    DOCUMENTATION

    1. I am an expat living and working in Thailand, do I have to submit an insurance policy document?

    - Yes

    - Expats living and working in Thailand under a valid visa or residential permit are required to provide proof of insurance coverage in Thailand with a minimum coverage of 50,000 USD or a valid social security card or certified letter from their employer.

    - Thai nationals are not required to provide proof of insurance coverage as they are covered by Thailand’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) scheme.

    2. Does my insurance have to be a COVID-19 insurance in order to register with Thailand Pass?

    - No. You can also use general insurance or health insurance with a minimum coverage of 50,000 USD.

Like many others, I am somewhat confused by the requirements requested by the Thai Govt for entering Thailand.

I know there will be many different circumstances to suit various travellers, but unfortunately I have not found any detailed information to fit my situation, and I would think that many others would have similar concerns.

I entered Thailand on an OA visa 13 years ago....the visa was obtained in Sydney.

I have extended my visa every year since then on a 'retirement' basis.

A few years ago I decided to change my reason for extension to 'marriage', as I finally formalised my marriage to my Thai wife.

Because of this circumstance, I do not need to have any medical insurance.

I believe that I am able to take care of any medical issues that may arise here....as I have so far.

The main issue is that I cannot find an answer to is, if I return to Australia for a few weeks with a Thai reentry permit, what am I required to do on return to Thailand..??

Do I need the $50,000 Covid insurance..??....and if so, what period do I need it to cover..??

I note that in question 1 in the above 'I am an expat living and working in Thailand' it states that insurance is required.....but does this only refer to people 'living AND working'...??.....I am retired and not working.

As I mentioned earlier, I am sure that there would be many others with similar circumstances that would like to be clear on our obligations.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.....thanks in advance.

  2. Hi Peter....thank you so much for your clear and comprehensive information....very much appreciated.

I am sure that it will help me when it is time for me to decide what option to take, but I suspect that a renewal of my OA based on MARRIAGE will be the best path for me.

As I mentioned earlier, I was not aware that this was possible.....but I think I will visit my local IO prior to make sure that they are aware also  ????

I really think that we expats should have some 'formal collective' here in Thailand to assist and to represent us when needed....you'd make a good president..!!!  ????

Thanks again for your help....hope that I can repay in some way later....

    Cheers

  3. Hi Peter Dennis....

I am also hoping that you can also assist me with some guidance based on your experiences.

Like many others I am nearing the point of decision making with regard to the renewing my OA Visa.

I have been living in Thailand for the last 12 years on an OA Visa based on retirement.

I obtained the visa in Australia and it is is due for renewal in September.

In the past I have renewed my visa each year by way of financial requirements at my local IO in Rayong.

Now of course the rules have changed.

I understand that if I am to renew my OA visa I will need to have medical insurance as required.

I have looked at this and agree totally that the best option for me to get by would be to take out the low cost LMG cover...only to comply with Immigration.

However, I do think that in the long run my better option would be to let the OA run down and look to obtain an O Visa.

I should also add that I am now married to a Thai lady.

This is where I am hoping that you can assist.

I note in your earlier message you mention that if you are married to a Thai, there is no need for medical insurance....have I read this correctly..??

I have never heard this before.....but good for me if correct I think.

I was also hoping that you could guide me through the hows amd wheres etc to approach the procees of obtaining an O visa.

Hope that you can assist me with this....there's no rush of course and would greatly appreciate any information that you can give.

    Thanks and regards.....

  4. You could use the blue book along with a utility bill in your name to prove you are living there.

What they are wanting is proof of residence.

    Thanks for that.....much appreciated.

I did have the usual bills, TOT, True etc with me but they requested the tabien baan or statement from the house 'owner'.

My reluctance to produce this is if the status of purchase/ownership is questioned.....if you get my drift.

    Thanks again.......

  5. I am hoping that someone can assist me with some advice.

I have just purchased a new car and am wanting to obtain a residence certificate to enable the car to be registered in my name.

I have visited the local immigration office and was advised that I need a tabien baan to be able to do this.

This is where I become uncertain of my position.

I bought a house some time ago in a company name and have on hand a blue tabien baan relating to the house....the book is blank other than first page.

Given the circumstance, would it be appropriate for me to produce this book to the immigration department, or would it not be an issue to them..... ???

I have been living here for a number of years on a retirement visa.

If you have had some experience with this subject, or are aware of the procedures and possible issues, please let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks ..........

  6. You have a multi entry non immigrant O-A visa and it will expire on October as printed on the visa. But you may stay in Thailand until the new permitted to stay date of August 2011. So in July or August 2011 you would make application for a one year extension of stay.

Any travel with return after the October 2010 expiration date must have a re-entry permit before you travel to keep your current August 2011 date alive. If you want to travel and return before the 2010 expiration date you will get a new one year from day of arrival permitted to stay stamp.

Mario and Lopburi....thank you both for your very clear answers, much appreciated.

This is what I thought the situation to be, but I have been confused by varying advice and I didn't want to find out that I was wrong when it's too late.....so thought I should ask the experts.

    Thanks again.

  7. You were talking about a visa, an extension of stay is something else. If you still had a valid visa, you might have had different options.

As said, you can renew up to 30 days before your current permission expires. The extension will start from the day your current permission to stay ends, so you don't lose any days.

Advice is always to extend early, so you have time is something is wrong/missing.

I have a question that I hope someone can answer for me.

What is the critical date for extension of a visa...??

I hold an OA Non Imm. Retirement Visa that is due to expire mid October but due to recent travel out of Thailand I have a stamp in my passport giving me permission to stay in Thailand until August 2011.

Does my visa expire in October 2010 as per original issue or has it actually been 'extended' already when I re-entered Thailand recently.

When do I need to apply for the one year extension..???.....before October 2010 or before the permission stamp in my passport that currently states August 2011..??

I assume that if I leave the country after October 2010, I won't get a one year extension..???

I hope that someone can assist and please forgive me if this question has been asked before.
