    Hat's off to you for not making any irrational decisions. I'm not sure i could keep my cool the same as you if faced with the same situation. I probably would have confronted my wife at the first opportunity. But i think your approach is better as you are being pragmatic and sorting things out in your head first. Before confronting her, consider her reaction and how you will deal with it i.e. play it out in your head first and try to stay one step ahead.

    For now you have the advantage, she is not aware that you know :)

    Good Luck.

  2. Please, stop picking on Thai women.

    All the bad things said about them are true. But what about our stinking West?

    The institution of marriage has outlived itself. 'Until the death us part' means now until one of two wants a divorce. But this is not a real problem. The real problems are many. And cut very deep. Women marry for money, security, family. Men marry for 'love', or rather lust. Women think with their heads, men - with their balls. And pay for this later.

    There is no equality (never has been). Legally, women have more rights. Children are always awarded to them. Why? Houses are coming with the children. Sounds fair,... but how many of these are your own? Women have sex for better offspring. How many husbands do fit this bill genetically?

    Men can not be, do or feel the same way. This is a biological fact. A man must feel 'lust' and have an erection. A woman does not. This explains why there are so many marriages for money, with statistics favouring women.

    Anything else is crap, based on personal experiences, whether good or bad. :D

    Can this situation be changed? Not the physiological aspects. The social ones? Perhaps. Introduce Marriage licencing. Valid for, say, 3 years. Renewable only upon both parties application. Remove children from the divorce disputes, by making all offspring of broken marriages wards of state. Introduce compulsory fair prenaptual contracts (maintaining 'status quo' at the point of marriage). And no maintenance to either party....

    Questions. 1. How many people will want to marry on these conditions?

    2. Do YOU want such changes?

    3. What do the unemployed lawyers and judges do?

    :):D:D To make this really short: REMOVE MONEY FROM SEX ISSUES!

    Bad things said are said against bad women. Most Thai women are not bad women.

  3. .

    I am lucky I have a girl friend who does not like gold and both her and her family only want 100,000 Sinsod Which for a farang is very good Most of the greedy bastards want at least a million.

    Only a 100,000 Baht ?

    Sorry cant get my head around paying the sinsod. Each to their own I guess. I paid zero, and thai wife's family didnt ask for any. Even her sister married a German, he paid nothing. Havent met to many Thai guys who paid it either.

    Saying that one of my clients was asked for 400k night before wedding in Surin for her family. He refused as he was already taking care of her 2 children she had with a Thai guy, the family would not let up, so he walked away. Sad as now the kids will struggle over her familes greed.

    The Sin Sod is well explained on this forum. Take a look and then maybe you will get your head around paying it.

    My wife's nephew (Thai) got married recently and his Sin Sod was 60,000 baht plus 3baht of gold. He will not be getting it back - well not directly anyway.

  4. This is one of the problems with affluence in the Rayong province. The parents can really make things difficult at schools. I taught at a school which had an area behind the classrooms where drug dealing and gambling was prevalent. Admin knew about it and did nothing because they were scared of the parents.

    And what did you do about it? Nothing - for fear of losing your job? If you chose to turn a blind eye then you are no better than the Admin people you readily criticise. As a parent i cannot understand any adult who can turn a blind eye to kids involved in drug dealing :)

  5. Thanks for the info

    will in rayong next week for final interview but this gives a indication of package i should be looking for

    Looks like the golfing will be good but hopefully the cycling is good as well

    Cheers

    Chris

    Chris,

    How did the interview go? Moving up here or not?

    NTT

  6. Regarding the posts that discuss charging economy class passengers based on their body weight:

    Passenger 1 - Weighs 100 kgs, is 6' 2" tall and athletic build. Seat width ok but knees probably under his chin :D

    Passenger 2 - Weighs 100 kgs, is 5' 4" short and very overweight. Cannot fit comfortably into the seat width without 'spilling over' into next seat. No problem with kness, feet don't touch the floor :D

    What i am trying to demonstrate above is that size NOT weight should be the deciding factor. If a passenger cannot reasonably fit into the seat they have paid for and require additional space then they should pay for it.

    I know, i know, defining 'reasonably fit' will create another discussion in its own right :)

    ps

    Nothing against those that are 5'4" and weigh 100 kgs. :D

  7. Due to the cost of flights you are now considering driving from UK to Thailand. Have you considered the cost of fuel, vehicle insurance, servicing, visas, food, accomodation etc etc? It could well add up to more than the GBP2500 (you mentioned in another thread) that you are prepared to pay for flights. If the only reason you are considering this option of driving is to save money i would suggest you take the cheapest flights available (Aeroflot or whoever) because flying with them is probably safer than driving.

    People that undertake such adventures normally do so after months of planning. Those that do it on a whim risk putting themselves in grave danger!

    ps

    I replied to your post re the flights and have given a website where you may find flights more within your price range :)

  8. China is the biggest threat to world peace and prosperity. Buying anything produced in China makes one complicit in:

    Genocide: more than 2 million Tibetans murdered including 100,000 monks and 8,000 Temples destroyed;

    Human rights: summary executions for expressing opinions, demanding basic rights and wanting freedom;

    Labor: highest incidence of slave labor and child labor requiring 18 hours a day work without breaks, living on site sleeping on the floor without proper sanitation;

    Environmental pollution: more ongoing and planned destructive infrastructure that will further degrade the atmosphere, land and water;

    Ecological: far and away the biggest trade in the body parts of endangered and protected species;

    Trade: inundating the world's market with cheap, inferior quality goods a huge percentage of which are toxic and lethal, endangering the children of the world.

