The 400k baht has to be in the bank for 2 months on the day you apply for the extension. It would have to of been in the bank on March 25th to be the correct day.

Here is my list of documents for the extension. Marriage Extension Requirements 2.pdf

Great, thanks for that pdf! Yeah, May 27th is the 60th day since funds were deposited.

You could apply on the last day...though it is not recommended in case of any problems with documentation

They may ask for an updated Kor Ror 2  marriage registry entry  which is available from your local Amphur office

    No

You'll need to supply a Thai witness when the immigration officers come to visit you at home.

As per usual T.I.T so your mileage may vary depending upon which immigration office you have to use.

awesome, thank you for your response!

  3. Will be needing to extend my visa which is based on marriage to a Thai national and have a few questions.

My current 90 day visa is set to expire on June 9th - my 400k will have been in the Thai account 60 days from May 25th, so will applying on that date leave enough time to process the extension before the visa expires?

Does the marriage registration document need to be updated or is the original document what they are looking for? An affidavit stating that we are still married is also needed?

Address upon entry on the TM 6 stated my mother in law's address - but we never stayed there - went straight to ASQ then moved to condo same day of leaving ASQ . Landlord of condo did the TM30. Any other forms necessary for to show this or immigration will see the TM30 in their system?

Are they asking for covid insurance?

Anything else besides the application, copies of my passport, wife's Thai ID, bank statement showing 400k going back 2 months w passbook update. Map and photos in residence?

    Thanks in advance!

Great to know they do this, sounds like a good way to speed up the process indeed.

By the way what template do you plan to use for the fit to fly certificate? I plan to get one from Donna and one from some physician in the US (and the one in the US has no clue what to write on the fit to fly certificate)

FYI, as promised the officer at the LA consulate emailed me my visa today and I promptly applied for COE and now have it. All my docs were in order so actually received the finished COE in less than 2 hours. So if your docs are in order you should be good.

Thanks for the information! it is quite a mystery to me why visa or CoE aren't processed right away by most embassies/consulates since there is almost nobody entering Thailand nowadays (~1% of what it used to be).

March 12 on my side, and the consulate received my application this morning. If only the LA consulate could provide some slightly more precise time estimate for processing visa/CoE!  I wish I could apply to the visa exempt CoE in parallel to the visa+CoE application, however I am afraid it might derail everything (the consulate wouldn't tell me  if that's possible to apply to the visa exempt CoE in parallel). So I might just "sit tight and wait", to quote the embassy consulate  I last spoke with.

same here, they received mine this morning as well. Spoke with the operator and she basically told me the same thing. She said they may get to it this week or it may not get to visa section until next week, no details...just wait and see

No, same as you as I sent my passport last week (last Friday, but I see that my passport is still the USPS center near me, so it increasingly looks like I won't to be able to make it for my flight in 2.5 weeks). Turns out for the instructions of the visa application, I didn't look at the Thai LA consulate website, only at the Thai DC embassy (I didn't expect the Thai LA consulate website to have their own instructions, they should better work on processing visas instead of playing copy pasting). No wonder why we get so much incorrect/contradictory/outdated information with the amount of duplication there is amongst different Thai websites.

One of my remaining points of confusion is that the Thais keeps saying that "e-Visa and COE processing time is 15 business days" (e.g on https://thaiconsulatela.org/en/stv/) and at the same time for COE alone (e.g. when one use the visa exemption), they also say it takes 15 business days (https://thaiconsulatela.org/en/visa-exemption/). And also I wonder if it is possible to apply for CoE via visa exemption while the visa is being processed (rationale: if CoE via visa exemption is approved, I cancel my visa application and ask them to send me back my passport). I tried to ask the question to the Embassy but they couldn't understand. The entire process is such a pain. The Thai tourism industry should really try to influence the Thai embassies to make the process more smooth.

My passport arrived in LA just yesterday and should arrive to the consulate today. I too am thinking about asking them to just send it back right away without doing the visa and go the visa exempt route to save time. My flight is on March 11th so is there still time for them to process the non-o, send my passport back overnight return envelope(assuming USPS doesnt delay it again)and do the COE? Seems unlikely at this point. And I got approved thought the initial online application(step 1) back on Feb 9th. Then they sat on that and didnt request supporting docs until Feb 17th, and only after I emailed them asking whats going on.

Same here, same regrets! High five if you also had to redo the online visa application due to the change of website last Thursday (which was not mentioned to me when I called the LA embassy last Wednesday). So many things already went wrong in this application process!

By the way I am curious, what instructions did you follow to prepare your mail to the Embassy? The instructions from https://thaiembdc.org, the instructions from the e-appointment PDF or the instructions from the visa  application websites? All three sets of instructions were widely different. Also did you try to call the LA embassy to get some ETA?

I followed instructions on the LA consulate website. When I went to the website to read the list of supporting docs to send I saw the announcement of the new online application system too and that confused the hell out of me. But since I already had done the application online(step 1) I just followed what they said and sent in my passport and all docs and $ by mail. Now waiting for them to receive the passport, hopefully tommorow. Did you get your visa back already? if so how many days did they take to process? You just waiting on COE now er? Glad I found someone in the same situation to share info with, very helpful!

