Pak Chong Accom ?

Hi,

Doing a little road trip from Surat up to Chaiyaphum next week.

Plan to spend 1st night in Pran Buri, then wing it up past Bangkok in the general direction of Pak Chong !!

Does anyone have any good calls for accommodation in that area, nothing flash but a nice location would be great. I have checked prices and it seems around the 500-800 baht can get a reasonably comfortable place.

We don't have too much time to sight see but also would like recommendations for good eating stops en route to Chaiyaphum.

Many thanks,

Cornish

Try to keep going a bit more to Korat then you have many options, google them to see price range.

I have been to Pak Chong, only once, in the day time, seemed like an ok agricultural based town with a noticable farang presence in my view.

Safe travels.

There is a very nice hotel at the side of Mitraparp called Kao Yai Lamtakong - for about B1,000. Nice location next to river and out door decking. Very easy for your journey.

There is a nice apartment block in Pak Chong (again B1,000) called The Mansion (http://www.mansionpakchong.com/site/), clean, tidy and quiet but no views.

There is a better place Suanmuangporn http://www.suanmuangporn.com/ by Lamtakorn resevoir with breathtaking views but it will be more money.

There's many places in Korat as 55Jay says but you'll lose time getting in and out of town and if your going to Chaiyapum you need to turn off before Korat :-)

Finally, there's a lovely restaurant in Sikhio (as you turn off to Chaiyapum) called Duan Yee http://www.duanyee.com/ and they have rooms too.

Enjoy your trip.

I had to spend a weekend in Pak Chong a couple of years ago. There is a decent (but certainly not flash) hotel right on the main road (Mittraphap Road) near where the bus from Bangkok drops people off - in the center of the town. The hotel is set back a bit from the main road and I only happened to see it when my bus was passing by. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the place, but it was cheap at about 500-ish baht per night as I recall. Just get yourself to the main road in the center of the town and have a look around. You should be able to find it.

Nearby, on the other side of the main road, there is a nice food market in the evenings - with some of the best grilled chicken and brown sticky rice I've ever eaten. (Or perhaps I was just particularly hungry at the time!)

And finally, in the area around the railroad station nearby, there is a nice, quaint little old town district that is worth a wander for a half an hour.
