  1. You will still need a negative PCR test 72 hours before departing for Thailand. As others have mentioned, they have discussed replacing the PCR at arrival with an anti-gen test, presumably since results are much faster and you wouldn't need to book a 1 day quarantine hotel. Looks like Omicron has put those plans on hold.

About wires and water pipes in those walls: On the construction drawing I can see clearly see where the fresh water and wastewater pipes are. And a shaft with lots of big wastewater pipes. I am aware that I can't touch those areas - and I don't plan to do that.

Construction drawings and actual build are not always the same.

Because you have pushed 4 people, who also desperately want the vaccine, further down the waiting list. Then, you come on here to brag about it! It's the Me-Me generation, very sad.  ☹️☹️

I'm transferring the 4 unused shots to relatives. How would the final allocation have been any different if I had booked shots under 6 names than under 2 names? And I'm not here to brag, I'm here to share information on status of shots, which is the original point of the thread.

To get back on track, I actually ordered for my wife and me at 3 places within an hour of them taking bookings months ago.

Bumrungrad told me that they are not allocating first come first, serve, but by need. So unvaccinated first, then those w 2 sinovac can get 1 booster. After that they didn't say. At one point they told me they would only give me 2 moderna shots if I only had a single shot prior. If already had 2 jabs of something else, they would only give single shot booster.

MedPark said first come first serve and I was in first batch, queue 4,000 no date given yet. But I don't believe they will get 4,000 from the first batch.

Phyathai, first come first serve, gave me Nov 22nd for first shot.

Unused shots all of the above is letting me transfer to someone else.

Update, MedPark told me they got 2,170 shots, so I won't be in first batch.

Sadly they could be having 2 shots of Pfizer or AZ free of charge. Many already double jabbed.

Problem is the gov't is giving you 1 shot of AZ and one shot of Pfizer at who knows what interval. Only certain groups will get two shots of Pfizer and not a cocktail. Anyone who has gotten 2 shots of Sinovac will only be given one AZ or Pz booster. None of those are widely recognized as being properly vaccinated. Anyone who needs a proper vaccine for travel, paid 2 shots of moderna in the proper interval is the only option.

  7. For the OP.

One thing to note is the current C-class coupe was introduced in 2015. So its at the end of its model life. The new C-Class sedan came out this year, with the new coupe out next year. Thailand probably a year after that. If that doesn't bother you, its a great little car. But I would also consider trading some horsepower for size and look at the E200 coupe, they roughly the same price. Must be a sign of me getting older, as I'm appreciating comfort over performance.

  8. Anyone who's paying a dime before going to the land office and getting your name registered is taking an unnecessary risk. There's no bank won't do this, office won't do that. Its the seller's job to tell the bank they are going to repay the loan, they want the property unencumbered by the mortgage and they want the chanote, the bank has to comply. Then set a date for all of this to happen at the land office and the seller, their bank, and you the buyer shows up. You pay the outstanding balance of the bank, the bank releases the mortgage, returns the chanote, you pay any remaining amounts to the seller and whatever stamps/fees you agreed to cover. All of this happens at the same time, no one leaves until everything is done. There is no risk and no sleepless nights. Any seller/bank telling you differently is either lazy or lying.

  9. You ultimately protect yourself by completing the transaction at the land register's office. As others mention, the land register is the ultimate determiner of who owns the property. The seller needs to bring all his necessary documentation, you need to bring a lawyer, payment and your documentation. Asking to see deeds in advance of this protects you from wasting time. If you are taking a mortgage, then your mortgage bank will handle it, they will make sure the sale is properly completed and then get their mortgage registered and then take the chanote.

Very informative reply. Thank you very much. I am really eyeing the X 5 45e. Which dealer didn't accept any orders for a black model? How long did you wait for yours for delivery?

    Thanks!

