How To Revert Back From Windows Media Player 10 To Version 9 ?

I recently installed Windows Media Player 11 and didn't like it. I removed it via Add/Remove Programs. Then I got the prompts to register for Media Player 10, which I don't like either. Add/Remove Programs did not specifically list Media Player 10 as an option to remove but there was an option to remove something like 'Windows Media Streaming', which I did.

So I tried System Restore and chose 2 different points before I had installed WMP 11 ... but (both times) got the error message "Your system cannot be restored to the selected point" So that's not working either. I have Windows xp, 2006 installation. Has System Restore become corrupted? Any way to restore functionality via the rescue disk which came with the Toshiba laptop?

So how can I get back to WMP 9, which is the latest version still having the sliding scroll bar which I like? Thanks very much.

I read on a microsoft website that WMP 9 is not available anymore for Windows Xp. You could try to have a look at website specialised in old versions of various softwares.

Or you could get Media Player Classic, it's a free media player for windows which looks like WMP 6.4, but has all the functionalities you can need.

Edit: changed the link to the latest version.

Thanks. There is a WMP 9 for xp here http://www.download.com/Windows-Media-Play...4-10180881.html

But how do I remove the existing WMP 10, which hasn't been configured yet? PC refuses to delete the WMP 10 folder in program files, and no listing under add/remove programs either! Is it safe to delete the individual files in the WMP 10 folder, even though some may stubbornly remain? The fresh WMP 9 download refuses to over-write WMP 10.

Any idea why Windows scrapped the useful clear sliding scroll bar in WMP 10 & 11 ?

I don't understand which feature the OP has lost in MP 11 and 10? Can someone clarify? Everything I want is there but may have moved around a little.

Before you uninstall MP10 have a look through the view menu and make sure that the tool or view that you want is not there

MP11 is a good media manager as well as player. It took a while to get used to the changes, bbut I like it now.

The official MS page to download previous and current versions of Media Player is here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...ldownloads.aspx

I've found on a french website:

If you have SP2 installed WMP 10 is not visible in the Remove/Add programs window.

In the Remove/Add programs you have to activate the "Show updates" button and then you'll be able to delete WMP 10.

You will then be back to WMP9.

Supprimer WMP 9 et 10
