  1. Ok, I have noticed an increased speed on my GPRS-Edge connection. Now it says "H" instead of "E" on the screen of my mobile. A speed test revealed around 300k up and 300k down. Hardly 3G, but definately an improvement on Phuket. Fingers crossed for some real connection.....

  2. Hey there

Sairee may be a bit noisy for someone that age group B)

I'd go for Master Divers. They actually care for their students.

OP didn't say when he was going. From around now and some weeks on, the island will be super busy and it's not the ideal time to visit (power cuts, mad traffic etc)

Good luck. It's a lovely island when you pick the right time to visit

    Cheers

You could also look at Seashell Divers in Sairee who are a very good school and they have a lovely resort or if you prefer Mae Haad, then Master Divers who can fix you up in one of their associated resorts like Sensi or the Rocks.

I can recommend both schools, they are both fairly small and only teach in small groups,. which should suit your needs.

  3. Google is your friend ...

Thank you very much. But I used google before I wasted anybodys time. Went and checked the locations out (not all though) and found only ATM's and exchange booths. So is there actually anybody who knows?? Are you the one trying to lead this forum from Chiang Mai?? Jeez!! Helpful bunch here

  4. Hey everybody

I would like to know if there is a branch of Siam City Bank on Phuket island. Have done some research, but only come up with ATM's. And can anybody recommend a decent accountant in the Rawai/Chalong/Phuket Town area?? Trying to move my company from Surat Thani Province to Phuket Province and that not as straight forward as I thought it would be (what's new?? :whistling: ). Any help much appreciated.

    Have a great sunday.

  5. its one of the drugs people take for weight loss

the other most popular being Phentermine. They are NOT baned but are prescription medicatiuons and can be obtained in most countries and even online with an online consultation

Meridia (Sibutramine), is an alternative to Phentermine. It works by affecting appetite control centers in the brain. Sibutramine (Meridia) is the only appetite suppressant / diet pill medication approved for longer-term use in significantly obese patients although the safety and effectiveness have not been established for use beyond one year.

Xenical is a prescription weight loss medication useful for the long term treatment of significant obesity for patients with a BMI of over 30.

Xenical is a weight loss medication that targets the absorption of fat in your body rather than suppressing your appetite. It is useful for long-term use and has been shown to be effective for 1-2 years. Dietary fats are inhibited from being absorbed and this allows about 30% of the fat eaten in the meal to pass thorough the gut undigested. This helps you to reduce and maintain your weight, as well as minimize any weight regain. This medication can also help to improve risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar which, if not treated, could lead to other diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Each Xenical capsule contains 120 mg of the active substance Orlistat, which acts as a lipase inhibitor.

Phentermine is used as an appetite suppressant and works best as part of an overall weight reduction program that also includes dieting, exercise, and counseling

I'm too fat @ 180cm and 97kg. The excess is mostly man boobs and beer belly even though I've cut my beer intake dramatically since a couple of months already. I'm working on it but it's really hard to get rid of. I work out 1.5 hour/day 5-6 times a week and trying to control my eating habits.

Do you know the availability of these drugs in Thailand?

I just looked them up in WikiPedia and except for Xenical they seem to have some serious potential side effects (heart attacks for example). But I guess Xenical is also the least effective of them, right?

    Hey there

Went in to a pharmacy on Phuket ablut 6 months ago and asked for weightloss medication. Sold me Sibutramine (appetite depressant) and Clenbuterol (the one Alberto Contador got busted for) which athletes use to squeeze the last grams of fat off. No questions asked, but the pharmacist recommended I check on the side effects. It worked well, but I lost motivation and stopped. On Atkins Diet now and it works wonders. Most important though - there's no way around cutting down the beers and alcohol in general.

    Good luck

  6. Hey all

From the photo I recognize the guy, and the car fits as well. He was coming from the small soi, just after the gas station, trying to make a right-turn towards Chalong Circle. Thai guy on a motor cycle comes flying out of no where (possibly from the gas station) and hits the car on the right front wheel and smashes his head in to wind screen (no helmet). Thai guy was ok after a few days in hospital. Young farang ok as well. Matter got settled in Police station for a few thousand thb. and insurance covered the rest. Nobody got fleeced.

Got the story from the owner of the car (thai girl, good friend) who had lent it out to the young guy. Had to help her take the car to the garage because she couldn't see over the crack in the wind screen. They said 4 weeks to fix.

So a lucky ending, except for my friend who wont have her car for a while

  7. .................

There is no repellant that works with sandflies that I know of and the only thing to do is avoid them and their breeding areas. So take heed of those that have been to Chumphon and suffered the beaches and you might save yourself the pleasure of their company.

    JAF

    what about coconut oil?

I guess it depends on what you want. If it is a quiet life, good beaches, no farangs, etc. Then perfect! If you want to head into the city every once in a while for some shopping, watch a movie, listen to some jazz, eat at a top notch restaurant, or catch up with your friends and play a game of pool at a first class billiards hall...then it is probably not your cup of tea. As they say, "up to you"!

you mean to suggest that there are no shopping or restaurants nearby?

I'm possibly going to migrate from patong beach down to Chumphon or Chang Mai and wanted to know more information about chumphon. My top priority is high speed internet. I already own Cat CDMA. I will check with the local office, but would be interested in knowing other's experience with private internet.

Also, i am looking for the basics (from my point of view)<br clear="all">

    refridgerator

    air condition

    hot water

    electric

    high speed internet

close to shopping center (like lotus, big c, etc) (under 10 km, if possible)

    visa run service

    motorbike rent/buy

any specifics you can provide would be helpful.

Got a few friends living in Chumpon. They all have hot showers, fridges and everything else you mention. It's certainly not a village. I visit there as often as I can - it's a bit of "real Thailand", a far cry from Phuket. As for living there..... Possibly gonna move there in a few years

  8. Must be some interesting insurance issues when they're involved in an accident. Especially if a farang is driving. Also wondering how many meters a salaeng needs to stop, if loaded with say 200 kg (3 people on it) and driving 50 km/h. Scary that they are allowed on the (main) roads.
