  1. I have a comment on each of these two incidents: First, I was interested to see the SA family split up--from training, no doubt. Second, I have an old treatment for tuk-tuk, taxi, mctaxi, van, etc. trash. Get a shopping bag from an expensive store, fill it with worthless trash. Hail your driver of choice, go to a busy destination--shopping mall for example, leave the bag on the seat and tell the driver to wait. If you come back and they are still there, pay them. If you come back and they are enraged because you have left them trash--just chuckle and either pay or fight. If you come back and they are gone, smile. I have used this tactic for years all over SEA and in NYC. Smiled a lot more than I paid.

  2. So he doesn't have to report where he is staying every night to immigration like all other foreigners?

Who says he is in Thailand?

BTW, foreigners do not have to report to immigration where they are staying, that is the responsibility of the accommodation.

Really? Doesn't immigration ask where you will be staying when you arrive, and if you have a long-term visa, are you not supposed to report your whereabouts every 90 days?

The question was 'So he doesn't have to report where he is staying every night to immigration'. The answer to that question is: 'no, no foreigner has to report where he is staying every night'.

Your comments 'immigration form on arrival and 90 days report' have nothing to do with 'every night report'.

Your answer says, "BTW, foreigners do not have to report to immigration where they are staying, that is the responsibility of the accommodation." I might add, if you change addresses, your are supposed to report.

  3. Bottom line, foreigners cannot own property in Thailand (i.e., Thai land and any structure thereupon). Any work-around, even when created by Thai lawyers, is illegal. I do not understand why so many foreigners want to buy what they cannot own--and that does not even consider the Thai penchant for ousting the foreign buyer. If you want a house in Thailand, rent it and pay for it with the rental monies from property purchased in your own name in a country where you can own it, e.g., your own country. Two years ago, I purchased a 2/bdr-2/bth condo in Florida. My mortgage payments are 60% of the monthly rental--so I was making money day 1, and that 40% covers my Thai rental.

  4. ...

Ladyboys never seem to hang around gay bars, but always around straight men bars.

Because gay men are much less likely to be sexually be into people presenting as WOMEN than straight men. Duh!

    RIP to the murder victim.

    There is no excuse.

Not sure where you hang around, but straight man do not get sexually involved with other man, hence why they are straight man.unless mislead or inexperienced to spot a man in frock.

Congrats, your post qualifies for the most ignorant in a very long time

Ignorant? You weren't clear as to what you called ignorant. However, the statement, "Straight man (sic) do not get sexually involved with other man (sic," seems rather direct, to the point, and correct. Is your problem with that statement?

  6. according to the storys you hear pattaya is the biggest hideout for seals, cia and all other spooks. long, long, time ago a "former" cia guy in his 50's was seriously beaten to pulp by two local lady boys.........rolleyes.gif

"according to the storys you hear"

Is this one of those "I hear voices but there's no one there" moments?

"the biggest hideout" In the world? In Thailand? In Fantasy Land? Why are they hiding out?

I've always been amazed at the number of people on TV who seem to believe they have all sorts of information on how the Thai Police operate. Now we find out TV posters are receiving inside information on where "spooks" are hiding ... although I guess their hiding skills are pretty poor if all sorts of "storys" are making the headlines in the Bar Stool Bulletin.

You really need to get out and about more, all these Black Ops types moved down to Pattaya en masse after Washington Square in Bkk closed up.

I hear all the SBS and Navy seal types are working (for a pittance) as dive masters down south

Yeah but us SAS guys laugh at them.

Besides, where is the proof he was CIA? Too many wannabes claim to be just to have a life.

Why? Are the SAS types working as dive masters in the North?

  8. Just made a breakfast of biscuits (scones to the UKs) ground pork sausage gravy, fried potatoes and onions, sunny side eggs, fresh brewed coffee, and a few gin Bloody Marys.

My wife is a wonderful cook--always find a lady who can learn to do things--her cheesecake is the best this side of NYC; her lasagna, ravioli, and connoli leave Southern Italians licking their lips; and her pork chops; standing rib roasts; scalloped potatoes; macaroni, chicken and cheese; snow peas; green beans; and of course split pea and ham soup are some of the best anywhere. Have gained several kilos happily.

