Well, supporting a peaceful protest is nothing wrong. People have money they donate, people who are not so rich supported by cooking food to give the protestors to eat. Thats the way thai people show unity. Have u seen the elderly walking with a walking stick? One who is handicapped wheeled his way following the rally. So whats the problem with donating? Since the government is corrupted, why the thai cares?

Now we have the same situation as a couple of years ago when the Governor of TAT said it would aim at quality tourist that stays at the bigger resorts(which means that the country side that is very depending in new incomes especially now with the prices going up). Who gains the money from that??? Why not aim at a bigger market and make it easier for the backpacker to come(they are traveling all around the country and if not spending a lot but still ...)

Between Sukhumvit 5 and 7, just onthe left towards 7 is a very nice little place. Unfortunately the name esacapes** although I go there a lot, but others will know it because of the Philippino Girl singers, who are outstanding. You can watch the show whilst having a meal on a smallish balcony.

The Huntsman in the Landmark Hotel is rather good too, also with excellent live music and quite a generous two drinks for one the last time I was there.

The name is The 99 or Checkers 99 The philippino group that sings there have been there since 1999 at least. Used to go there with my parents and they still remember my name and from where I come!! Very nice athmosphere inside.

The reason why Thai Tourist Police dont want to issue a WP for only volunteer work is that there are people that have been violating the rules before.

Regarding WP you are allowed to add workplace into your current WP.

Michael, What protocol do the Thai PD use in their background check? In my country a background check by a foreign country would raise flags on my name, knowing how the government computers work. Why are they checking this persons background?

Does the TPD give work permits?

Does the TPD give us uniforms ? What do they look like ?

What is a "small amount of time" an hour a day , week or month ?

What kind of Visa ?

Regarding The Tourist Police giving work permit Bangkok Tourist Police is a volunteer work and therfor you need to have a WP already

Uniforms : We will try to get a sponsor for this and for other necessary eqipments that you need.

Small amount of time : at least a couple of hours a week divided in half a day or a full day. Foreign Tourist Police Force should meet at least once a week.

The Royal Thai Tourist Police is not increasing it's staff by recuting Foreign officers. You will be helping by patroling together with a Thai officer and this is a volonteer work. The office now in bad need of foreing volonteers is the Thonburi Tourist Police office. If you want to work at other area feel free to contact me and I will forward your application to the right area.

This is a way to help bridge the language barrier between foreign tourists and Thai people and I think it could be a good way to help the tourism to come back and feeling more secure. Please If you can speak Thai and at least one other language contact me for application. The training will probebly be held during the end of this month or beginning of next! As soon as we have enough applicants we can hold the training session.

The legal team has only had 13 years to get it sorted so to rewrite the patchwork now is a bit hard to swallow? It was good enough to obtain an extradition in North America but the legal team here has to 'adjust'. Be as shame to get it thrown out on a technicality - or maybe that's what the purchasing power is all about. Stands to reason - jails here don't have wheel chair access either so house arrest in luxury is well on the cards if it does proceed. He certainly made a lot of locals wealthy by his actions so time he called up a few favours! Interesting to say the least.

My thoughts entirely. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this end in an acquittal like the American boiler room operator who was eventually acquitted of masterminding the murder of his former busness partner, even though the Thai prosecutors managed to present strong enough evidence for a US court to extradite one of their own citizens on a capital charge to a third world country, something I doubt the US does lightly. Saxena has plenty of cash to pay people of off and hire decent lawyers. His Thai wife's family have connections (it was his father-in-law who introduced him to the gang of 16) and the prosecutors have to prove embezzlement by some one who was not an officer of the bank which is far harder than the malfeasance charges they got Kirrkiat on which were very clear cut. Even the latter is still walking free after being sentenced to 100 years in prison. Finally there are a lot of influential people who would like to see Saxena either dead or let off the hook and off abroad again without bringing any one else down. He probably couldn't stay in Thailand, even if he were acquitted.
