  1. I will preface this with I haven’t been there since covid broke out, but if I were in Chiang Mai and in the mood for music and a drink, I would be searching online for current info on:

Boy Blues Bar - I am guessing Boy would want this to continue after his passing

         North Gate Jazz

Mai & Chiang Mai Blues - If I am not mistaken I think Mai used to play with Tuk

Sudsanan - used to be a place to eat, drink and watch local Thai musicians that was on Huey Kaew Rd. They moved to Canal Rd. And I think they are still opened.

  2. Boy - We have fond memories of you at your current and previous location. We always loved your enthusiasm, warm personality, great smile and, of course, the music. RIP.

  3. I have been traveling and just got back to check on my transfer.

The domestic wire transfer from Schwab brokerage account to Bangkok Bank NY worked.

In the US,  I paid a fee of $15 to Schwab and I assume the $5 fee to Bangkok Bank NY was paid.

In Thailand, I assume I paid a 200 TB fee (I transferred a little less than 2000 USD).

So I was curious about the rate. Assuming the above items, I calculated a rate of 32.67 TB to 1 USD on January 27, 2023.

Regarding setting up anything with Fidelity, I had been on the phone with Fidelity customer service previously. I did not like what I heard.

Schwab made it easy. They gave me the information I needed to do it online so I did not have to make a phone call. However, I might have tried an International wire had I seen "Thailand J's" reply above (which would have saved me the $20 in fees).

Thailand J - Do you just have to provide bank name, account number and account owners' names for an international wire? Do you wire in USD?

  4. Thank you everyone for your advice and information. Here is what I am trying:

I decided to do a domestic wire to Bangkok Bank New York since it sounds like this worked for someone recently.

I am highly annoyed with Fidelity at the moment because I could not see any information on whether or not I can provide the information needed for Bangkok Bank New York.

I went to the Schwab website which allows wire transfers from the brokerage account not the checking account, but said you could just transfer from the checking to the brokerage account. They have a $15 charge for this service. I was able to input additional information like branch and address. Anyway, I hope it works and thank you again. I really appreciate the input and will start looking at stuff like wire.

  5. Advice needed: What is the best (economical and efficient) way to transfer money to my Thai Bangkok Bank account from the USA?

I have not kept up with the banking changes since my last transfer in 2018 and I found that Fidelity removed my link to Bangkok Bank for a transfer.

I started to setup the account again, but I see that changes where made 2019/2020 and most likely my transaction will be rejected.

Any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated.

  6. Is the address "125 Chang Phuak Road Sri Poom Muang District Chiang Mai 50200"? Sorry, I am in the USA and it seems my bank lost eft instructions that have been on file for years.  Details on the instructions need to provide the address of your Bangkok Bank Branch in Thailand for International ACH.

  7. Yes, agree. Fresh bamboo shoots can be found at the local fresh market or at a grocery store. I just checked and Tesco Lotus has bamboo shoots in a brine, but it is in a plastic bag. I think I have seen them in a jar too.

Not sure where to find water chestnuts, but most likely you can find it fresh too.

Also, you might be interested to know that cloud ear fungus can be found at the local fresh markets.

  8. There is a Land and Houses moo baan off canal road called Siwalee Klong Choi. It had very good security, pool and restaurant. I would say the best moo baan that we lived at in Chiang Mai.
Baan nai fan 2/3 has pool, fitness room and restaurant. A few years ago, I even saw that they now operate a spa.

I do not remember much about Koolapunt 7.

Regarding public transportation, there is RTC Citybus which I last used a year and a half ago to get from near city center to the airport and back. They have multiple routes.

  9. Dr. Thanyalak Pansotthee (Nickname Dr. Lee) at CIDC in Chiang Mai. We like her and had to find her when she moved to different dental company.  However, if you need root canal or other specialist work, you will be referred to someone else.   Also, we saw a man at Grace Dental that we liked, but we cannot remember his name...

Maybe of interest... We have not been there, but awhile ago (a few years), we heard there is live music at Roadhouse Chiang Mai and you probably know about Boy Blues Bar already.
