Always sad when someone decides to take their own life. Hope the guy had time to regret the decision and was saved by the 12th floor. However, a man of that age probably knew what he wants to do and has seen what life has to offer him, as opposed to a spur of the moment broken-hearted teen suicide....I'm sure he will find a way to finish his business, if life really is that bad for him.

I used to live on this street before (Ratchada soi 17), but don't remember any building/hotel that would slope as such that one would not be able to free fall. Does anyone know which hotel this was?

Searching facebook for "Thomas Mahlendorf" shows his (possible) picture.

  2. Both nok air and air asia will bring you to Mukdahan from Ubon ratchatani.

And actually I was thinking that a letter from wife asking to grant you a visa was needed ?

But you said only wife ID and wife property book ?

What if she doesn't have ?

    Thanks.

Your wife must have an ID card and a house book registry. The house book does not have to be for a home of her own it can be a family members or even a friends that she is listed in.

Or a rented house will be accepted if nothing changed.

  3. No I do not work in Thailand, I make money oversea with a business located in the US.

I only transfer part of my salary every 2 weeks in Thailand.

I make about 80,000 baht monthly, and I am doing that for at least the 4 years I am in Thailand permanently.

Since you are working in Thailand you should be able to get a one-year extension of stay for the reason of employment. No need to get married for this.

So you work in Thailand for the business located in the US. You do this for the last 4 years without paying tax in Thailand.

What option he had? No work permit = no tax payer.

@nikkoid66, stay under the radar is my advice.

  4. for a non o year visa because of thai wife you dont need to go abroad at all.

just go to your immigration office and give the papers requiered as i do every year.

but for this you need to have 400 000 bath in a thai bank on your name only for at least 2 mounth minimum before applying that kind of visa otherwise forget it.

your wife as to go and sign all the document also, she will be asked many personal question, better all of you knows the answerd before

the rest is spending time in the office and bla bla....!

What kind of questions is my wife likely to be asked?

Some examples you/ your wife will be asked:

Are your wife's parents living or deceased?

Does your wife rent or own her place?

Where do you live, what part of ... do you live?

What date did you get married?

    When is your wife's birthday?

    How did you meet?

Does your wife work, where does she work?

  5. That is new info about same day service. Thanks for the info.

Has the consulate moved to their new office or are they still close to the river.

Ubonjoe, i think you are getting slow, because someone mentioned the same day service a couple of weeks back. Another applicant mentioned that it was just temporary, but this could just rumour, so i wouldn't go booking your return bus tickets. Consulate is still by the river as of yesterday. There have been many changes since i went last year, so i will follow with more details.

    Thanks for the infos.

  6. Hi, all.

    Just a few questions;

    1. What time do you have to be there to submit documents for the visa?

    2. Any recomendations of GOOD quality hotels close to the consulate?

    3. Can I easily get a ride directly from the border to the consulate, and what price should I expect to pay?

    4. Can I get by on only carrying THB?

    Thanks for the help.

Not really sure if the consulate open before 09:00 am, but closing time to submit your documents is 11:00 am (Mo-Fr, don't forget to check if there is a public holiday).

Good quality hotels in Savannakhet close to the consulate are rare and difficult to find. I stayed at the New Saen Sabai for 1,000 THB, a short 6 min walk from the consulate. This relative new hotel is not bad, the rooms are good but the breakfast/ wifi/ hotel staff was far away from good, not a problem at all because of staying only 1 night.

I did take a bus from Mukdahan Bus Station to Savannakhet Bus Station for 50 Baht. At the Laos Boarder you have to buy a Laos Visa for 1,500 THB, they also accept USD (not sure, 40 USD). Thai nationals get free entry. At Savannakhet Bus Station are TukTuks available, the price is around 40/50 THB to the consulate. The Laos people are very friendly and I enjoyed the short time there.

In Savannakhet you can pay with THB or USD and because of that there is no need to exchange in KIP.

  7. I did return today from Savannakhet. Did get a Non-Imm-O (Marriage) multi 1 year without any questions, easy and relaxed at all.

Didn't leave Thailand since 3 years, did make extensions in the past.

I did arrive 26.06 little bit late at 10:10 am at Savannakhet Consulate, no other customer only me showed up because of the late time. The consulate stuff checked my documents within 3 minutes, I was asked to pay 5,000 THB and they told me to come back the same day at 03:30 pm which was a surprise because I expected next day. I did receive my passport and visa at 03:30 pm and everything is fine.

AirAsia and the bus service from Nakon Phanom to Mukdahan worked fine.

Thanks to all for the info supported in this forum.

  8. How long does it take to get from the Thai consulate to the airport in Nakhon Pannom?

I'm thinking of getting a bus up over night and a flight home the following day but Air Asia fly out at 4:45 p.m. is that long enough to collect visa and make it to the airport?

Mukdahan to Nakhon Phanom 09:15 arrive 10:45 Coach DD110 Flight Nakhon Phanom to Don Mueang 11:45 arrive 12:55 Flight DD9515

by Nok Air different times but at least shows you how long it takes.. Yep I did this staying 2 nights

so you would need to add more time: Thai Consulate > border > Immigration both sides + over the bridge + get to Mukdahan to get the bus.

No idea what time the Air Asia Bus leaves, but guess you would miss it.

    Air asia June:

    14:00 departing Mukdahan (transfer bus)

    15:30 arriving Nakhon Phanom

    16:45 departing Nakhon Phanom

    17:50 arriving Don Mueang

Ah christ that is so frustrating I really don't fancy getting the bus back as it will mean 3 nights away from the family

    Correct.

Thats why I am going together with my wife.

  10. Thanks!

I agree with your mentioned "The best plan" but most probably I have to stick with Savannnakeht now, nevertheless I will think about the 60 day extension.

So there is no need to void my valid extension and I will go to Savannnakeht short before or at day X (or probably day X + 60 days if extension used).

  11. Your wife does not need to go with you. But she must sign and date the copies of her house book, ID card and a copy of your marriage certificate,

The consulate will be closed the 1st, 5th, 9th and 13th of May for holidays. They are closed on all weekends.

If you applied on the 2nd you would have to wait until the afternoon of the 6th to pick up your passport.

You could travel on the 5th and make your application early on the 6th.

Thanks, because I had the same question.

I stick one more because I am on extension of stay (based on marriage) still valid until day X.

I will not make my next yearly extension of stay procedure as usual at immigration in Thailand, instead of that I will apply for a new Non-O-Multiple Visa (Marriage) in Savannnakeht.

Do I have to void my current still valid extension of stay before going to Savannnakeht or is that not necessary?

What would be the best date to go, before, at (or after) date X?

What backup plan would be the best in case Savannahket change the rules?

  12. I was in a similar situation. Was on Extension of Stay for the purpose of education and wanted to change my extension of stay for marriage.

Applying for marriage extension the immigration needed a letter from my school stating the completion of my school studies. This letter plus the usual paperwork for marriage extension are the conditions for convert the extension from ED to Marriage. You don't need to apply for a new Non-O-Visa.

The mentioned letter from my school was only for immigration, but I did not stop studying at my school, thats no problem at all, speak with your school and check the procedere.

  13. Just did my retirement visa Ranong and no such information was asked for. I just give a copy of my yellow book.

I did try same, but my yellow book wasn't sufficient. By the way my house master wasn't happy signing the documents because he said if the "farang" does do anything wrong or has trouble with the police the house master is responsible for any cases "farang" caused and I have to inform him instantly. To be honest I love Thailand and feel really comfortable here, but the visa extensions togehter with the 90 day reporting procedure is annoying.
