  1. The impression comes from your comparision with Bush and Blair. To the best of my knowledge, no one has suggested that they are head of the KKK or National Front.

I think he's refering to racism in general to make the point, not saying they are the same, merely that there would be an uproar if Blair for example was to start a party called English Love English in the same vain, which I guess there would be.

  2. I think it was the mention of meeting at the OUTSIDE SEATING AREA that screwed it all up.

I think the next one should start outside the 7-Eleven by the bus terminal at Ekamai and move on to Dave's in Patty... I've never been but it's about time I got out of Bangers for a bit.

P.S. LovelyCutie has a great pair of knockers.

  3. Ambassador, I hope you don't take what I said too seriously. The most absurd thing about all this is that if we ever met in a pub we'd probably get along fine,

I'd like to hope. I made an agreement with myself a few years back that I would never start a conversation concerning politics with someone I just met. If they started first then I would engage, otherwise forget it. I guess this is one of those

catch-22 things; if everybody followed this, nobody would be talking about politics.

We probably would get along fine.

I have met a few Americans out here and too many have been the sort of Americans who wouldn't make you proud and one who I actually became friends with turned out to be a real ###### too which isn't justification to judge all with the same brush I know, but it doesn't help ones view when good experiences are so few.

There was a post a week or so ago that said "We are the best country in the world" or words to that affect, and weather it was said as a wind up or not, I took the bait and it set me off.

You sound like one of the good ones and to be honest, most American expats as opposed to tourists are much more accommodating to an international way of thinking.

Stroll, with all due respect, I don't need you to have a word with me on Saturday - I can fight my corner when needed and I can make my own apologies when I've overstepped the line - I don't recall bad mouthing Germany at any point so let's just keep Saturday as a fun get together which is what it's supposed to be.

If mbkudu and thaihome are coming then they are more than welcome as far as I'm concerned - I don't expect what has been a war of words on a computer screen to be continued face to face with Americans who I can see now are not of the small minded variety and who I'm sure are as decent and likebale as I am. :o

I'm tired of fighting, we've all made our point so shall we shake hands now?

We're all foreigners over here after all.

  4. Why is it that each time we have an intellectual post eveyone wants to follow it?

    If you're a newbie then who's 'we'?

You must be an existing member under a new nick, either that or you're from ajarn.com. 'cause that's the sort of thread Harry Palmer would post.

  5. We Americans don't mind it too much if people hate us; we're almost as bad as the ultimate self loathers, the British. Oh, really I am terribly sorry, terribly sorry!

With your last comment I find it very hard to believe you have ever been to the U.K. and only know what you have seen in movies such as National Lampoons European Vacation etc... or anything with Hugh Grant in it playing, as he almost always does, an apologetic, bumbling English fop.

We are not self loathing but we do admit to being a shit, messed up country - something you people simply can't do, you are always blowing your own trumpet, saying how you're the land of the free and the land of oppertunity, yet you have never had a president who was black, female or gay, and I think you and I both know it's unlikely you ever would.

Read p1p's long posting that is a response to the complaints regarding 'America bashing'.

From what I could gather, P1P is himself an American, and one of the monority who's views I respect as they are not insular and he has actually stepped out of the ring and is open minded and smart enough to see things from the perspectives of others.

It is your ATTITUDE to your country and to other countries which pisses people off, and this is what creates so much hate, enough hate to plan a terrorist attack such as 9/11 - something you STILL haven't learned from or understood because you were too busy saying, "We are the united States of America - how dare you attack us, we are the most powerful country in the world, revenge revenge etc..."

-Cue banners and sympathy and celebrities and tribute concerts... Now don't for a minute think I condone the attacks, but I do understand them because I, and even some of your fellow Americans are open minded enough and intelligent enough to understand WHY that day happened.

Now I feel I have been fair this time and not just trying to wind you guys up, but LEARN to take criticism on the chin - us Brits can for crying out loud, why can't you?

I hope this posting doesn't get me trouble with the mods, but I wouldn't be surprised if we are referred to the Bear Pit for future discussions, but you won't find me in there cause there's no point in discussing this because you're never going to hold your hands up and say, "I suppose I do see your point, it's not a great time to be an American and I'm not proud of what my country has done to the world but please don't judge me on the faults of my country as a whole, we're not all the same". Some Americans do and they get respect for it and people then listen to them and give them a chance, but most don't because you guys can't admit any sort of defeat, faliure, fault or shortcoming.

And that is one heck of an annoyance.

  6. Bangkok is really starting to get on my nerves - I had to wait 45 minutes for a bus this morning (an AC one) and by the time it turned up my green tea was no longer cold and my pork stiks and sticky rice no longer hot. I was very angry, I really had to contain my anger.

I should have stayed in Chiang Mai. :o

  7. My girl absolutly pisses herself when I grab hold of the back of her head and push her face into the half eaten bowl of noodle soup from the previous night.

I also tickle her to within an inch of her life and we have playfights which sometimes go too far, especially when I try to put cooling talc on her vulva. :o

  8. I agree with you 100%, Now to do a really good job.

Why don't you pack up your mates from the most populous areas of LOS, where it seems that it is the only places here that your kind can survive, leave it to the tourists, and return to where you came from and stop all this westernization.

I think you need to read my post again.

By the way, my close mates are nearly all Thai.

  9. BTW, it doesn't take a lot of effort to say no to straws and plastic bags.  Smile and use your hands to wave no to the straws...less than 5 seconds and it works rather well.

