  1. Sorry it's Air Berlin not Berlin Air!

You can find all your answers here..

    http://www.airberlin.com/site/agb.php?LANG=eng&RMT=&POP=1

2.2.3 The baggage allowance for baggage checked in is 20 kg per passenger unless otherwise stipulated in special

security, only one item of hand baggage per passenger is permitted

  2. Hello,

Flown with Airasia 2 times recently, once to Singapore and once to Penang.

Both times the online booking has been a hassle, for the last trip ended up calling them to book a check in bagage.

To Singapore, only me and the Mrs. Booked hot seats but apart from the check in priority nothing special about that (as this was our first trip with Air Asia I just had to give it a go)

did the web check in, arrival at airport, Bag drop off and the rest - no problems.

I even find the prices for food and drinks very acceptable, compared to e.g. Ryanair !

To Penang, even worse online booking trouble. Ended by sending them an email asking why it is not possible to book your seat, add luggage and order meals, all in one transaction, never got an answer.

    This trip we were 4.

For both trips we also used airasia.go, flight AND hotel offers. For the future we will book flights and hotels seperately as we did in the past.

Penang, booked a well known hotel, altough booked for 4 persons, on arrival got a room for 2 persons, 2 single beds in the room. no other room seemed available,

so ended up putting 2 single beds together and pay for an extra bed in the room. Air Asia doesn't take any responsibility or action in case you have trouble with the booked accomodation.

Love to read from other Low Cost carrier for domestic Thai and international flights in the south east asia region, next trips planned are Hong Kong and Australia.

    Cheers !!

  3. Hi, just pulling this old thread from under the dust or sand...

we are in the final stage of moving to Thailand, and looking at your post thought worth while to remind you of your statement and ask for an update :)

We are looking for a 3 bedroom house and a private swimming pool would be very nice...

Kids are planned for St Andrews, but we can still look at Garden international or Regent,

we have a car and the Mrs drives, so where should we start looking ? 25K is an OK price for us.

I made the same experience that it is difficult to find anything online for Ban Chang area,

for Pattaya tons of info available, but we are still hopefull to find something nice in Ban Chang area.

    all info much appreciated

Just got back from Ban Chang yesterday. Spent Saturday and Sunday there trying to find a house. The nice mooban houses were 25,000 and up. We did find a few for 16,000 and even an okay one for 13,000, but it only had two bedrooms. We ended up driving around outside the moobans and found one near the beach for 16,000. It's not exactly what I was looking for, but a bit of tweaking should make it home for at least a year.

We were told by some people we met that if you go on the other side of Sukhumvit (not the sea side) that there are unfurnished houses for as low as 3,000 and average around 7,000. Didn't explore that avenue, though, as with houses and most other things you usually get what you pay for.

That was our first time to Ban Chang, though, so I expect when this rental contract expires in a year we'll have a much better idea of what's out there and where it all is.

  4. Why would you need a Thai Passport for your Job if you have a Thai ID card and your boss would hire you under a Thai contract as you stated ?

I decided to reveal to my boss I had the thai citizenship and he seems willing to give me the same pay while hiring me as a thai.

Back to your question "what to do with your Belgian Passport" nothing YET. Just make sure it does not expire.

Did you think about registering at the Belgian Embassy ? easy for passport renewal when necessary.

When you would travel to EU - you would exit on your Thai Passport and enter EU on your Belgian Passport AND

people in possesion of Dual Citizenship are adviced to present BOTH passports when travelling to avoid misunderstandings (not needing a visa)

as having double citizenship is legal in Belgium, as you probably know.

The Belgische Patateke seems to know what he's talking about... Have some respect for other nationalities...

@ others : For your info, I have the ID and the 'Tabien Baan' so I could get the thai passport.

  5. My family and I will move as well, roughly at the same time. We've got a 7 yo son and a 5 yo daughter.Yes, Regent's is expensive, but it is in my eyes the only school in the region that can make a good first impression, due to its on-the-paper qualifications and the visual effect of the premises.

You can laugh, but that is important too.

I integrated the costs for both children into my budget - it is the highest expense line, 33% of total cost (around 20k EUR).

