Govt performs poorly during 9 months in office: survey

The government has failed the tests in overall and other performances, including social and economic works, an opinion survey has found.

Bangkok University released the results of its opinion survey Sunday, which showed the public saw that the government performed badly during the nine months in office.

The survey was carried out among 2,062 people from provinces around the country.

The government got an average score of 4.02 out of 10 for is overall performance.

It got 4.39 score for social performance, 4.17 score for economic performance, and 4.15 for foreign affairs.

Bangkok Poll: Govt gets 4.02 points for its 9 months´ operation

BANGKOK, 4 October 2009 (NNT) – Thai people give 4.02 out of 10 points for their satisfaction in the 9 months operation of the current coalition government led by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, according to the Bangkok University Research Institute (Bangkok Poll).

Based on 2,062 respondents nationwide, the management of the government in the social category received 4.39 points while the scores for the government in terms of economic and foreign categories are at 4.17 and 4.15 respectively.

As for the government’s top three policies, 17.9% of respondents show their preference in 15 years free education and educational fund projects of the Ministry of Education. 6.9% support Thai tourism and sports promotions projects of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. However, only 6.8% are satisfied in the influenza A(H1N1) preventive measures adopted by the Ministry of Public Health.

It would be helpful if there was a historical comparison. Not questioning the poll or methodology as I think BU is a respectable institution and its polls are more reliable than those from ABAC. However, if the results were known for periods of rule prior to the last military coup one would be able to draw a better conclusion. i.e. Government is perceived as being better or worse than previous governments. It's all relative.
