  1. If you had to choose between the beaches of Andaman vs the beaches of Gulf of Thailand which would you choose (and why)?

I am speaking from a tourist perspective and just want to get some opinions from others on what they would recommend and of course the reason for that.

I have asked several friends who have been to Thailand but thought to post here as well.

In Andaman I have noticed Phuket, Ko Phi Phi and Krabi look interesting - while in the Gulf I have noticed that Ko Sumai, Ko Pha Ngan and Surat Thani seem appealing.

    Thanks for any insight !

  2. In order to enter a nightclub (dance club) what is the entry requirement in a city such as Bangkok ? Do they check for some ID at the door - or do they not require this ?

The reason I ask is that I am just a little weary of taking my passport with me at night - in general when I travel I usually leave my passport in the safe at the hotel at all times because it is not needed for most things.

Anyhow, any knowledge or experience of the nightclub entry requirements would be helpful.

  3. Would it be possible to do Chiang Mai in a single day ? I am undecided whether to see Chiang Mai because of time restrictions and a desire to see the beaches.

If we fly from Bangkok on the early morning flight and then spend the whole day in Chiang Mai will we be able to see everything there ? We would stay one night in Chiang Mai and fly out the next morning.

  4. I am having some difficulty calling Thailand from the USA.

I am starting to plan a trip to Thailand and wanted to start speaking to hotels over the phone and get some information.

I tried calling 2 different hotels today but no luck.

As an example I tried to call the Chatrium Bangkok Suites hotel which has a number listed of

    Tel : +66 (0) 2307 8888

From the USA I thought this means I would dial:

    011 66 2307 8888

However this number does not work. I am using Vonage to call and it rings in a USA dial tone for a while and then switches over to what sound like a foreign (Thaliand?) dial tone.

I also tried an international phone card - after a long silence it also just rings and rings.

Am I dialing the number correctly ? There is an extra 0 listed in the hotels number on their website and I'm not sure why.

I am calling Thailand when it is Sunday around 9pm or later - so I don't know if that is a bad time to call Thailand.

  5. In one flight pattern I found we would fly from India to Bangkok, layover for 2 hours then continue to final destination of Phuket.

In this situation - would the Visa On Arrival be in Bangkok or in Phuket ?

Where are you getting the photo requirements from ? On VFS website it says 3.5cm x 4.5cm (http://www.vfs-thail...ifications.html) but on the Thai Embassy website it simply says 2 1/4 inches ?

What are the correct dimensions ?

  6. The reason why I was leaning towards Visa On Arrival is because my wife's bank account has 0 (zero) rupees in it, meaning she does not have any money in it. She is currently not working and I suppose I could put some money in it to cover the Visitor Visa requirement - but there would be no history of account balance. It would all of a sudden be a bunch of money deposited into her account.

Maybe they do not care too much about the financial requirement. However, she still currently (and for some time) has had 0 in the bank and that is why I thought of applying for Visa On Arrival instead.

Do all airports in the Thailand participating in Visa on Arrival have express photo services for passport photos ?

  7. I am a USA passport holder and my wife is an Indian passport holder. We will be traveling directly from India to Thailand.

As a USA passport holder I can enter Thailand Visa-free; however my wife who is the Indian passport holder must apply for a Temporary Tourist Visa (Visa on Arrival)

There are several detailed questions I have about this - I appreciate any responses or experience that people have had with this.

    • Where will my wife obtain the form/application for Temporary Tourist Visa ?
    • Is it a strict requirement that the photo dimensions be 2.25 inches x 2.25 inches ? Other sizes will be flat out rejected ?
    • At the Thai airport, which immigration line do we stand in? I assume there are multiple lines - but because of our different passports I want to accompany her in the same line.
    • Is there any need to carry our original marriage certificate with us - just in case?
    • Would it be feasible to fly into Phuket, obtain the Temporary Tourist Visa, and then fly back to India from Bangkok ? Since this is a Temporary Tourist Visa, when I present proof of a fully paid ticket describing my flight pattern (multi-city) - will this cause any concern or additional questions from the immigration officer? Is it simply easier to show them you are flying in and out of the same city in Thailand ?
    • What would be considered an acceptable proof of FULLY PAID TICKET ? I normally book tickets online and so I only have online receipts or itineraries to print out from websites or my email. Is there some particular document they are looking for to show proof of FULLY PAID TICKET ?
    • The Thai Embassy says you must present 10,000 Baht per person. What are they are really asking for - are they going to pocket some of that money for themselves? Are they expecting you to show them cash - what are the other acceptable instruments to show - Traveler's Checks, International Debit/Credit Card? Or do they just want to see cash ?
    • If ALL requirements listed on the Thai Embassy website for Visa On Arrival - is there a fairly good chance that the Temporary Tourist Visa will be granted? Visa rules can be somewhat hard these days so I just want to inquire if it is a good idea to bring any extra documents in case there is something that they would additionally ask for.

I know my questions are extremely detailed, but I usually have a visa in hand before traveling. So just want to confirm all the details and ask questions about what documents will satisfy the requirements.

    Thanks in advance !

  8. That is a cash requirement for entry into Thailand and could be checked by Immigration on arrival. Cash is what you should have - or a card to obtain cash.

Is Cash a requirement for entry into Thailand. I do not see any mention of having Cash to show immigration on the Embassy websites. In your experience did you have to show cash to the immigration officer upon arrival?

I looked at the website for the VFS Thailand Tourist Visa and it stated that Evidence of Adequate Funds appears is a requirement to receive the Tourist Visa from the Thai Embassy in India.

For some reason - I cannot post a weblink on this Thai Visa site so if you go to GOOGLE and search for "VFS Thailand Visa" you will see the webpage I am talking about. You may need to click on "Visa Forms and Requisites" and then on "Tourist Visa" to see what I am referring to.

  9. Hello,

I am an Indian National applying for a Thai Tourist Visa. I went to the VFS Thailand Visa website and the instructions say that you must provide Evidence of Adequate Finance equal to 20,000 Baht.

This may be a very obvious question - but I still want to ask

What documents can one provide which will satisfy the Thai Visa requirements for Evidence of Adequate Finance? Is it ONLY a bank statement or are there any other documents they will accept?

Also if I provide a bank statement - how many months of bank statement do I need to provide? Is it sufficient to provide one month's bank statement showing 20,000 Baht or do they need more?

    Thanks !
