  1. Three posts deleted. As I said in the other thread, instructions on evading the blocks are a no-no. We don't want to be added to the list. :o

Well, then, we'll have to play dirty and see if you can keep up with us....

It's called civil disobedience. Ban me if you like. I have plenty of other things to keep me busy.

"The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke

That means you, Mods. Are you good men, or not?

Yeah, we're gonna risk a site used by thousands getting blocked so you can make your statement. Why don't you walk into the police station, flash your identification, and visa number, and do a little disobedience there? Or are you only willing to let other people (the owners and users of this site) take the risk? **edit by cdnvic**
  2. To clarify what a boycott will do. If under 20% of the electorate, in a single constituency, vote then that result is void. It needs 500 seats out of 500 to vote in a government. So if say 30/50 seats are not filled the whole parliament will be invalid and unable to govern. Nobody quite knows what happens after that!!!!!

But that is the point of the boycott!

But, aren't all those voters who go along with the boycott blacklisted and prevented from voting in the next election?

So, when a re-election is held to replace the void one only those who voted will be able to vote in the second round?

  3. Folks inside Thailand just need to do what the Chinese have been doing for years; connect through a proxy server.

Unfortunately, this only works some of the time. This is because the Thai government is now sniffing packets and censoring incoming content. So, even if you're able to reach a site via a proxy, the government can still block the content. So, what you need is a proxy that will encrypt the content it forwards back to you.

  4. The house I'm in has two large bedrooms. One with a bathroom, one without. There is also one very small room -- big enough for a kid's bed and a desk and not much else. The condition varies widely. For 400K you have to do some fixing up, but nothing major.

    Look here:

    Korat Photos

  5. I live in Baan Mai, which is about 4K west of the Mall. Two and a half bedroom houses in this moo baan (about 10 years old) are selling for about 400K baht. These are very simple homes, but completely adequate.

Brand new, similarly sized homes in this area sell for about a million baht.

  6. There ARE simple and free and effective solutions which involve encrypting your traffic so that it can't be sniffed. My guess is if I mention what they are, in the context of a discussion about proxy servers at least, that this thread will also be deleted. Utter paranoia abounds in this forum, now it's rubbing off on me. :o

Give it a shot. At worse this thread will be deleted. So what.

I think it's worth knowing who stands up for free speech and who buckles under to fear tactics....

Or, PM me with the information and I'll post it.

  7. As an aside it is possible to get the WAN (is that correct - your internal IP address?) of your computer (assuming your using a router) using the Java software installed on many machines - try this link

    http://www.auditmypc.com/internal-ip.html

    and take their test. Interesting.

But, if you're using a proxy, this test returns the address of the proxy server, not your IP address. For example, I'm using proxy.netshade.net which has the IP address 64.34.168.70 which is what the link you provided returns.

  8. Of course your IP address is masked when you use a proxy server, but does your WAN address remain the same as far as the website you are accessing is concerned?

I don't understand the meaning of "WAN" address in this context.

As far as the web site you are accessing is concerned the request comes from the IP address of the proxy, not your IP address.

Only the proxy server knows your real IP address.

Caveat: I believe the Thai government is monitoring for content all traffic coming in to Thailand. So, they know your IP address even if you use a proxy because by that point the packets are addressed to you with your IP address.

  9. And for what its worth, there is probably more nightlife news, and more accurate nightlife news in the column now, than there was in the past.

Is your nightlife reporting any more accurate than your reporting on Korat?

  10. A proxy server won't help you much. Not only are particular web sites being blocked, but the government is "sniffing" return traffic and blocking pages it finds to have objectionable content.

    If you get this page:

    Cyber Clean

then the page was blocked based on content, not because it was on some list.

I'm using an anonymous, secure, password protected proxy in the US and I still get the above page. Sometimes totally innocuous pages are being blocked.

The "Access Denied (policy_denied)" message means that the site or IP address itself was blocked based on a list.

Can I guess that this thread won't last very long?

  11. They are all over the place. Next time you "gas" up, take a look at the sign that says "gas" in Thai and memorize what it looks like. As you drive around, look for that sign. You'll see quite a few. (There are at least two here in central Korat and several others on the highways leading in to the city.)

  12. Why bother worrying about the price after you've already bought it? If you're happy with what you got then forget it. You're always going to find someone who got it cheaper or knows where to buy it for less.

My mother-in-law drives me nuts with this. If I buy a plastic cup for 5 baht she undoubtedly knows where to get it wholesale for 3. But, then again, she's Chinese and this is to be expected....

  13. I guess the question is, what has Mark really done during his political career? Sure, he has that boyish charm and he speaks well, but he just doesn't have any sort of track record. I think that's why his support in polls hovers around 30%; people just haven't seen enough to have any confidence in him.

(I hope that his sexual orientation and marital status are beside the point....)

  14. Ms. B does a remarkably good job and, being Chinese, is loathe to pay anyone to do the job.

Fortunately, I'm so bad at it that I don't need to participate.

I had a Toyota pickup truck on Saipan that I only washed once in ten years.
