  1. Many of the major office and other buildings, including Pacific Place, have been doing this for years.

It helps to prevent water being dropped all over the shiny tile floors and causing a major slipping hazard when we have rain.

They normally put down mats inside the entrance so that people can knock the water off their shoes.

We also do that at the entrance to our house as we have a tiled portico which can be a serious slipping hazard when wet!

  2. Details for application given in post #3 by Lite Beer.

    TRENDY BUILDING 28th Floor,

    Sukhumvit Soi 13

But you need to make an appointment first.

Be careful on the UK Embassy website, (passports), there are very specific requirements for passport photos re:size and dimensions of face and background colour.

On application I was told 6 to 12 weeks but received confirmation to collect new passport less than three weeks after application.

VERY helpful staff and excellent service.

  3. I believe that the matter of so many police and others being moved to "Inactive posts" rather than sacked has something to do with the employment laws in Thailand. It is very difficult to sack ANY personnel after they have served a certain minimum length of time in their employment. It then takes very serious proof of misdemeanour or other before they can actually be dismissed. I MAY be mistaken, there is a first time for everything.

  4. What happened to the "First Car Buyers Tax Rebate?".

My sister-in-law bought , and paid in full, a new car in October 2012 . In November 2013 she received 50% of the rebate due but since then nothing.

I know that there were comments made earlier this year that all outstanding payments would be cleared by end of June 2014 but today she has received nothing further.

  5. Hi folks,

Is there some problem with the First Car Tax rebates that you know of? My sister-in-Law bought her first car in Oct 2012. About one year ago now she received a 50% rebate but since then nothing. Is there a problem with this rebate as they stated in the press earlier this year that it would all be cleared by the end of June this year?

  6. This is the latest in a series of fraudulent activities involving personnel of Thai banks.

When questioned the banks state that all their staff are vetted and therefore thoroughly reliable.

Why and how then is private and personal information obtained by the numerous scammers who have been reported, and some caught, over the last year, all recorded on this forum?

The public have a right to know WHICH banks are being investigated in these matters.

Why was it left to AMLO, in September 2013, to issue a warning about frauds being carried out on individuals. Surely the banks should have been the first to warn their clients of these activities? Yet I have seen nothing but facile excuses and lame explanations from banks, some of whom do not respond to requests for cooperation with the police when a scam is reported or indeed, reply to complaints until hard-pressed by repeated mails.

  7. I use an I-phone.

I frequently receive nuisance calls such as 119 which I can of course ignore. However, I have received a number of calls with "unknown" as the identity, naturally I ignore them.

I have recently received a number of calls which are purportedly from places as diverse as Chicago and NYC USA, at least one of which used the Int'l code +63, Phillipines in my estimation.

Others do not have international codes and many give either numbers which are identical to Thai Mobile numbers, or give a series of "0000" as the identity.

Due to the large number of spam and scam calls which are occurring at present, can nyone throw light on why or how the correct code and number does not appear?

When questioned, i.e. to a caller who said he was calling from Japan, his explanation was, "I do not know how your Thai telephone system works."

    Any suggestions?

  8. My Thai sister-in-law bought a new car in Oct / Nov 2012 under the above system.

In Dec 2013 she received a rebate of 50,000 Baht for the purchase of a Mazda 2, cost approximately 670,000 baht for which she paid in cash, in full. She was under the impression that the rebate should be 100,000 Baht.

Is there a problem with this system. and does it also apply to the First House tax rebate?

    Just curious!

  9. Oh Really! Do you have an English Passport?Where can I get one?

My understanding of "Farang... Falang" is that it is simply a corruption of Farnagsais as for French as they were one of the Western Nations who had earliy strong associations with Thailand.

Like many descriptions it can be perfectly neutral or insulting depending on the context in which it is used.

By the way OP, where can I get a Chang T-shirt and som croces please?

  10. Me. I am a Scotsman, therefore an ethnic minority in the U.K. I feel quite at home here.

Nearly three and a half thousand black people were reported to have been lynched in an 87 year period in the USA - that not enough for you? Are you forced to sit at the back of the bus here? Are Western children in Thailand forced to go to separate schools? Are Western employees of Thai companies routinely beaten for no good reason? If you think the way you are treated here is anywhere near the same as the way black people were treated in the USA in the 50s, you are completely insane. Stop behaving like an overly sensitive old woman and man up for pity's sake.
. OMG 3,500 people killed in 87 yrs by crazy people, that many die every holiday in Thailand. The post is not about being a man. i suggest rather than pushing some agenda try sticking to the subject which you have yet to offer an opinion on.

You are the one with an agenda. How many white people do you know of that have been lynched in Thailand?

Do I think Thai people are xenophobic? Yes, but no more so than visitors from overseas like yourself who cannot cope with being in an ethnic minority and start making ridiculous comparisons to the way black people have been treated in the past.

  11. I have just read the new visa regulations issued by Nongkhai Immigration in April 2004.

I already have a one year visa for support of Thai wife and child and have proven circa 900,000 THB in Thai Bank account. Didn't prove pension as I was still working but lost my job because they would only give me a forty day extension instead of re-issuing my visa, (I had to be away for something like two to three months, you know how jobs can go).

I could obtain no explanation for the refusal to re-issue visa and I am now told that the new info on the Nongkhai site is wrong and has to be corrected. Does ANYONE have any real idea of what the new, definitive regulations are?

    I am British aged 67. :o
