ALASKA MOTORCYCLE NIGHT IN CHIANG MAI, THAILAND TO FEATURE WORLD'S FIRST ADVENTURE RIDERS FROM ALASKA 1938
The first motorcyclists to ride from Alaska to the "Lower 48" accomplished their amazing feat in 1938 on two BSA motorcycles. Their grueling adventure took over six months to complete, a motorcycle ride that today can be easily done in four-five days.
Slim Williams and John Logan piloted, pushed and pulled their BSA motorcycles through deep Alaska bush, floated them across streams and drove the last 600 miles with their motorcycles lashed together side by side so their dog could ride on a platform between the two.
Famed Golden Triangle motorcycle driver, Dr. Gregory W. Frazier, will present pictures and a film of the incredible 1938 Alaska adventure. "Dr. Greg" is a well-known globally as a respected author, photographer and moto-journalist. He has traveled to and from Alaska 27 times and ridden the treacherous Dalton Highway to Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay on 10 of those adventures. His bestselling book, ALASKA BY MOTORCYCLE and accompanying DVD are known amongst many Alaska bound adventure riders as the "bible" on how to prepare for and successfully complete a ride to the furthest points north and northwest on the North American continent.
Frazier has been recognized as America's #1 extreme adventure rider for his five circumnavigations of the globe by motorcycle and numerous adventures spanning nearly 50 years and over one million miles of racing and riding motorcycles literally to the ends of the earth. www.trail-dust.com and http://alaskamotorcycle.blogspot.com is where some of Dr. Frazier's Alaska works can be found. As the Chief of the World Adventure Affairs Desk at CITY BIKE magazine (San Francisco) Frazier was quoted as saying when asked about advanced motorcycle adventure in Thailand's Golden Triangle, "I hate adventure that has anything to do with snakes or sharks!"
ALASKA MOTORCYCLE NIGHT IN CHIANG MAI, THAILAND will be held at the new motorcycle themed Rider's Corner Bar, Restaurant and Hotel and starts at 6:30 PM, February 16, 2011. Located at 357, Moon Muang Road, on the inside corner of the moat, the Rider's Corner has fast become the meeting point for serious motorcycle riders in the Golden Triangle area. The price of the BBQ is 200 THB, and the evening presentation is free. Space is limited and reservations are required. Also, re: a question related to one above: I plan to ride my motorbike to the bridge. Is there parking there, paid or unpaid, to leave the motorcycle for the hours needed to stamp out, take the bus, secure Lao visa, turn around, stamp out, take the bus back and then stamp in to TH?
