  1. Keep the money in UK assets if you can a B2L (buy to let) is the safest and the rental income will be more than enough to live on in Siam if you get it Mortgage free & it's in a good state, I suggest you look in Birmingham or Leeds or your hometown 200k won't get you anything in London. Remember you'll need TH฿800k on deposit in a Thai bank if a Thai spouse is not in your future. KEEP British residency, use the B2L as a mailing address & stay on the voters roll, you don't want to loose entitlement to the NHS any cost to you re this (ie Council Tax) can always be clawed back by sticking a fiver on the weekly rent.

  2. Most of the cheap $99 for a suit and a couple of shirt tailors can only make money on that deal if they're finishing off a roll of cheap fabric. It's far poorer quality than the high thread count Eyptian cotton's or Italian wools. You can easily tell by feeling the fabric. If you go to a decent tailor & ask for a quote on the decent stuff & they'll only be marginally Cheaper than a Jermyn Street Tailor.

I have to have my suits & long sleeve shirts tailored because of a physical handicap, off the shelf clothes look ridiculous on me. I've used the same Burmese guy in the Royal Orchid Sheraton for 10 years. He's not the cheapest in town & but he is one of the best. Even my old man who made a fortune in the Rag trade over a long career told me I was never to let anyone else make my clothes.

  3. I moved back to the UK a little over 2 years ago. I miss Thailand, but I forgot how much I missed the UK as well. Although I can't see myself moving back to Thailand anytime soon, I'll be asking Willie Walsh to keep me a seat open on Speedbird 009/010 as I hope to make frequent use of it.

  4. I used an excellent visa agent when I lived in LOS, He always advocated changing your passport,& do it in your country of citizenship if possible especially if your old one had a few TR visas in it. After many discussions with him & the Staff or the RTE in London & Singapore the ultimate rule is to change your visa type or stay out of the country for 3 months. If he's still in Business then you'll find his office in the PB Tower, soi Pridi 71 ask for Khun Philip

  5. That's still a damn sight better than any bank in the UK will give you. I get F-all fromLloyds litterally f-all even my blue book a/c with BKKB pays better I was in the Silom branch the other day & spoke to someone & if I was in a position to park TH฿200k or more in my Orange book a/c I'd do it in a heartbeat but I don't live in LOS anymore & getting to it in an emergency would be problematic to say the least. + the exchange rate at the moment doesn't make it worthwhile. If it stays North of 50-£ & the rates are still better than the UK I'll think about it when I'm back here next year

  6. Martial law to be strictly enforced

we wouldn't expect anything less from you General. Good work ol' boy... clap2.gif

The wearing of Red Shirts on a Sunday to be looked at

That's going to piss off the sports bar managers & fake football shirt vendors when Arsenal Liverpool & Man Utd play most of their games on a Sunday in the indochina time zone

  7. How many people get into trouble because they never check there passport after a stamp is put into it that turns out to be wrong.

How can people not check, I used to put the date in my calendar with a reminder alert before I left the immigration office when I used to live here, I still do when I come back on extended visits.

    Liquor
Turning grown men into drama queens since 2,000 B.C.

Maybe it was that liquor has been making women beautiful since 2,000 B.C.

Lucky me, because when I'm pissed for me even the most beautiful woman turns ugly as hell.

Khao Lao will do that to you, on the other hand most bar maids have many more things that have completely the opposite effect on most.

  9. I was once asked to show my Bank Book at the Consulate in HK but that was when I was taking the piss slightly & living in LOS on TR visas & had forgotten some of the Docs for my Non-imm, it was so they would give me another TR so I could go back & get said documents.

On another note, I've just Landed in KL & instead of making me fill out a landing card they took my prints & scanned my Passport, thats a change from when I was last south of Yala. Any changes like that in LOS since I've been away?

I've been back in the UK for a couple of years, does anyone expect me to have any trouble getting a 60-day TR visa from KL? or should get the train or air-shuttle to Penang or Singapore.

  10. Bangkok Bank don't Charge me any ATM usage fees unless I'm upcountry but then I have my Thai accounts with them.

Unless in a dire emergency I'll never use my UK cards in Thailand, even when transferring relatively small amounts SWIFT fees @ the BKKB exchange rate & fees are better than any credit card will give you. If you are a frequent visitor to LOS I'd advise opening an account in the country I'm not sure how easy that is now for people who don't have a Non-Imm visa even back in the day Wifey had to sign documents so I could open mine. I think Krung-Thai & Kasikorn are the most flexible from what others have told me.
