  2. So i got a call today from the landlord of the apartment i am moving into this weekend. he wants 3 months in advance, plus deposit of 10000. its a 6 month contract, and the apartment only costs 6500 per month. so thats 29500 upfront.

Does this sound too high? At my last apartment i paid 2 months upfront plus a deposit equal to 1 months rent. so for this new place i was expecting 19500 upfront.

  3. Yeah, what this country needs is some foul mouthed kitchen Kaiser plastering his face all over our television screens. Gordchai Ramsayattha anyone? Can anyone name a truly world famous restaurant in any neighbouring country? Singapore? China? India? Famous for its food, that is, not for some novelty like the chef stirring the soup with his grandmother's jaw bone, or the food is dropped onto your plate from a helicopter hovering 10,000 feet above you while a rollerskating midget with a shaved head, a glass eye and a crystal ball fires plucked geese at it from a Napoleonic War cannon.

Mind you, didn't Keith Floyd have a place in Phuket? Or don't farangs count?

His restaurant is at Burasari Resort in Phuket. Hard to miss it with his name plastered everywhere, not to mention the 24 hour Keith Floyd channel... Restaurant was usually empty so maybe he isn't a huge selling point.

  4. well from your opening post you sound like you have bit of money to splash out on the occasion and if you want to impress. why not go for a couple of racks of lamb marinaded in red wine, rosemary, brown sugar or honey, a crushed clove of garlic, ground black pepper and a teaspoon of redcurrant jelly.

for most, but not all thais it would probably be the first time they would have tried such a different type of meat and from introducing a couple of them to lamb myself ive never had any complaints. in fact quite the opposite, keep getting asked when im going to prepare and cook them it again.

    bloody expensive though !

Some Thais are horrified at the idea of eating sheep. I'm not sure why, maybe they think they are too cute to eat?? same with rabbits...

Lamb is a rip-off here anyway

  5. i think its fairly obvious. are u attracted to a woman twice your age? probably not.

my gf is similar age and earns more than me, so i can confidently say that she does love me.

So what do you do for a job, and what does she do ?

Listen mate, I'm not knocking you, I've known girls earning 150,000 Baht a month, which can be 5 times more than a Farang English Teacher earns.

I knew a girl that worked in sabairoom in pattaya 19 years ago and she earnt lots of money, she kept her German boyfriend in Thailand when he had no money of his own. She used to give him 1000 Baht per day spending money, and that was back in 1991, he had a great time. She was a big earner....

Yet he really loved her, and she loved him. To her, it was just a job.

i'm in enviro science and she is a lawyer at a bank. my point is that money appears to be a common theme in divorce stories around here. so i figure i'm a better chance if i take money out of the equation.

yes i know thai girls who have supported farang bfs in the past. these relationships did not last long of course! my gf wanted to do the same when i told her my concerns about finding work in thai.

  6. I also notice a very significant number of well qualified, very attractive women in their 30s or 40s who have never been married or never had children.

Is there any evidense to suggest that more Thai women that in the West give up motherhood or marriage to pursue a career?

i doubt it would be more, but there are many thai women who are very career driven. i've met a few with good careers but totally clueless about dating and relationships, apart from what they see on tv...

p.s. you shouldn't believe everything you read on a dating website :)

  7. looks like it is close to siam shopping area (expensive). it is hard to get an apartment for a reasonable price if u stay less than 6 months. there are a few places around victory monument bts, maybe 20000/month for 2 bedroom on 6 month contract. plus utility fees.

  8. just go into one of the little travel shops in phuket and they will organise it for u

    wikitravel.org/en/Ko_Phi_Phi#Get_in

i went from krabi to phuket. took a speedboat from aonang to the phuket peninsula then a minibus across to patong beach. took a couple of hours.
