ironbridge
Hi there, I bought a Japanese import Subaru Impreza last year for 600,000. So far I have put 200,000 into it in the form of engine modifications. My insurance has come in for renewal and the company will only offer 350,000 if the car is stolen! Not impressed by this as they know the car cost 600,000 last year. The company is Bangkok Insurance. When questioned about this they tried to tell me that they are the only company in Thailand that can insure imported cars. They then proceeded to tell me that they 'had 2 lamborghinis on their books' - funny as I'm sure there are more than two in Thailand. Just wanted to know if anyone on here has an imported car and what insurance company they use. Thanks, Tim. ThaivisaInsurance
This does sound strange if you have the vehicle registered here in Thailand. May we suggest you go HERE ,complete the on-line form and we shall go out to the insurance companies to see what we can do to help you. tonydabbs
If you had the vehicle imported into Thailand the 600,000 baht probably included the cost of Import Duty. Insurance companies won't insure that cost. Also, Insurance companies don't like to insure imported cars because replacement parts are too difficult and costly to obtain. Yes, there are other insurers that will insure your vehicle. But, the insurance will cost you more than if you had purchased a vehicle sold locally
