I need to get the 5 year police RED book renewal on 12 August this year. However I'm caught in Australia with difficulties to return to Thailand because of Covid 19:

    - Cannot, at the moment, get permission to leave Australia.

    - Thai PR book re-entry stamp expires 17 November 2020, already spoke to Thai embassy in Sydney they advised I might be allowed to join a Thai repat. flight but dates of the flights unknown and next one not for at least 60 days. Plus Sydney embassy said I need to apply for repat flight much closer to 17 November, not now. (There is of a course an extension of 12 months on the re-entry date.)

    - I mentioned to the Sydney embassy that my Thai police RED book needs the 5 year renewal on 12 August. Officer at embassy had no idea what I was talking about, neither did his boss, but was keen to listen and build his understanding. Boss did suggest that I get a family member in Chiang Mai to take copies of every document to the CM police station which handles this and seek advice. He also said that PR books etc., are immigration matters and must always be totally correct, whereas the police requirements probably have some flexibility because of the current situation.

Luckily the policeman who handles the RED books at CM police station is very pleasant and welcoming. Last time my Thai son came with me and the policeman privately said to my son, your father is getting old if he has health problems next time and difficult to get to the station they no need for him to come, just bring all the documents and new photo and the RED book and it can be renewed without difficulty.

The difficulty this year is that I will in Aust. because of Covid issues so my son will go to CM police station about 4 weeks before renewal date with copies of all the documents (but of course not the original RED book). The plan is for my son to ask the policeman to accept the copies of all the documents and new photo and also pay the fee (last time 800Baht) with a promise I will bring the original book to the station very quickly after I do return to Thailand.

    Hopefully the policeman will agree.

Please send your original Red Book along with recent photographs and an authority letter both in English and in Thai to your son. Incase writing Thai is an issue let you send few pages signed blank and send to your son so he can type in CM. Also send a copy of Red book, passport and House Resigtration Book and any other related document all pages signed by you. Your son carrying an authority letter should be able to do the needful with Police station.

  2. I have auto channel valid for 2 years. Now Reentry Permit is valid for only one year. I will get new Reentry visa and New Endorsement in the PR book next month. This will mean the data registered for Auto channel will be obsolete for the Reentry Visa number. What needs to be done? Should we ask update of Visa number at Suvarnabhumi or just keep using as it is till validity of Auto Channel comes to an end?

  3. I had auto channel set up at Suvarnabhumi. When I changed my passport the Immegration Officer registered me again for Auto Channel BUT didn't delete old Passport details in computer system. Now system doesn't allow me to use Auto Channel. Have worked with Suvarnabhumi Immegration officers (New Every time) to resolve. They sent letter twice to Computer Company which handles the data to reset my information in system. 6 months , no success. Did anyone experienced similar case? If so any advice or any idea who to approach and how to resolve this issue?

I am planning to send letter to the authorities about it. Any suggestions which place to send letter to?

Off topic a little, but registering and using autochannel at SVB is beneficial - no stamps in passport or blue book when using it, although it is always better to be safe in case it is not working.

I agree. Specially when we have been discussing the case where we lose PR overseas. In such a case we can just walk in Thailand through auto channel and then take care of the lost one.

  6. My Blue PR book has only 3 pages left and I am in upcountry area. I have checked with the local Immegration office and they say the new books are not available so go to Bangkok. I need following advice.

Will CW help issue new book even though my address is of upcountry? I guess this will be a White Book this time.

There are still 3 pages left in my present Blue book? Will the CW issue me new book? I wish to have a new book as I travel a lot and wish to avoid spending time and money after few months to issue new book? I will also have the reentry done.

I also have just been issued a new passport by my embassy. Is there any special instructions I need to follow?

I once lost my passport while being abroad. I had to get a fax from my company, confirming that I am employed, and then get a non-B at a Thai embassy. I also had to show them the police report about the lost passport. This way, my work permit was not lost and all was easy.

If losing the passport while having PR, maybe we should ask Chaeng Wattana now (in advance) what to do in that case. I will do that next time I have to renew the yearly re-entry permit (sorry, I mean endorsement and Non-Quota Immigrant Visa).

It might be a good idea to have understand the procedures in case PR is lost or stolen while within Thailand or Overseas both. Anyone has any info. in this regards please advice. I live upcountry and Immegration has no idea about it. Would someone help ask CW whenever someone visits there?

  8. Hello all PR holders.

I was told that now we can use the auto gates at the airport for all PR holders who have a valid passport with minimum 6 months and also who has completed 6 months from the date of issue of the blue book.