BMW runs a sort of shared inventory in Thailand. As I understand it, when dealers get their car allotment, they have a certain exclusivity window to sell it. Afterwards, if another dealer has a customer, the inventory gets moved. I called lots of dealers, most said they didn't have any. You have to actually go to dealerships and be a credible buyer for them to really help you. I went to the Bangkok motor show in last December and narrowed down my list and started shopping for real in Feb. By then the global chip shortage was really in. I could not find an Volvo XC90 at all to test drive and they were not taking orders. BMW, X3 I could not find one to even look at, only X5 I could find to test drive was the manager's personal car. They had blue and graphite in inventory, but white or black would not be available until 2022, this was in Feb. I ended up ordering a Range Rover Sport PHEV, which I ended up having to cancel as it looked like my 6month wait would be 9 or 12+. So went back to BMW in June and found one blue X5 45e in inventory and bought it immediately (in retrospect, probably better I got the X5 than the RRS). Dealer said only reason it was on the lot for more than a few days was the color, and even then I had to put down a deposit within in that day or another dealership was going to take it. It was one of the last unsold X5s in the country and at that point they said they were no longer taking any more orders, and all the orders from earlier in the year won't be delivered until 2022. They still had some 5 series, but X1,3,5 and 3 series, completely gone. Similar stories at other brands, Mercedes, called and visited multiple dealers asking to see a GLE diesel and couldn't even get the time of day from them. Audi, had 1 Q8, no Q5 or Q7s. They had about 2 E-Tron's per month trickle in, they had one available if I were willing to wait a month.

Porsche, if you willing to wait 4-6months, and willing to pay $$$ for options that are standard on a Kia. The X5 45e M-Sport came well equipped at 4.7mn. Cayenne e-hybrids start at 6.3mn, but get it similarly equipped it came out as 7.8mn.

  11. What sort of business you are in and how much are you paying? Many of the talent coming out of university want an established name employer as their first job on their CV, and pay has been getting competitive for experienced candidates. I've never had a problem finding plenty of excellent talent that could fit in any corporate environment NYC or London. The bulk of my fresh grad hires are from Chula/Thammast, and have never had a problem, but have also found excellent people at other universities. But I work for a big name and thanks to all the tech giants around hoovering up talent (Grab, Shopee, Lazada...), the compensation figures have grown rapidly to stay competitive. I pay kids out of Uni 45k/month starting salary and that doubles in 5 years. Middle managers with 10 years experience make 2-300k, these are 1.5 - 2x what I was paying 5-6 years ago. Its also very important the work culture and the social bonds, the Roon Pi's / big brothers and sisters. Once I established my core team, recruiting was primarily referrals through their social networks.

I know not every job can pay at this level, but that ambitious, self starter with critical thinking skills who doesn't need to be micromanaged? He/She isn't a mythological creature, there are many of them, but they have lots of options. You either have to attract them or deal with managing the talent you can afford. I don't think its helpful to have broad sweeping negative generalizations. HR is always one of the challenges in managing a business. Millenials/GenZ world wide have proven to be new HR challenges. When we remodeled our offices, I gave up my corner view and now have a windowless room, smaller than before, so that the whole floor and common areas can have a view and sunlight. When I was younger, I worked hard to please my bosses, now that I'm the boss, I have to work hard to please my staff.

  12. What people want is an mRNA or other western vaccine now. That is not a choice offered to the majority of Thai's. Its take Sinovac now and not be given Pfizer/AZ later, or wait until Pfizer/AZ is made available. Thats a much harder risk assessment to take. That's why the OP is in a special position of having pre-paid for Moderna from the private sector, it would allow him to take Sinovac now AND get an mRNA vaccine later. But for the others, the calculus is roughly as follows. Assuming 60mn people, 20k daily reported case, say the real number is 3x would mean 60k actual cases a day or roughly 0.1% chance per day. But if you were to wait 4 months to get your Pfizer shot, the odds of you contracting covid during that period is 1 in 9. Assuming the global average fatality rate of 3%, you have a 1 in 300 chance of getting covid and dying while waiting 4 months for a better vaccine. Taking the low end off what google showed me, Sinovac even against Delta, reduces fatality rate by 80%. Assuming Sinovac only reduced the fatality rate, and does nothing to reduce your odds of contracting it, your odds of dying would be down to 1 in 1,500. If you believe in the 90%+ effectiveness, it increases the odds to more than 1 in 3,000. One in 300 is unacceptable odds to me. Covid has already taken 2 people dear to me.

  13. I understand people's hesitancy to get sinovac now as it would preclude you from getting something better. But you don't have that issue with your private order of Moderna, which would allow you to get 2 shots of sinovac, and 2 shots of moderna, which looks to be a safe combination. Your decisions should thus be, in order of priority

    1. Get 2 shots of Pfizer now. You may lose your pre-payment for moderna, but who cares, you were willing to pay for an mRNA vaccine and you got one sooner.

    2. Get 2 shots of Sinovac now, then get Moderna later

    3. Worst choice is get nothing now, wait for something better later

Then you have all the other odd options, which I personally put all below #2. Any mix and match vaccinations that is 1 sinovac + 1 Pfizer or Az or any single shot of Pfizer or AZ. Because you should wait 6-8 months before getting your Moderna shots, and depending on hospital policy, if you don't take the Moderna shot on the allowed timeframe, you will lose it. Two shots of AZ now, doesn't look to be an option.

