  1. Fly to any country nearby is possible, and yes you will need a visa / be stamped in and out before you return. Check Phnom Penh while you're at it.

Alternatively it will take about as much or even less time if you just take the bus to the border and back (Jack Golf does daily trips to Cambodia, leave early morning, come back in the afternoon, including Cambodia visa around 2K Baht) compared with trip to airport, hours long check-in, waiting for return flight and repeat bus may be faster and definitely cheaper :)

Thanks Jdietz, have looked at the deals at Jack Golf and it certainly seems like the quickest way to get a stamp on your passport, as well as being cheaper. I will probably end up going for this option, getting it all done in a day is very helpful :D Cheers!

  2. My Multiple O Visa runs out in 10 days time, so I need to briefly visit another country to extend it for another 3 months. I'll be setting off from Bangkok, ideally I'd like to fly if possible. For the dates I want to travel, airasia is offering return flights to Ho Chi Minh city Vietnam including airport taxes etc for 3900 baht which seems very reasonable. Would I need a Visa for this trip, even if I don't leave the airport - I'm guessing I would :)

My other option I've come up with is a round trip to Singapore for 5300 baht, not exactly cheap but at least I wouldnt have to worry about Visa requirements.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

  3. Ah good, that sounds pretty simple.

I remember reading elsewhere on Thaivisa that people doing Visa runs sometimes had to spend a couple of days waiting around for their Visa to be renewed - does this only apply to people whose Visa has completely expired and need to apply for a brand new Visa?

In theory, once I leave Cambodia, they will just automatically give me another 3 months on my current Multiple O, correct? Will my friend get another 60 days on their tourist Visa, or will the end date (mid-March) remain the same for them?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi!

Me and my friend are planning a trip for 4-5 days from Bangkok to Cambodia. We were going to go either by bus or train, entering at Poipet and exiting either at Poipet or Koh Kong, again by bus or train.

I have a Non Immigrant O Multiple entry Visa still on the first entry, which finishes in early April. So I really have no need to make a Visa run at the moment - will I be penalised in any way by going to and from Cambodia, or will I still be allowed to keep my "early April" date?

My friend has a 60 day tourist Visa with 3 entries that expires mid-March - would you have any advice for them?

Sorry if I come across as a little naive, its the first time I've had to reenter Thailand, any help would be much appreciated :)

  5. I have a very nice Thai lady friend, who I know is very fond of flowers. Some kind of bouquet arriving at her house on Valentine's day would make her very happy.

However, she is extremely budget-conscious, and will go beserk if she finds out that I have "wasted" 3000-4000 baht using one of the mainstream flower delivery services that google brings up. Plus I'm a cheapskate :)

So, does anybody know of a flower delivery service that charges Thai prices as opposed to farang prices? I'm looking at getting them delivered to Nong Khai, if that's any help.

  6. Hi,

I'm planning on staying in Thailand for up to a year. I'm looking for an insurance policy that will cover emergency medical expenses, and hopefully the cost of having a spill on my scooter (Thai roads being a bit on the dangerous side).

Do a lot of Thai expats/long-term vacationers take out these kind of insurance? Are they worth it? Any policies you could recommend? (I'm from the UK, I don't have a motorbike license).

    Thanks :)

  7. Thanks Terry, the non-immigrant O sounds ideal for me. It sounds like it functions in the same way as the non-immigrant B with regards to paid employment?

I will have to look into the work permit issue, hopefully the volunteer organisation in question can provide me with one, but obviously not something I can take for granted.

Unfortunately, I don't have a degree, which will probably limit my options for paid employment.

Thanks again for the advice, much appreciated :)

  8. Hi!

I recently returned from Thailand having done a 1 month TEFL course, and I am looking to return within the next 1-2 months to do some volunteer English teaching in Nong Khai for perhaps 3 months. Once my volunteer stint comes to an end, I would like to find paid employment as an English teacher in Thailand for maybe 6 months to a year.

Everything I have read seems to suggest that you are better off getting a visa in your home country. I live in the UK, close to the Thai consulate in Hull, which is rumoured to be one of the easier places to acquire a visa.

So my question is: what would be the best type of visa to get in this situation? And what supporting paperwork would I need for this?

    Thanks!

  9. Few years ago found the night stalls in Patong had loads of 2 and 3 XL. my friend visiting 2 weeks ago went as I asked for more 3 XL, he said they had XL and 2 XL, then the next size was 5 XL........ Likewise with trousers appears they go to size 44" then nothing till 58 then 60 and 62...... edit: not a lot of good as I like them baggy so size 48.

Possibly the 2XL shirts would be ok .... I am going by UK sizes and my trousers are 42" at present. I will look at the night stalls next time I'm in Patong, cheers! :)
