  1. I am fascinated by how the various mechanisms of the neo-liberal regimes have provided you (all of you reading this topic) with a relentance fascination in these sorts of sexual crimes.

Although there was always a narrative within the working classes against such acts (and the middle classes condoning of the corrupt working class culture has gone on since Hogarth), among the middle classes, the literature until only the 1980s was essentially accepting of men with boys (but not girls).

Running through the genealogy of the criming of sex with children, we find the concern with it a very recent phenomenon. Indeed, having sex with a woman with her on top carried a 3 year sentence but a boy a mere 2 years in the post-Roman Empire Christian west europe in some jurisdictions (I read this last week but I cannot recall the exact dates or place, but you get the picture).

So I am left to wonder how the various institutions abnormalised this conduct and how it was demarcated out as the one taboo to give you all a jouissance feeling of disgust.

I came to this forum because I could not work out why there was no new posting in the ever-popular 'farang pub' forum for over an hour. Of course, you are all here. So this topic, that offers such a quick Lacanian moment of enjoyment by denial has give you all the appropriate wet dream for the moment.

it is as inevitable as the rising of the moon, that this taboo will at some point no longer be a taboo and something quite legtimiate now will take its place. I cannot imagine what or how.

But we can see the bizarre obsession with any sexual desire of violence that the Western world has in the last 2 years grabbed. The UK has just made it illegal to possess cartoons with depictions of violence that are disgusting (note the low level of obscenity) that could be reasonably be regarded as sexually gratifying. This is comedy. But it is tragic-comedy, and you are the panto dames playing along with it.

Rather than focusing in on this locus of the institutions of disgust of the neoliberal states you should be fighting for the state to leave you alone. Get off your backs and at least sign up to the CAAN fightback.

Please, you need to change your medication..

I'm familiar with the historical fact of the Roman practices you refer to. But the rest of your post, really

Ah, the irony. You now seek to kill off my criticism by abnormalising my position, with a familiar trope of claiming I need medicating. You need to ask: what are the juridico-medical practices in place that determine what is acceptable and what is not, and therefore what needs medical intervention.

Autism is only regarded as abnormal because it does not meet with the approval of the modern 'cubicle farm' office lifestyle.

I'm beginning to love this fellow and writing style. Bloody hel_l mate, you missed your calling. You should have been a screen writer for ABC or NBC doing sit coms for audiences that actually care about your mumble jumble. Bloody brilliant mate, brillaint.

Wow, an impressive piece of literature there, mate. It seems that you do a lot of research in sexual taboo's. It also seems that you have a foggy perspective of what is ethically accepted and not. It's best that you keep your "Wall Street" journalistic quotes to yourself and actually show some compassion to this issue.

  3. That guy def has mental disorder of sexual preference, fetish. He really sickens me. As for the mother, I do feel really sorry for those who are poor, but...... sell her own daughter???? A kid??? Have no idea how people like that can live with themselves..... really hope people like that deserve to be punished & I'm sure they will, Gotta belive in Karma, it might come late, but it arrives eventually!

sorry i must be mistaken. I read that he gave the mother some money. Now the mother wants to take cival action. how does that work ? sell your kid. the have the person arrested after the kid has been assaulted.

i am not sure what sickens me more. the mother or the rapist. or both ???

Agree- the mother is a criminal... I am sure lawyers touted their services to make it click that she will benefit in court by HER actions. Now how the court treats this supposed mother will be very interesting. As she did in fact sell her 8 yo daughter.

Let's face it- if she never offerred her daughter for $20 then this ONE incident would not have happened. Obviously he (If guilty) like others he would have found other means to satisfy himself illegally.

Karma looks to have come a bit late for many...

Poor or not, there are morals that spread around the world and chidren SHOULD not be subjected to any act that takes away from their youth. Last month, while waiting at a red light in a taxi at the corner of Silom and Sathorn, a young girl (8-10 years old) weaved about cars trying to sell merit flowers. An older lady knocked on my taxi door window and regardless of the taxi drivers demands not to communicate, I did. She suggested that I could take that child for 500 Bht. She didn't say for what, but I closed the window knowing what she meant, This scene happens everywhere and there is no policing to prevent it. To fix this problem, law officials need to remove the attempt to stop the action.

  4. I really get annoyed with the constant berating of Thai society I see on this page. I understand the Thais have different values than we do. The legal system is corrupt, as were all of our legal systems at some point in history. Every EXPAT residing in Thailand is here VOLUNTARILY, and most of you because your MONEY is more valuable here than at home. Even the highest minded person on this page likely takes advantage of his privileged status within Thai culture, and yet you seem to be the first to berate the Thais for aspiring in their own way to attain a small piece of what you have. I am not one of those pie eyed tourists infatuated with Thailand, having never left Sukhumvit. I have been here for some time, and I have seen all the good and bad Thailand has to offer. The bottom line is, as distasteful as I find some aspects of the culture, and as baffling as I find some Thai behaviors I realize that this is THEIR country. I have to conform to their value system, they do not have to conform to mine. Please I ask all of you economic refugees to stop taking your bitterness out on the Thais. They are living their lives, their way, in their country. We are all guests, and alot of us seem to forget it.

Mate... Selling your daughter to a foreigner for a few bucks is ethically accceptable??