    There is nothing made in China that anyone needs. I will never buy anything made there. Enough Already!

    What about your PC/mouse/keyboard? There is a high chance that some of it is made in China. Same goes for your mobile phone and it's internal components!

  9. The best prices are with Thai Rewards. My husband got one of their cards and it was one of the best things he bought. He saved loads of money on his games of golf and we both save money when we go out to bars and restaurants - even my hair and nails! I think it's so good I just want to tell everyone about it.... check out Thairewardsgolf.com

    Just compared some prices on the Thai Rewards site against walk in prices that i know of. Looks like i would start saving money after just one or two rounds, after covering the cost of the card. Thanks for the info :)

  10. Played a two ball round at Plutaluang Navy Course yesterday. We got called through twice. Both were four ball of Thai men who were very polite and kept completely silent whilst we played our shots. We thanked them, wished them a good round and moved on. All very civilised, as it should be :)

  11. We are age 38,31,12,5,4,1 years old at time of flight this year.

    I'm prepared to pay up to £2,500 for all of us, but i'm getting quotes of between £3,600 -£7,000 and I've tried most airlines web sites.

    These airlines penalize families, we will have to sit tight and see what happens.

    Thai airways was the most expensive!!!More than BA.

    Coolhand, I'm not sure what dates you are looking at but i just went to the Opodo web site and entered 01 May - 15 May 2010 BKK-LHR return for 3 adults, 2 kids and 1 infant. Cheapest fare is with Jet Airways at a cost of GBP2996.70. Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

  12. Ryanair do offer low headline fares and a new fleet but when you add the cost of the extras up, like charging £10 per passenger for a card transaction fee, (even when paying on one card where the fee is approx £0.30), they start to become a lot less attractive. They also offer zero backup in the case of anything going wrong. The cost base is also lower as they employ lots of low-hours FO's who are paying for their own training.

    Agree that Thai has an old fleet on the LHR-BKK route and it's past its sell-by.

    Regards travelling on low-cost in Thailand, Cdnvic's comments ring true when you consider something like the 1-2-Go accident in Phuket. Regulation is not strict enough in Thailand and they were cutting corners everywhere, including falsifying checkrides. The pilots in the accident were unfortunately culpable, as the accident report showed. Phuket Air are also owned by the same guy.

    Cheers..

    P.S. To OP - Etihad have a good reputation if you don't mind changing planes. Otherwise EVA represents a decent priced option to travel direct. No-one is cheaper than AirAsia afaik.

    Last year the chief exec of Ryanair was looking at introducing a 'toilet charge' for passengers. That's really taking the p*ss!! :)

  13. Weight!

    50kg of extra freight capacity should generate a few hundred dollars of revenue for the airline (they do carry freight, not just passengers and their luggage).

    I'm not going to get into the charging passengers by the kilo for their own bodyweight argument (but you might want to since you are clearly an economic analyst :D )

    Exactly! It's all about weight. Hence the need/reason for load and trim sheets :)

  14. I met this guy at a restaurant in town back before Christmas. He does cartoons & caricatures & did a caricature of the owner of the restaurant, in about 3 minutes. A very nice, affable, elderly fellow. He told me travels around the world & does this everywhere he goes. He enjoys people, this is a lot of fun for the subject & he creates lots of good will in the process.

    I can't believe they arrested him, much less had him spend even one night in jail.

    If he can afford to travel around the world why bother charging 20 baht for some of his drawings? Doesn't make sense. Maybe he was charging more hence the seemingly harsh treatment!?

  15. Hi Most of fast food is laced with Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) or In thai Choo-rot. That is the cause of Hypertension. I myself stay away from it as much as possible. The street venders load their food with it, some even put it on the table as a condiment.

    jb1

    Some people ask for less or no chilli in certain Thai dishes. Me, i ask for no MSG. Works for me :)

  16. A farang in our town has just learnt that his Thai wife has gambled away 2 million in savings, their house (10 Million), their car and 30 Rai of Chanote land, all gone, sod all left, and he can do nothing about it. All in the period of six weeks whilst he was away in the Mid East working.

    And i wonder how much she actually contributed to their savings and 10 Mill house. Probably <deleted> all. So what gives her the god dam_n right to gamble with it? The woman has a serious addiction and needs help.

  17. The odds of winning the UK lottery are bad enough but with the added complication of having to try and prove you are a 'resident' it's not worth all the bother. Better off finding an alternative lottery or other form of online gambling that has no residence related restrictions.

  18. HTC smart phones will give you 3 options. you can tether via bluetooth, usb or built in wifi router. i am currently using HTC Touch HD2 with I-Mobile 3g sim hitting almost 7 mbps in bangkok. Believe me you cant go wrong with HTC smart phones.

    dandun, if i upgrade my 2 year old nokia (can't recall the model) to an HTC Touch HD2 would it increase my connection speed or is the speed purely based on the provider that you use?