Make sure you have atleast 2.30 hours of time before your flight.

After immigration stamping go to the immigration box right after that and contact the officer and tell them you want to have the auto gate access.

He will ask you for your blue book and passport with the boarding pass.

He will give you a form to fill which needs a local thai contact with their Thai id and address with phone number. Once done you give this to the officer.

Sit down and relax he will do the necessary entries in the system.

Then he will ask you to sit infront of the camera and take your pictures

Then he will do the fingerprints and once thats through he will complete the process.

He will take you to the gate outside and ask you to put the passport in the scanner at the auto gate and you must use your index finger for scanning and look at the camera once it recognises gate opens and you are no more in the que waiting on your way in and out smile.png

Say Khopun krap and breeze in and out.

Cheers and a must do for all PR holders smile.png

I just did mine and its really cool.

Got mine done too. It is cool.

However what could be downsides if at all ?

Any thoughts ? Anyone Devil's advocate....

  9. I appeared for Interview today at BORA/DOPA. Morning first Q was for the Ladies following Thai Husbands and there were 8 in Total. Then there were about 20 persons following wives or PR based applications.

Interviews started about 10 AM in morning and by lunch almost 10 people were interviewed.

As for applied based on Thai wife questions were general..

    - Introduction of yourself.

    - What Job you do/ salary etc...

    - Why do you want to become Thai National?

    - After being in Thailand for 12 years why did you just applied for Nationality?

Interview lasted less than 10 minutes and no-one checked any documents (at least in my case).

Majority of the Candidates were either Chinese or Taiwanese in this batch.

I also noticed that one lady from SB came and interacted with almost all candidates and advised on what questions may be asked in Interview and how to answer them. Which was nice in a way , at least made people more comfortable.

    Good luck to ALL!

Congrats. to you. Did you apply based on PR or marriage to a thai?

    My wife is Thai.

  10. I just received information form SB that I have to appear for Interview for Nationality next week....(Took 4+ years). I am travelling at present so don't have time to go through the whole thread to beside about below questions. Hope to get advice on below....

    1. Do I need to Sing National Anthem? And King's Anthem? ( My wife is a Thai National )

    2. My wife will accompany me, Do I need to take my sons along? ( I have 2 sons and I live in Upcountry if needed then they will have to miss school)

    3. How long does the interview last?

    4. What sort of questions can I expect? (Besides Introducing myself).

    5. What documents do I need to carry with me?

    6. Any other advice..

Thank you and appreciate your few suggestions.

  11. I have a Blue Thabian Baan in Bangkok. I am moving to Countryside and will move the Tabian Baan to the new place. Could someone help advice me do I need to do anything with regards to the PR (Blue Book) and Police Book (Red Color)?

You can not move your blue tabien baan to a new house. New house means other tabien baan.

When I moved I took a copy of my old Tabien baan and showed this to the staff of the local amphur office and requested them to transfer me to the "new" tabien baan.

Your old amphur office can issue you a certified copy of your bkk tabien baan registration if you can not take original.

House master needs to be present and sign for you.

They may not have done this before for a PR so make sure you have a Thai speaker with you who knows this is correct and is confident to tell the local staff and if needed call old amphur office or CW PR section to confirm this is correct.

In my case the guy in charge refused to believe I should be on a blue book and would only put me on a yellow one. We had a friend at the interior ministery call him to explain things and he put me on the blue tabien baan.

Also you need to get your red police book updated. You need to go to your "old bkk" police station and tell them you intend to move and they will send the file they have on you to the police station up country near your new home or in my case allow me to take it there (not standard they said).

After this you need to go to the local upcountry police station and he will update your red book for you.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you and this helps a lot.

  12. Since neither all trees are cut nor most are intact and this applies to all 5 cases depicted in the cartoon. All are partially correct.....then we are leaving it to the interpretation of the reader to consider everything one way or another or somewhere in between (1%-99% take your pick)......

So is it a problem of the cartoonist ? How should a cartoon be drawn? Was the cartoon drawn in a particular context? Is it a problem of someone who simply shares it?

On the other hand if most of the society get offended then what to do? Are all of them wrong? should they keep quiet if they don't agree or speak out.....

    Just curious.......thoughts......

Arkady, just over a year ago my work permit was extended for two years. My company is neither BOI-promoted nor large. I do have PR, maybe that helped.