    Getithere and manarak.

what have you decided ? which school are your kids enrolled in ? or ?

we are moving also this summer and our kids are 7 and 10, hence the interest,

    greetz.

  6. Did you consider Garden International School?

It's the biggest international school in Ban Chang and is of very simlar quality to St Andrews and is indeed situated right in the centre beside the Eastern Star Golf Course. The difference between the 2 is in the details and depends on the age of your children and the style of learning environmetn you want

my suggestion would be to wait till you arrive and check these places out for yourself

Regents is too far anyway and not worth the extra difference nor cost

Yes we considered and are re-considering Garden International (GIS) as it has the advantage of bein close to the beach and not so far out as St Andrews.

Do you have any experience with GIS ? per PM if need be.

Is there anyone else on this forum that has children at Garden Intl ? and could give me some tips, insight, "advice" ?

    Thanks to all !!

  7. Carrefour has financial problems in Belgium, France and other countries.

    Financial problems ? :) Sources ?

The only "problem" that Carrefour has in Europe is that it can build new supermarket fast enough to invest its money, because of new European regulations to limit the number of supermarkets and save the smaller shops.

Its the same problem for all other big companies, like Casino (Big C).

This was on the BBC news some time ago, that they are in trouble.

Brussels, Feb 26 - Workers at all of supermarket chain Carrefour's Belgian stores will strike on Saturday, protesting against job cuts and shop closures the French retail group announced this week.

    Daily News Alerts

"We want to send a clear signal to management and show that workers reject this plan," a union official told Reuters.

The strike will affect all 56 of Carrefour's Belgian hypermarkets and its 62 fully integrated supermarkets.

Carrefour plans to cut 1,672 jobs in Belgium and close 21 stores in the country by the end of June in an effort to fix its operations there, which it called "structurally loss-making".

  9. I did this trip for 2 years taking my daughter to St Andrews from Payoon beach, there is a wonderfull short cut that avoids Ban Chang and most of the trafic at that time in the morning. From the main beach road in Phala head towards the industrial estates, Just after you pass Payoon Garden Cliff condo turn left and head north, when you get to the main sukvit road go straight across ( a slight let and right)

Follow this road thru some realy beautifull hills this will take you to the back of st andrews you just have to go letf then right on the main Ban chang road and your there about 20 mins in all with very little trafic. If your interested in renting a beautifull 3 bed sea front condo I can do you a realy good deal ;-)

Thank you for the answer AND the info !!

I will need some convincing on the Conde "deal" as we are house and garden people, but hey, give it a try !! you never know !

    :)

  10. Hello all,

We are still hesitating between St Andrews Intl - Rayong Campus and Regents Intl Pattaya to enroll our Children.

As we are still in Europe at the moment we are using Google Earth to look at the areas.

AS my wife will be driving the kids to and from school every day, we are looking at the roads involved to get to school.

Here, clearly Regents has a big advantage. Looking at St Andrews I am wondering HOW to get there easily

coming from Ban Chang or Phla (Pala) Beach area.

We would like to live in a Beach area and would prefer to stay clear from Pattaya.

Any members his/her kids attending one from mentioned schools ?

How do your kids get to school ? what roads do you or drivers use ?

Where would be a good place to look for housing if we go for St Andrews ?

I would love to hear from you ! even per PM !

Thank you all for your time and answers,

    :)

(thinking about putting the same post in Pattaya Sub-forum)

  11. Chiang Mai has 6 or so well-ranked international schools, numerous bilingual schools, and countless Thai-only schools.

Blondie, what "list" are you referring to when you claim that Chiang Mai has 6 or so well-ranked Intl Schools ? I am not dscussing that the info is correct, I just would like to know where you have this "ranking" from We are looking at International Schools for our kids as well and I can tell you, that kind of info is hard to find, so if you can enlighten me, please do !!! Thank you !!!

  12. Hi, I just wanted to say thank you to the thread starter and for all the interesting answers.

My family is also in the process to move either to Ban Chang area or closer to St Andrews International School,

if we decide to enroll our kids there.

My wife somehow prefers St Andrews Intl over Garden International School for the moment, so

any input to convince her from the contrary would be welcome ! Thanks !
