A Lao woman and her Thai sister-in-law were arrested on Monday night while trying to smuggle 1,995 methamphetamine pills across the Mekong River into Nakhon Phanom.

After her arrest, Kaewta Pimpila, 33, told police that she decided to earn money as a drug courier for a Lao drug boss after her husband was jailed on a drug conviction, leaving her to take care of their two children on her own.

The other suspect was identified as Piyong Khaipara, 53.

The two were stopped at a road checkpoint on Ban Siew Songkram-Ban Haad Paeng road in Tambon Haad Paeng in Nakhon Phanom's Si Songkram district.

Kaewta said she was given Bt10,000 to take the drug to a location on a road in Si Songkram district to be picked up by a buyer.

Let me get this straight. Her husband was thrown in prison for being a drug dealer and she figured the best way to take care of her kids was to start dealing drugs.

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