If you are worried about vaccine safety, then you should be really worried about mixing vaccines that are not inactivated virus. There's very little data on that. The data on antibodies from mixing is just the gov't is pushing for PR. Antibody levels are no indication of immunity, just your immunological response.

I stay in touch with folks in America. They were all offered Pfizer, Moderna and JJ. Millions refused it. Just sayin'.

  15. Regarding deviated septum, I had a severe case but resisted corrective surgery for years. Eventually got it fixed and am so happy I did. After a very uncomfortable 48hour recovery period w gauze up my sinuses and then being yanked out, I couldn’t believe how clear I could breath. It was a night and day difference. So many problems (allergies, post nasal drip induced coughs etc) went away immediately. Made me regret waiting to do the procedure.

  16. I had a similar issue last November '15. I ordered a Mavic Pro from DJI, oddly they listed Thailand as a shipping destination and said price included VAT. However, when it arrived customs would not clear it. DJI did not have an importer's license for that specific model, so I had to go through a bunch of paper work to import it. Then I also had to get a letter from the Civil Aviation Authority approving its importation. Drones under 2KG do not need to be registered, but DHL gave customs the 5kg shipping weight and customs wouldn't clear it without CAA approval (took 3 weeks) but they sent me the letter via Thai Post (1 week). Then the spare batteries were shipped separate, and batteries imported separately from the the item required I get a battery import license as its considered hazardous material.

However, after I went through all the loops and 6 weeks later, I had it cleared and received the drone. Anyways, I'll only by drones from local retailers who have already navigated all the red tape.

  17. Ok, there appears to be 3 SKU's of Windows7 Home premium in thailand. Thai Retail, SE Asia Retail, and OEM. Thai retail apparantly was just released, the salesman at ITCity in Panthip accidentally gave me Thai Retail instead of SE Asia retail. When I came back today, he knew exactly what the problem was and swapped me with the SE Asia edition, which was 600 baht cheaper. Was surprised at how friendly and helpful their customer service was, i will be shopping there again in the future. The difference between SE Asia and Thai edition appears to be that SE Asia is english only and must be activated in SE Asia, i assume verified via IP. The Thai edition, does not have activation restrictions, but does not have english language display. There is a rather convoluted method of installing it with english that i posted earlier for those of you happy with ISO's, slipstreaming and regedit. The OEM edition, requires an OEM Pre-installation Kit (OPK, available to registered system builders). I am sure the wizards of panthip have that all sorted out, but not sure if i personally would go to the effort to figure out an OPK work around to save 1600 baht. If you want to be able to change display language and activate it anywhere, it appears that the retail ultimate edition is the way to go. All the versions of Windows 7 in thailand appear to be full installs, versus vista to 7 upgrade options available in the US. All this compared to the USD 30 and 30minutes it took me to upgrade my mac to snow leopard. There must be a hundred SKU's for Windows7 worldwide, MS distribution at its best.

I bought Windows 7 Professional from a retail shop at Fortune Plaza, Phra Ram 9, Bangkok.

It was packaged in a generic looking white box with black lettering.

Inside was a proper DVD type plastic case containing the Windows 7 DVD.

The package said the disk was an OEM System Builder Pack Intended for system builders ONLY.

For distribution only with a PC.

Not sure what all that means as that was what all the shops were selling.

There was a notice also that the software would only work on computers in certain Asian countries.

Does any of this sound familiar?

When I tried to install it myself all the default installer language was English.

I was upgrading from an unregistered XP version of Windows.

That may have been the reason it would not let me do an automatic install Upgrade or maybe it because my current system was not Vista.

The Custom installation forced me to use a built in Windows Easy Transfer to transfer all my Documents and Settings to a external hard drive.

This was because the Windows 7 installation process wipes out all those files on your hard drive.

If your system allowed the Upgrade then the files and settings are not wiped.

After Windows 7 is installed then you access the saved file to restore your documents and settings.

Since my computer was just a few months old I took it back to Pantip where I bought the machine and had them install Windows 7 for me so I would also get all the 'Perk' programs they installed as a new computer.

It took 3 hours and 300TB (cheap) and saved me the scare of restoring my system to working again.

I did the the files and settings restore myself. ( I took my external HD along with my PC).

Since your install was all in Thai, maybe there were some options missed or a step left out.

I thought I had read some place during the release of Windows 7 that the versions were all in English.