I found out about the new provision for the 2-year WP in the 2008 Act early on and applied for a 2-year renewal in Bangkok in 2009. When I applied the official told me I had a good chance because I had PR but in the end I was rejected on the grounds that my company was too small and not BOI promoted. Later that year I moved to a large public company and had the oopposite reaction when I applied for a new WP. The official who received the application told me I would be rejected and shoudn't bother but, in fact, I was approved. The official said she had overlooked the fact that I was employed by a Plc to cover his loss of face. (I also forced her to reluctantly return my old WP which she had tried to keep, pointing out the provision in the 2008 Act for foreign employees to keep the old ones for their records - later I needed it to show the MoI when I applied for citizenship). I subsequently got a 2-year renewal without any hassle.

I think attitudes at the Labour Ministry might have changed, as people have reported that officials in some labour offices have suggested they apply for 2-year WPs or renewals, even if they don't work for a large or BOI promoted co or a plc. I think it is certainly worth applying for the 2-year WP, if you think you will be in the job for 2 years. When I did the application myself, it required at extra page of application form. The fee is double but you don't get charged the additional amount, if they only give you the one year.

I am not sure if I am posting in wrong thread but would share experience about WP. I am having my own business for last 10 years which was BOI promoted in past and I got 2 year WP all the times. I got PR in 2012 and got WP for 2 years even though my company was no longer a BOI promoted company. It probably was mainly my staff knowing the Local Labour Department (North East) well and we having a very good track record and proper documentations throughout. Obviously it couldn't have happened without 2 year WP act which Arkady has mentioned.

Few days ago when we applied for renewal this time we were told this time WP will be renewed only for 1 year. As per local staff the reason is Instructions from New Boss in Office. He wants everyone to perform and will allow only 1 year extension/s. Well I fail to understand how does it relate to the performance and of whom? So I wonder there are still grey areas in ACT of 2 year WP which gives discretion to the Department heads?

So, let me get this straight.

You clicked on a topic in which you have no interest in order to proclaim to the world your lack of interest and insult those who do happen to be interested?

Talk about having too much time on one's hands.

"No" just curiouser as to why people think that a Thai passport is so important.

Well, I got PR after waiting for 6 years and have applied for Thai Nationality and few years have already passed. I want Thai Nationality since that falls in line with my Objectives (certainly never thought of owning land).

This Thread has been very helpful to me as PR Thread had been. People who intend to get Thai Citizenship value this thread and anyone is Welcome and make use of it. Members who started such threads and others who contributed have done a Great favour to others.

We respect your curiosity in the theme and hope everything is clear now to you and Thanks for your interest.

  15. I use water from the roadside machines that dispense water. I have done this in Phuket, Phang Nga, and Chiang Mai and have never had a problem in over 3 years. I have no inclination to drink tap water, altho I have no evidence one way or the other. My main problem with bottled water is the issue of solid waste: too many plastic bottles.

USA, UK , India are some of the countries I have drunk water straight from the Tap. I never had have any problem. I wonder if Thai govt. will clarify if it is safe to drink water straight from the Tap. I agree with many comments in thread that bottled water companies make tons of money citing safety. I wonder if there can be a push to govt. clarify this issue and have everyone given a choice to have safe tap water to drink. Will save environmental issues as well by reducing plastics from the bottled waters.

  16. Is it possible for a PR holder get a Reentry and Non Quota visa on Suvarnabhumi Airport?

Reason for asking this question is that just in case someone has to leave urgently and it is a holiday.

No, it's not possible. If you have to leave urgently and your re-entry and non-quota expire before you return to Thailand, your PR will be cancelled immediately in accordance with the 1979 Immigration Act. There is no appeal against this and no explanations are accepted because the law doesn't provide for any exceptions whatsoever.

If there is any chance at all you might have to leave Thailand in an emergency or that a trip overseas might be unexpectedly extended beyond your renewal dates, including unforeseen accident or illness, the sensible course of action is to renew early. I have just done this for peace of mind prior to leaving on a trip, just in case for whatever reason my return to Thailand is delayed, as there was only a small margin between my return date and the renewal date. Having PR cancelled like that to me is something I wouldn't want to contemplate. It happened to a friend who unexpectedly had to have life saving surgery while visiting in the UK.

I do keep re-entry and non-quota updated all the times. However I seldom go out of country so thought of saving pages in passport and PR book. But you never know of emergencies so was wondering if this can be done while exiting the country. Anyway thanks for clarification and got to agree with you to keep it ready all the times.