Her reaction . . ., she loves them.

  9. Not sure about the radio 4!

If your in Thailand for the GF then bring here over for the complete package, on second thoughts don't!

    Keep the idyllic life idyllic.

I concur the U.K is the best place in the world right now and it's set to continue for the considerable future.

Thailand is o.k for holidays or winter retirement months, but all year round?

    CCC

Aren't you Anglophiles quaint. I wonder how many non-English would even consider England as the best place in the world--unless. of course, you are referring to aliens trying to get the dole; even then, there are better places.

  10. It might help, in order to prevent such accidents, to install 100 meters and 50 meters before the bridge a device with wooden bars hanging at a hight of 2.8 meters. The bus would have hit the bars with a bang and have warned the driver of the danger ahead.

I do not blame the driver too much for his mistake. Imagine you drive the bus at night and heavy rain under an unsecuerd bridge like that. You had to concentrate so hard on the street and might easily overlook the obstacle above your bus. And yes, he concentrated on the leading car infront of his bus. Don't understand why he ran away.

And, as one wrote before, please give a GPS to all bus drivers to help them to find their right way. Would have been much cheaper to prevent this accident, than to pay for the damage of material and loss of face.

To the injured persons, a quick and total recovery.

Wait, you're not trying to be logical are you?

  11. Any news on Thaivisa, and the Thaihaters appears from under their bridges!!bah.gif

Accidents like the one in the OP happens all over the world. Just before moving here, 3 of my customers were killed in a simular accident. Happened in Copenhagen! With a trained driver, new bus (everything in working order), but just like here not familiar with the route.

I anyone should be blamed here, it should be the friendly person, who try to help guiding the driver and didn't think about the low bridge and the too high bus.

Good, at least nobody killed! wai2.gif

I sure am glad no one is blaming the Thai Department of Transportation. There is no need to have standards on bridge and vehicle heights. Yeah, yeah, who is going to enforce it anyway?

  12. The guy I was with that paid the 1500 baht was British, he got charged 1500 and I was charged 1300 ( I'm a British passport holder too ), weird eh? blink.png

Yes, that's weird indeed. Again if I am not mistaken, the regular visa fee for UK nationals is US$35. I have been told that passport holders from Canada have to pay a US$42 visa fee. Are you sure that the other guy showed a UK passport and not one from another country (he might have a dual citizenship, for instance)?

Or maybe you have been lucky if at the border that day, with their particular exchange rate, you should have actually paid 1500 baht for the equivalent of US$35.

At B1500 for $35, the rate would be 48 to 1, really a padded rate

  13. OK...Ok I think we can all agree that the story above was badly published and ackknowledged as to dating.

But that aside, lets look at the facts as stated. They stated that the DNA had been matched to someone and that person identified. They were hoping for an arrest , possibly by the end of the week. Does anyone recall an arrest being made? Does anyone recall the semen DNA matched , identified persons name being made public, or that they had a manhunt out for him?

Would you not think that if they had identified the individual and could not locate him they would have made it public that they were looking for this person of interest and publish it in all the news media.

Whot Hoppened.... Did it turn out to be an untouchable...... seems a good case could be made to that claim......

    or

just another bump under the rug....

No, it just means the British news and police are as bungling as the ones in Thailand

  14. Another major criminal arrest. Amazing.

Sorry, but I live in Southern California and they catch hundreds of Mexican illegals per day. This would hardly be newsworthy.

Obviously they are just trying to scare people into not overstaying.

Can't see why they would parade a farang before the cameras like this as though they just busted a major narcotics ring

They're just doing their jobs: 1) maintaining a high profile in tourist-related incidents which will trigger the imagination and engender debate between tourists, hang-arounds, and TV posters . . . .2) Police are supposed to enforce all laws of the land, are they not? So, in accordance with job number one, when you have no real crimes solved . . . .

  15. It is not in danger of being runs by theives

It already is run by thieves whose sole interest i personal gain / profit of themselves, family and friends

I think they are trying to climb the list of most corrupt countries

There goal for 2013 is to crack the top 10

It seems to me if Thailand was nation run by thieves, it would be just like every other nation