Sure, we have to conform. And the fact is that having sex with a child is still considered illegal here, and immoral too, as strange as you can find. So, where aren't we "conforming" here? Spare us, please.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding your term "conforming". It seems that you believe it's ethically correct for a parent to sell a child for deviant acts in Thailand due to the foreigner influence here. I hope I am wrong in my thinking.

  5. Since people in this Country will consider money more important than other values, this and other misdeeds always happens more and more.

    :(

Agreed mate. This statement troubles me....

Jean-Claude Chamoux was arrested after police burst into his hotel room in the Thai resort of Pattaya in 2005 just after he raped an eight-year-old girl to whose mother he had paid 20 euros (26 dollars), court documents alleged.

If the mother agreed to a financial term for her daughter to go with this man, she knew what was about to happen. Therefore, this mother should also be tried for delivering an under-aged child with the intent of sexual activities. As sad as this story is, we witness child abuse everyday here being at the corner of an intersection selling merit flowers or begging at the steps of the BTS stations.

  6. I go to Mahachai often in Samut Sakhon. The elephants cause havoc in the evenings as they stroll down the main roads near the food stalls causing traffic to back up and making motor bikes dodge even more throughout traffic. A few months ago I saw a pick-up hit an elephant (bumped actually) and the elephant went into a sort or defensive rage. It could have been a lot worse and I am certain that in the past it has happened. Elephants don't belong on these streets now. It's honestly cruel to walk an animal of this size in places that just don't allow safety or comfort for the animal and people.

  7. People...and tourists...luv elephants. Now we can get a 10000baht fine for helping keep them alive. That sucks!

It's a clear "cruelty to animals" issue here.. If tourists want to see elephants in Thailand they can at zoos of travel north to the forests and elephant camps. A concrete jungle is not a place for a free roaming elephant, regardless on how much tourists "luv" elephants.

  8. Does anyone know if Bangkok Post site was shut down? Haven't been able to get the site to load. Was wondering if this was a precursor to anything to happen or happening. Thanks! My wife is there in Bangkok, thats why I have been monitoring it.

Things are a little crazy right now. Internet has been flooded, censorship has been top priority, and mobile networks are being shut in sensitive areas. The last BKK Post article I read was a couple hours ago. I'm sure your wife is safe, but media and communications are jammed. I live on Sathorn, an ear shot away from Silom. I can still faintly hear the odd bang and shot. It's going to be a long night and probably a long time before the air waves get clear.

  9. Agree with most posts here. This is an excellent opportuntiy for both sides; the UDD can pack up and go home waiting to win the next election and the currect government can take the next few months and repair the damage to Thailand. However, as hopeful as I am, I know that the subborn leaders of UDD will turn down this offer because they will want to achieve their previous demands on dissolving government now. The only way I truly believe this issue will be resolved is if the government dissolves tomorrow or the army plows in killing multiple protesters. Stubborn people are stubborn for a reason. I sincerely hope UDD take this offer and return back to a normal life.....

  10. If all, multi/yellow act instead of just talk they can easily kick the peasants back to the paddies.

I can't believe I am seeing this type of thing written, or perhaps sadly I can having seen some of the comments on other threads.

The current problems in Thailand are very sad, the problems with some TV members is almost sadder.

Agreed mate. Writing rubbish like that only proves the immaturity and stupidity of some people….. There’s a good quote I often fall back on, especially after a round of beers with the boys…. “It’s better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool then to speak and remove all doubt”….

  11. Thank you everybody for showing how incompetent the government is in this country. Honestly, as much as I don't think Thaksin should come back, he would have the balls to do something about a situation like this. Unlike the current PM who sits in his office and gives empty threats of a crackdown. Maybe the reds are right. Abhisit has sure shown it the last few weeks that he's unfit to handle any critical situations. How can a government be in power that can't even maintain order in its nations capital.

I’m not disagreeing that the current government is showing incompetency, but that is not really the full reason to this ongoing dilemma. What Thai military, law enforcement, and government have in common is a passive nature that reflects on the entire nation. Thai’s are typical passive in manner and would go to extremes to avoid a physical confrontation. As a result, protesters are allowed to carry on, push the limits and press their luck to achieve their goal. Indeed a sterner government is needed to end this conflict.

  12. I have a hard time seeing the yellows being able to pose any kind of threat to the Reds, it seems the Reds would have them way outnumbered and it wouldn't even be remotely close.

I totally disagree with that statement. The Yellow Shirts are backed by the general population suffering from this protest. If any confrontation were to happen between the two groups, the Yellow Shirts would indeed gain support from the multi-coloured shirts along with the angry citizens that have had enough of this fiasco. In the end, the Red Shirts would be greatly outnumbered.

    Aung San Suu Kyi

'A new government coming to power under a constitution drawn up by the military will never be stable,' he cited her as saying. 'We do not need to see very far. We just see Thailand,' she said. 'Thaksin was an elected person. The military seized the power from an elected person. The constitution was drawn up by the military,' she said.

'After that, what happened with the first (government)? It was not stable,' she said of the short-lived administration that followed the coup. 'This was a result of the constitution being written by the military.'

Now that is an interesting twist to the current events... Let's post more smiley moments.......