I am absolutely amazed how things as trivial as 7/11s giving out straws and plastic bags to customers would be regarded as annoyances. And

    pointless little square reciept
which I have to seperate from my change before I can put it back in my pocket.
Oh my God! It's the end of the world! Just imagine all the stress and time it is going to take!

But if those so-called pointless little square reciept are not being given, I bet a lot of farangs are going to complain about being scammed. Thais just can't do anything right! :D

Yeah yeah *snore* Oh I'm so sick of all these farangs moaning about how much they hate Thailand. Why don't they go home if it's so bad, why do they stay here if they hate it so much... *yawn* Oh you people, do you have nothing better to do than moan etc... etc... I love it here and I don't complain about anything because I'm a model farang.

    Another boring bastard.

Come on, this is a post entitled 'Annoyances' - NOT; I hate Thailand and wish I was back home.

I love my brother very much but he doesn't half piss me off sometimes, do you get what I'm saying?

Now pull off your halo and join in... Slag off mosquitoes or crap taxis or SOMETHING, otherwise don't post if all you're going to do is moan about petty things. :o

  10. Westernisation may well be the cancer of Thailand but it's Americanisation that is the cancer of the west.

The poor Yanks are brainwashed from birth into believing they are the greatest, most powerful nation on earth, only to grow up, venture outside of the U.S. and realise that they are probably the most hated and despised nation on earth.

I am astonished my wee post has caused such a hoo haa, I re-phrased a couple of words but it was too late - the guns were out.

I wasn't trying to hijack the original posting and fly it into the stars and stripes I was saying that the U.S. is the nucleus of westernisation which I agree is going too far. We all like a few home comforts but that isn't what G.Scamp was referring to.

There is nothing wrong with patriotism either as long as it isn't imposed on others, and like many, the anti American feelings are more aimed at the Bush administration. We didn't vote for him did we?

Now let's either stick to the topic or start a new thread to continue this arguement.

Nobody is perfect, we are far from it as a species but at the end of the day, we are all individuals and everyone should be given a chance to explain themselves.

Not all Brits are snobs or football hooligans.

Not all Aussies are fun loving, beer swilling, sheep shearers.

And not all Americans are ignorant, greedy, over emotional, disgustingly obese, dramatic, rude, gullable, false, stupid, immature, arrogant and overly patriotic.

    NOW BACK TO THE TOPIC:

I feel that the brakes should be put on westernisation before it starts to affect tourism.

People want to see something different and Ko Samui is already suffering because many farang feel it has lost a lot of it's charm to globalisation and that it is best kept to Bangkok.

It's understandable that Thailand wants to be sucessful and rich after being previously underdeveloped but surely there are ways to do it without trying to immitate the west.

A KFC on Ko Samet would be a tragedy would it not?.

  11. How come Spiderman can change into Spiderman from Peter Parker in a matter of seconds - does he wear his costume under his clothes 24/7?

Also, there is no evidence that Peter Parker has has any qualifications in costume design, so how did he make his perfect fitting costume and how was he able to afford the expensive red and blue Gore-Tex and nylon fibre and create such a well designed suit, complete with tough black plastic webbing?

His costume also apears to repair itself after being burned, torn or singed, how can this be? He isn't Harry Potter.

If he is so skint, why doesn't he utilize his powers to pay his rent?

Finally, he can shoot elasticated super strength spunk from the veins in his wrists but they stop working in the second movie for no apparent reason.

Other than that, Spidey 2 was a very, very entertaining movie and the villain, Dr Octopus was far better than the wide mouthed, baggy faced and enormous headed Willem Dafoe who played the Green Goblin.

The SFX superceeded that of the first movie and much effort had gone into making the tentacles and the damage they do look real.

Putting aside the offensive and half-educated language, this view, albeit in a less boorish manner, is heard quite frequently. But it is misconceived.Since as a matter of historical record, the United States is indisputably the most powerful nation on earth and with a serious claim to being its greatest (who would be the rivals?), there would seem little point in brainwashing American children to this effect.

Obviously there are legitimate questions about the pervasiveness of American popular culture, current US foreign policy, and the neocon influence on the Bush administration. But I don't believe Americans are generally despised or hated, certainly not in Thailand.Consider the popularity round the world of Bill Clinton or the huge universal sympathy for America after 9/11 for example.Naive sometimes, certainly. However with all their faults since there must be a must be a most powerful nation, we should be grateful it is the democratic and generous spirited US (rather than Germany,France, Saudi Arabia,China,Japan etc) that currently rules the roost.

Incidentally I am not an American

You have made a good point, though the acute bitterness which opens it did lead me to believe you were an American... Slightly hypocritical also if you take the time to re-read your post.

I admit 'brainwashing' should have been replaced with 'drummed into them from an early age', and when I say hate and despise, I didn't say that everybody hates and despises them, I was pointing out that they probably are the most hated country on earth and shouldn't need to say it again.

Is there any other country that to a lesser or higher degree universally pisses people off more?

As for the McDonaldization of the world and the fact there is a demand for it, it doesn't nescessarily make it right.

The majority of human beings - whatever nationality, are misinformed, stupid and lazy and it is in our nature to destroy ourselves anyway, be it in combat, by smoking and drinking or eating the mass produced faeces that is McDonalds.

People didn't demand McDonalds before it existed and I doubt there would be a higher majority shedding tears if all branches were suddenly to vanish.

Incedentally - I don't hate Americans though it could be said that I strongly dislike Americanisation and the culture of America.

I am British and I believe we are not much better.
