  1. Do you really mean "roll up door," the kind you see on Thai shops? Or, are you looking for western style sectional garage doors (aka overhead doors)? For the former, I can't help you. For the latter, they are very expensive in Thailand and I ordered four sets from China (where they all come from anyway).

I would prefer the latter, can you indicate a price?

    Thanks

    B

  2. Have been here a few years and the Thai smile is wearing thin! I live in a small village in Issan and work in another country. LIfe here has been good whilst I have been here (6 months of the year).

But after a few years now I look back and really I should be in another country with my my Thai family. Being here is not educating the kids, in fact it is doing the opposite if that is possible.

With me I am becoming less intelligent as the days go by in the village and look forward to getting back to my work where I have to think!

I only stay here because of my wife's family, otherwise I would have moved years ago. 2014 will be time to move out and increase the intelligence level of the family.

  3. Guys,

I am not at all Apple savey, however I have been thinking of buying a new iPad and need some local advice on this.

I am based in Isaan (a remote village which I believe has 3G.??)

Once I buy the device what else do I need ... Internet connections, which company (DTAC/True etc) and what sort of package do I need. I spend about 4 hours a day on the net and usually do via a dongle with AIS)

Will an iPad give me what I have know on a Win 7 laptop? (MS office, access to Internet, email etc)

My kids also require access to games etc. Do I have to buy those through iTunes or can I get them from other suppliers free?

    Would appreciate your input.

    Cheers

  4. i am aware of two kids (same mother) in the village where I reside who are looked after by their eldely grandparents who are just about past it, after working many hard years in the rice fields.

The mother has moved to BKK and comes back about once a year to see her kids. The father disappeared when the kids were born and has never come back to the village.

Consquently they are brought up by the grandparents who never discpilne them, nor bother to feed them. The mother has moved on to another bf in BKK... Yes they go to the local govt school but anybody who has stepped into a govt school will know that they get a very limited education. These kids have been born to work the fields by the self centred grand parents. These kids life is what you called finished as they have no money not hope for a better education to get thenselves out of this cycle of rut, No doubt they will go on to have kids later and the same thing will happen to their kids. A life in the rice fields of Isaan.

  5. I teach my kids at home in the village and they read/write and speak English. It has become embarrassing for the "English" teacher at their school when she attempts to teach them.. I have taken them out of her class.. just a waste of time.

  6. Damn that girl can shop.

not much to buy on PNG except energy which Thailand desperately needs. How do you propose Thailand access energy suppliers?
Why not the energy minister go alone to do his job. At home she cannot speak on his matters leaves it all to him---BUT a trip abroad and she then goes and does his job--Strange, no -it's called running from most of your duties
To be fair, sometimes having the top dog also there helps to smooth over any last minute sticking points though the deals are already done in most cases. Even the buying of energy is shopping is it not? When our Dear leader' returns from her shopping sojourn she will be armed with a giant stuffed cuddly toy in the shape of a kiwi, a greestone pendent and a promissory note for a couple of million barrels of palm derived oil. In return, the people of PNG get half a million Pok Pok frogs whos main use would appear to be for the gathering of dust.

Could be she is getting a few pointers in corruption from PNG!

She can purchase beetlenut and sell it back in Thailand!

But seriously Thailand could bring another aspect to the resource sector here that would IMO get the other parties a little rattled.
