Late night rain and runoff water from the Nakkerd Hills caused flooding along a large section of Chao Fa West Rd.

PHUKET: -- Heavy rain and runoff water coming from the Nakkerd Hills flooded some Phuket roads early this morning (Sep24).

Late night downpours combined with the runoff from the Nakkerd Hills caused flooding on Chao Fa West Rd near Homepro Village in Chalong at 4am with waters in some areas being reported at about 10 inches high.

Chalong police were dispatched to help direct traffic and place safety cones in the more hazardous area where potential accidents could have occurred. Vehicles were able to pass slowly, but some motorbikes were left stranded for about an hour.

“Several hours of rain and excess water from the hill slowly drained into the sea this morning,” the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation told The Phuket News. “There were no other reports of flooding on the island,” they added.

According to the Thai Meteorology Department, West Coast Southern provinces including Phuket are expected to see widespread heavy rainfall in several areas early next week; however, it is unlikely that flood or landslide warnings will be issued.