I am exactly (100%) in this situation. The LA Embassy vaguely says it takes at least three weeks. (and they aren't clear when the counter starts: is it from the time we pay for the online application? from the time they receive the passport? No clear answer) Anyway I told them that since they can't tell me a clear timeline I might miss the flight and they told me ~"too bad, then you have to notify us about the change, and it will take at least one week to process". I assume that this is either a new CoE, or an amendment to the existing one.

FYI I went to 2 USPS offices today, including where my mail is currently located, and they have no clue when packages will be delivered.  (~" could be tomorrow, in a few days, next week"). And they won't give me back my mail either.

Anyway are  you even sure that you'll get your passport back in time? Also I assume that you applied for a visa (hence the requirement to send the passport by mail) and that you haven't applied to the CoE yet?

USPS + Thai consulate = dream team...

Yeah, I applied for a visa, guess I should have just gone visa exempt and applied for the non-o in Bkk, would have saved some time in this. Bummer man, hope it works out for you, and me.

  9. Sent my passport in last week overnight to consulate-general in L.A. Due to USPS weather delays last week my passport and supporting docs have still not arrived and I'm getting a little concerned this delay will cause my fly date to BKK  to come without enough time to get the COE in hand.

My flight and ASQ reservation are changeable but since the original dates were used in the visa application what is going to happen if I dont have the COE yet? Will I be allowed to change the dates on the flight and ASQ or have to do an all new COE application. Pretty sure I will get my passport w/visa back in time, more worried about the processing time for COE.

Anybody been through this? Or more specifically anyone with knowledge of the current turnaround times for the COE after applying?

    Thanks!

  10. Hello, I will be doing my first extension of non o visa based on marriage early next month but I'm still a little

unclear on all the docs that will be requested by immigration.

I will provide support (400k in account over 2 months) evidence with my Thai bank account, what exactly do I request of the bank? A letter or a statement going back x months? This must be dated for the same date I apply at immigration?

In regards to my wife's house registration, she is on the house registration of he family's house in Don Mueang, however we live together in

a condo in Sukhumvit.....do we take photos at the house in Don Mueang or Sukhumvit? Must we also show our rental agreement for the condo?

    Marriage cert

passport photos for my wife also? Ok to apply anytime after 60 days of entry?

If I'm missing anything please kindly fill in the blanks....Thank you!

  11. Hi,

We are a married thai/farang couple that primarily work as contractors abroad, because of our

occupation we are always able to work/travel together, our salaries always being wired to our respective bang accounts in

Thailand. Occasionally we do contracts in Thailand, but make more abroad. We are now wanting to get a home loan for a condo in bkk and would like to hear experiences from any other self employed thai or foreigners.

Has anybody been in a similar situation? Is there a bank that is easier than others for self employed/contractor people?

We can show all necessary docs etc, income statements, contracts, sizable down payment, statements showing very good income for prior 6 months, and future contracts as well, but we are aware that to the bank we may look riskier than an office worker making 15k/month.

Any helpful feedback is appreciated as we have our eye on a property and would like to apply to the right bank instead wasting

alot of time with banks that are not self-employed friendly.

    Thanks!

  12. Hello, I will be applying for a 90 day single entry non-o based on marriage to a Thai national in a few months. Just a little confused with how to deal with my travel plans after receiving the visa.

Will apply for the visa the last week in October at the consulate in the Maldives, where I am currently working with my wife. I will return to Thailand on November 7th, activating the non-o visa. However I must leave again on Nov 13th.  Is it possible to get a re-entry permit allowing me to keep the visa valid so I can re-enter on it when I return again on Dec 13th?

Also, when we would the best time to apply for the 1 year extension? I have heard during the last month, correct?

    Thank you!

  13. I signed a 6 month contract back in June to start employment August 1st at an upscale hotel in BKK. After signing the contract, the HR at the hotel never requested documents from me to start visa/work permit applications. 6 weeks passed and by mid july and they still never asked. I assumed they didnt want to do it as it was never mentioned in the contract.

This didnt concern me that much at the time as I was returning to the US in July and could obtain a 1 year Non-O there. I obtained a 1 year non-o visa based on condo ownership from the embassy in Portland in late July (to my knowledge, Portland is the only place that offers a one year non-o based on condo ownership).

I started the job August 1st assuming the HR knew full well I did not have a work permit since they never even asked to see my passport and apply for one.

3 months go by and now out of the clear blue sky they are asking if I have a work permit, I try to explain to them that even if I did have one in the past it would have been cancelled by now as each employer must make a new application. So now, half-way through my contract they want to do the work permit.

My questions: Can they apply for it using my current non-o visa? (guessing no)

If I must do a non-b can it be converted from my non-o or must I leave and get a new one?

If I have to do a new non-b....that automatically cancels my non-o correct?

I would have preferred that would have gone the legal route, but now since somebody at the hotel didnt do their job I am faced with having to get a visa that will be canceled Feb 1st when my job ends, instead of having the 1 year non-o, giving me 15 months until oct 2014.

Is there any way to fix this where both parties would be satisfied?

  14. I will be leaving hospital tommorow after a 4 day stay. I know they will be wanting to give me meds for my recovery.

My question is this: must I buy the meds from the hospital (which are always more expensive), or is it possible to have them give me a prescription which I can fill at a pharmacy outside at a considerable discount.

Not sure what the meds may be...most likely just a powerful antibiotic.

    Thanks!
