American teacher and a Filipino teacher )

Thank you to all. My faith in the NES sprung back to life..... it died when the Irish guy can't produce the performance records of his students because nobody told him to record the attendance of the students or record/ give grades for their classroom work.

  2. As a non NES, we accept corrections from a NES or from those knowledgeable enough. And believe me, we've been edited/corrected many times. The different NES opinions concern us because we are open to these knowledge -- old or new. We've known for some time that its "do aerobics" and here they go saying its incorrect. So we tend to doubt the "learning" we had back then. Will it change again if another NES comes to work for us and say it another way?

It's a bit offensive too when they laugh at the test they are editing and mock the contents of the test-- as if their way is the correct way. Putting remarks like "ambiguous", "untrue", " no such thing", "this test is full of apple products" --- do not really help us.

  3. the question was:

In most western countries, people greet each other with a ______. ( 1. wai 2. handshake 3. gifts 4. note )

Actually, an American teacher made the test then the Filipino- Assistant Head gave the test paper to the assigned Irish and British NES for editing/checking. They also remarked that "take aerobics" is correct than "do aerobics". Is this a matter of AmE and BrE issue?

  4. Beano, you are correct, however, I think the OP is asking about any changes or amendments. If anyone has a copy/link to it, please let us know. I had one but it is very old. No idea if there has been any amendments.

This is the latest copy (based on the date 2011-3-28 and the footnotes) that I found.

    http://www.ctlo.com/...choolAct-En.pdf

if there are other related news, articles, or documents pertinent to the amendments-- it would be a big help and would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Download your copy of the Private School Act BE 2550 (AD 2008) at the site below.

    www.thailandteaching.asia/downloads/laws-thailand-57/private-school-act-2550-ad-2008-19/

....... and read Section 86 on page 25.It's all there.

I think this is an updated one...but all sections state the same things (it seems)

I've been working for this private school for almost three years. It's only now that they informed us about deducting our salary for the SSO. That's why I'm looking for an amendment to the private school act stating that private school teachers are already under the social security law.

This still states the obvious: (2011-3-28)

"Section 86.17 The affairs of a Formal School only on the part of the Director, teachers and

educational personnel shall not be subject to the law on labor protection, the law on labor

relations, the law on social security and the law on compensation. However, the Director,

teachers and educational personnel of a Formal School shall receive remunerations not less

than those prescribed in the law on labor protection.

Working protection, the adoption of Working Protection Committee and the minimum

remunerations of the Director, teachers and educational personnel of the Formal Schools shall

be in accordance with the rules prescribed by the Commission."

  6. can't help but sigh...all of your observations about the Philippines are true ( almost )...I really appreciate those who like the country for its people, places and culture. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. For those who hate the country, maybe due to bad experiences, I can't blame you but I think it's better for you to keep out of Philippine soil (or water).

I'm a Filipina working in Thailand. Unlike most of you, I didn't come here to see the sites and scenes of Thailand. I'm one of those people who seek greener pastures outside of my country. I can't wait for the time to go back and be with my family.

Just wish my country was as rich as your countries so that we will not have any beggars on the streets or so that the security officers in our malls, banks, and hotels wont have to bring big guns or so we don't have to work overseas and be separated from our families or so that we can prepare a beautiful and lovely place for you to visit...

Just wish my country has a government that is as blemished-free as your governments so that we can live in a corrupt-less society or so that we can have better infrastructures or so that we can have better hospital care etc so that on your next visit..you'd feel comfortable...

Sorry for the inconvenience and discomfort that you felt when you visited my country..It's really sad that my country was not able to satisfy your craving for clean, fun and exciting vacation...maybe we were just busy working so we can eat, we can have roof over our heads and we can have clothes on our body.... I think you really ought to stay in Thailand or some other countries in SE Asia.... We don't really need additional mouths to tell us how ugly and worst our country is....the People of the Philippines is already a handful....

I like Thailand but will not write about it anymore....you have stated how amazing Thailand is over and over and I will not write about the Philippines coz I'd be bias....

I like Thailand but I love the Philippines ( obviously !)
